Book The Women Peace and Security Agenda

Download or read book The Women Peace and Security Agenda written by Laura J. Shepherd and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-26 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda is comprised of the policies, protocols and practices enacted by a wide range of actors inspired by, or under the auspices, of the UN Security Council resolutions adopted under the title of ‘women and peace and security’. Since the adoption of the first resolution in 2000, resolution 1325, there have been nine others, each of which elaborates or extends aspects of the original resolution. This book provides a forward-looking collection of scholarship on the WPS agenda in two halves. The first half of the book presents a series of essays that each provide a glimpse of the rich and insightful research on WPS being undertaken in and about different contexts, to demonstrate the importance of centring the "local" as a site of knowledge production in the WPS agenda. The essays presented in the second half of the book also engage questions of knowledge production, documenting the exploratory methods in use in WPS scholarship, and highlighting those topics engaged at the hinterlands of what is a broad field – topics that gesture at the future of research in this area. The chapters in this book were originally published as special issues of the International Feminist Journal of Politics.

Book Sociology and the Public Agenda

Download or read book Sociology and the Public Agenda written by William Julius Wilson and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 1993-03-02 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in Cooperation with the American Sociological Society Sociology has had a long and convoluted relationship with the public policy community. While the field has historically considered its mission one of effecting social change, in recent decades this has become only a minor part of the sociological agenda. The editor of this volume, MacArthur Fellow and former ASA President William Julius Wilson, asserts that sociology′s ostrich-like stance threatens to leave the discipline in a position of irrelevance to the world at large and compromises the support of policymakers, funders, media, and the public. Wilson′s vision is of a sociology attuned to the public agenda, influencing public policy through both short and long-range analysis from a sociological perspective. Using a variety of policy issues, perspectives, methods, and cases, the distinguished contributors to this volume both demonstrate and emphasize Wilson′s ideas. Undergraduates, graduate students, professionals, and academics in sociology, political science, policy studies, and human services will find this argument for sociology′s civic duty to be both compelling and refreshing. "The eighteen chapters on issues ranging from cultural and historical definitions of citizenship to American welfare policies and American corporate mergers are strong examples of solid social research, where authors draw out policy implications and, based on their research, make policy proposals. . . . Sociology and the Public Agenda is an insightful book for scholars of social policy, and also those interested in research design issues. The book is very relevant for political scientists engaged in policy research, interested in innovative research designs, and wondering about the ′place′ of the social scientist in setting public agendas." -Policy Currents

Book The Truth Agenda

Download or read book The Truth Agenda written by Andy Thomas and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2014-12-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Truth Agenda explores some of the most famous unexplained mysteries and global cover-ups of recent history. What is the truth about UFOs, pyramids, religious apparitions, psychic phenomena, visions of the future and ancient prophecies, and what is their connection to famous conspiracy theories concerning the Moon landings, 9/11, the New World Order, and claims that the planet is secretly run by a powerful ruling elite? Leading mysteries researcher Andy Thomas pulls the many threads together in an accessible, stimulating and credible overview which suggests that our world may be very different from the picture presented by the establishment. The Truth Agenda shows how we can avoid control manipulations and help to create a more positive future. Why do so many people believe in conspiracy theories, and what is the evidence to support them? What is the basis for the wide belief that we are now in a ‘New Era’ of massive change and consciousness shift? Why is there such huge but officially undeclared interest in paranormal phenomena from authorities and religions? How does all this tie together and explain the agendas of control and surveillance in the West, and what can we do?

Book Mexico and the Post 2015 Development Agenda

Download or read book Mexico and the Post 2015 Development Agenda written by Rebecka Villanueva Ulfgard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-03 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interdisciplinary edited collection presents original analysis on Mexico's transition from the Millennium to the Sustainable Development Goals, departing from three main perspectives. In what areas did Mexico gain leverage and actually contribute to the debate around the proposed SDGs? What are the challenges for Mexico with regard to the SDGs? How to handle the issue of congruence/dissonance in Mexico's accomplishment of the MDGs in relation to the socioeconomic realities on the ground? The contributing authors examine what kind of state is needed to strengthen democratic politics and social justice, but also to improve the economic effectiveness of the state and thereby prospects for development. For Mexico, what is missing is a clear vision for creating a progressive, truly modern society where the notion of a social contract between the government and citizens could be established along the lines of a welfare state that is inclusive, sustainable, and transformative enough to tackle seriously the fundamental socioeconomic injustices dividing Mexicans.
