Book The Theory of Subsonic Plane Flow

Download or read book The Theory of Subsonic Plane Flow written by L. C. Woods and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1961 book presents a concise and systematic treatment of two-dimensional subsonic, inviscid fluid motion and its aeronautical applications. Part I surveys the relevant fluid dynamics, assuming only a basic knowledge of the topic. In Part II, the methods of conformal mapping and Cauchy integrals are developed, on the assumption that the reader has only an elementary understanding of complex variable theory; this will be of interest to a wide range of applied mathematicians and engineers. In Part III, the methods are applied to several problems in fluid mechanics and aero dynamics. The text provides an extensive account of mixed boundary-value problems and treats such examples of these problems as occur in ventilated wind-tunnel theory, jet-flap theory and unsteady Hemholtz motions.

Book Second order Slender body Theory

Download or read book Second order Slender body Theory written by Milton Van Dyke and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slender-body theory for subsonic and supersonic flow past bodies of revolution is extended to a second approximation. Methods are developed for handling the difficulties that arise at round ends. Comparison is made with experiment and with other theories for several simple shapes.

Book Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow written by Elie Carafoli and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Division II: Aerodynamics, Volume 7: Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow examines the cases of isolated simple wings, wings with vertical plane tail, cruciform wings, and simple or cruciform wings fitted with a body. This book presents the method for the actual calculation of isolated wings or of more complex system. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the basic equations in the mechanics of inviscid fluids. This text then presents a unified theory that is established for angularly shaped wings in supersonic flow. Other chapters consider the method for calculating the characteristics of drag, lift, and moments for various shapes of the trailing edge line. This book discusses as well the wings of ordinary shapes, delta wings, yawed wings, polygonal wings, trapezoid wings, and arrow-head or swept-back wings. The final chapter deals with a delta wing with a central fusiform body. This book is a valuable resource for teachers, students, and specialists engaged in modern aerodynamics.

Book Second order Subsonic Airfoil section Theory and Its Practical Application

Download or read book Second order Subsonic Airfoil section Theory and Its Practical Application written by Milton D. Van Dyke and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several recent advances in plane subsonic flow theory are combined into a unified second-order theory for airfoils of arbitrary shape. The solution is reached in three steps: The incompressible result is found by integration, it is converted into the corresponding subsonic compressible result by means of the second-order compressibility rule, and it is rendered uniformly valid near stagnation points by further simple rules. Solutions for a number of airfoils are given and are compared with the results of other theories and of experiment. A straightforward computing scheme is outlined for calculating the pressures on any airfoil at any angle of attack.
