Book Sparks Adventures in Street Photography

Download or read book Sparks Adventures in Street Photography written by Stephen Leslie and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2018-08-23 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'To put it simply, this book is fun. It’s also funny, deep, at times disturbing, at other times profoundly hopeful. But every image gets remade in ways that hold a bit of genius' Lens Culture 'Funny, tragic and often bizarre, Stephen Leslie’s photos in his book Sparks are an unique ode to street photography' Guardian A family is brought close to ruin by a pet python; an Icelandic advertising agency has a problem with a campaign involving a dead seagull; a chiropodist desperately wants to stop examining people’s feet and dreams of becoming a pirate... Stephen Leslie has always tried to capture images that hint at wider, hidden narratives – suggestive moments rather than decisive ones – and Sparks is a book that imagines the weird and wonderful stories behind his original street photographs. It is a love-letter to photography, pairing eighty beautiful colour images – shot on film – with these stories, as well as the author’s recollections of twenty years spent looking through the lens.

Vibrant colors and a profound nostalgia echo throughout Eggleston’s breathtaking oeuvre. His motifs of signage, cars, and roadside scenes create an iconography of American vistas that inspired a generation of photographers. Book Randy

Download or read book Randy written by Robin de Puy and published by Hannibal. This book was released on 2018-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2015 portrait photographer Robin de Puy (1986) travels across America on a motorcycle. During this trip, an intimate portrait emerges in text and image of both herself as of the persons portrayed. In Ely, Nevada she found Randy. He rode past - fast - but in the split second she saw him she knew: De Puy had to know who this boy was. She took his portrait, left the town a few days later, and that was it - at least, that's what it seemed at the time. Back in Amsterdam Randy popped into her mind from time to time - it was impossible to know this boy and leave it at that single image. She looked him up again at the end of 2016, and then again in February 2017, and once more in May 2017. She turns him inside out, looks at him, stares at him and he lets her. In the Bonnefantenmuseum, Robin de Puy is presenting this portrait of Randy in the form of an installation that comprises photos and film. Exhibition: Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht, The Netherlands (26.01. - 13.05.2018).

Book Criticizing Photographs

Download or read book Criticizing Photographs written by Terry Barrett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasizing the understanding of images and their influences on how they affect our attitudes, beliefs, and actions, this fully updated sixth edition offers consequential ways of looking at images from the perspectives of photographers, critics, theoreticians, historians, curators, and editors. It invites informed conversations about meanings and implications of images, providing multiple and sometimes conflicting answers to questions such as: What are photographs? Should they be called art? Are they ethical? What are their implications for self, society, and the world? From showing how critics verbalize what they see in images and how they persuade us to see similarly, to dealing with what different photographs might mean, the book posits that some interpretations are better than others and explains how to deliberate among competing interpretations. It looks at how the worth of photographs is judged aesthetically and socially, offering samples and practical considerations for both studio critiques for artists and professional criticism for public audiences. This book is a clear and accessible guide for students of art history, photography and criticism, as well as anyone interested in carefully looking at and talking about photographs and their effects on the world in which we live.

Book Richard Renaldi Figure and Ground Signed Edition

Download or read book Richard Renaldi Figure and Ground Signed Edition written by and published by Aperture Direct. This book was released on 2006-10 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though he works with an omnivorous 8x10 camera, Richard Renaldi has the roving eye of a street photographer, always searching for the brief encounter, the fleeting moment when a stranger will open his or her life to him, and, consequently, to the viewer. Richard Renaldi's "Figure and Ground," drawn from more than seven years of work, presents portraits, landscapes and, most importantly, the portraits in situ that meld those two classic photographic genres, in which he embraces not only individuals but the environment that encompasses them. These images were made across the United States, and take in not only those who might seem traditionally American-a blonde carrying a Louis Vuitton bag through a Greyhound terminal, or a rodeo cowboy, arms akimbo, standing determinedly against an all-dirt horizon-but also a woman in a burqa and Timberland boots on a faded Newark street and a transgender girl working a fast-food counter under the sad-glamorous glow of fluorescent lighting. If there is truly a center to the changing American social landscape, it can be found here, in these precisely rendered portraits.
