Book Introduction to Command Control and Communications C3 Through Comparative Case Analysis

Download or read book Introduction to Command Control and Communications C3 Through Comparative Case Analysis written by Scott A. Berg and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis contains material for the course, Introduction to Command, Control and Communications (C3). The first part of the thesis describes selected principles and concepts of C3 related to communication management, interoperability, command structure and standardization. The Crisis Action System is described emphasizing the roles and functions of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. A discussion of decision making in command and control examines the principles of unity of command, echelon skipping and span of control. Finally, the Joint Task Force (JTF) apparatus is reviewed from the perspective of interoperability. The second part of the thesis contains four case studies designed to provide an understanding of command and control by developing a competence to diagnose and solve command and control situations. The solutions to the cases require applying the principles and concepts presented in the first part. The four cases are: (1) the Iran hostage rescue attempt; (2) the invasion of Grenada; (3) the raid on Libya; and (4) the rescue of the S.S. Mayaquez. (RH).

Book Advances in Command Control Communication Systems

Download or read book Advances in Command Control Communication Systems written by Christopher John Harris and published by IET. This book was released on 1987 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes some of the developments in Command, Control and Communication (C3) systems. The topics cover the design of large real-time man-machine systems, which are now a vital area of intensive scientific and financial investment. C3 systems are for complex resource management and planning, and although this has a predominantly military connotation, similar systems are now developing in civil sector applications, public utilities and banking. Topics discussed include the design and structure of C3 systems, databases, standards, the man-machine interface, and advanced processing, including the sensor data fusion and artificial intelligence. It is the multifaceted nature of C3 that this book seeks to capture. The subject is too vast to survey comprehensively but this text offers the reader an important insight into this critically important aspect of modern technology.

Book Principles of Military Communications for C3I Command Control Communications and Intelligence

Download or read book Principles of Military Communications for C3I Command Control Communications and Intelligence written by Dale E. Fincke and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper attempts to develop a coherent group of previously uncodified basic concepts, military communications principles, to provide qualitative theoretical linkage in support of the tenets of U.S. AirLand Battle Doctrine. Further, the proposed communications principles are neither technology dependent nor combat operations inhibiting, but should govern the development and implementation of communications in support of command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I) at the tactical and operational levels of war. TO ensure requisite C3I communications, basic concepts must be both rigorous and clear. The five (5) operational principles presented in this paper -- continunity, homogeneity, versatility, security and simplicity -- present a starting point for the development of military communication theory in support of current operational doctrine, and are supported by historical antecedents. Along with each operational principle the supporting subordinate elements and their associated qualitative criterion are developed and presented. Finally, a chapter on implications for system design describes a conceptual military communications system found on the principles developed and discussed in this paper. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Navy is ready to execute the Nation's tasks at sea, from prompt and sustained combat operations to every-day forward-presence, diplomacy and relief efforts. We operate worldwide, in space, cyberspace, and throughout the maritime domain. The United States is and will remain a maritime nation, and our security and prosperity are inextricably linked to our ability to operate naval forces on, under and above the seas and oceans of the world. To that end, the Navy executes programs that enable our Sailors, Marines, civilians, and forces to meet existing and emerging challenges at sea with confidence. Six priorities guide today's planning, programming, and budgeting decisions: (1) maintain a credible, modern, and survivable sea based strategic deterrent; (2) sustain forward presence, distributed globally in places that matter; (3) develop the capability and capacity to win decisively; (4) focus on critical afloat and ashore readiness to ensure the Navy is adequately funded and ready; (5) enhance the Navy's asymmetric capabilities in the physical domains as well as in cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum; and (6) sustain a relevant industrial base, particularly in shipbuilding.

Book Human Factors for Naval Marine Vehicle Design and Operation

Download or read book Human Factors for Naval Marine Vehicle Design and Operation written by Jonathan M. Ross and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a driving need for naval professionals to focus on human factors issues. The number of maritime accidents is increasing and the chief cause is human error, both by the designer and the operator. Decreasing crew size, lack of experienced operators, operations in higher sea states and fatigue worsen the situation. Automation can be a partial solution, but flawed automated systems actually contribute to accidents at sea. Up to now, there has been no overarching resource available to naval marine vehicle designers and human factors professionals which bridges the gap between the human and the machine in this context. Designers understand the marine vehicle; human factors professionals understand how a particular environment affects people. Yet neither has a practical understanding of the other's field, and thus communicating requirements and solutions is difficult. This book integrates knowledge from numerous sources as well as the advice of a panel of eight recognized experts in the fields of related research, development and operation. The result is a reference that bridges the communications gap, and stands to help enhance the design and operation of all naval marine vehicles.
