Download or read book Monkey Du Siblings written by Richard Symes and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monkey Du is based on a set of monkeys that learned how to act like humans and started imitating the behaviors and the history of humans. The story takes place at a time when the monkeys are in school, mostly doing pranks, getting into trouble, and messing with their siblings. These guys were an experiment in an animal-research laboratory that got canceled by the government in 1989. Over the years, Ms. Khrain had started a little secret community, and the monkeys had developed a family system among themselves. One particular family was special to scientist Ms. Khrain, so she called them Monkey Du. They were called Monkey Du because they kept trying to imitate the humans on TV more than the rest. They were also the first group to do everything upright on two feet, and they even spoke like humans. Then the rest of monkeys started following them. Thereafter, they were like little hairy humans (talking, walking, dressing, and acting the same) but with different personalities. The book is to teach kids lessons that other people have learned along the way, to inspire them, to show them how to love, and perhaps to remind ourselves as adults what it was like when we were kids. Download or read book Kasey to the Rescue written by Ellen Rogers and published by Hyperion. This book was released on 2010-11-02 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story of how miracles DO happen. How courage and a never-give-up spirit can emerge victorious. How an engaging little monkey helped change a family's life. Ellen Rogers considered herself something of a tragedy snob. The single mother of five believed she could weather any storm, that she could keep her family from harm with fortitude and grace. But nothing could have prepared her for the June 2005 car accident that left her son, Ned--then 22 years old--fighting for his life. Ellen refused to give in to despair. We'll get through this, she told herself. We have to. But love and determination can only go so far, and the road home was fraught with obstacles. Ellen and Ned took comfort in family and friends. And they prayed for a miracle. Miracles happen to those who believe, the saying goes, but who would have believed that one family's "miracle" would weigh in at five pounds sopping wet? Then Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled provided Ned with an affectionate and intelligent service animal with a steadfast devotion to hierarchy, a longing for "spa days," and a craving for Gummi Bears. In other words, a diva. Life with Kasey was yet another challenge for this large and lively family, but they persevered as families do, and in time this wise and sensitive animal did more than help Ned cope with his disabilities--she turned the simple tasks of life into a life worth living. Kasey's astonishing intelligence and compassion brought hope and laughter back to a family facing its greatest challenge, and helped them see the world in a new way.
Download or read book Mister Monkey written by Francine Prose and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2016-10-18 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Tender and artful . . . a gently spiritual celebration of life.” —New York Times Book Review Acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Francine Prose weaves an ingenious, darkly humorous, and brilliantly observant story that follows the exploits and intrigue of a constellation of characters affiliated with an off-off-off-off Broadway children’s musical Mister Monkey—a screwball children’s musical about a playfully larcenous pet chimpanzee—is the kind of family favorite that survives far past its prime. Margot, who plays the chimp’s lawyer, knows the production is dreadful and bemoans the failure of her acting career. She’s settled into the drudgery of playing a humiliating part—until the day she receives a mysterious letter from an anonymous admirer . . . and later, in the middle of a performance, has a shocking encounter with Adam, the twelve-year-old who plays the title role. Francine Prose’s effervescent comedy is told from the viewpoints of wildly unreliable, seemingly disparate characters whose lives become deeply connected as the madcap narrative unfolds. There is Adam, whose looming adolescence informs his interpretation of his role; Edward, a young audience member who is candidly unimpressed with the play; Ray, the author of the novel on which the musical is based, who witnesses one of the most awkward first dates in literature; and even the eponymous Mister Monkey, the Monkey God himself. With her trademark wit and verve, Prose delves into humanity’s most profound mysteries: art, ambition, childhood, aging, and love. Startling and captivating, Mister Monkey is a breathtaking novel from a writer at the height of her craft.

The book should be of considerable interest to students of social evolution and behavioral ecology.
Download or read book Choosing Family written by Francesca T. Royster and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brilliant literary memoir of chosen family and chosen heritage, told against the backdrop of Chicago’s North and South Sides As a multiracial household in Chicago’s North Side community of Rogers Park, race is at the core of Francesca T. Royster and her family's world, influencing everyday acts of parenting and the conception of what family truly means. Like Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts, this lyrical and affecting memoir focuses on a unit of three: the author; her wife Annie, who's white; and Cecilia, the Black daughter they adopt as a couple in their forties and fifties. Choosing Family chronicles this journey to motherhood while examining the messiness and complexity of adoption and parenthood from a Black, queer, and feminist perspective. Royster also explores her memories of the matriarchs of her childhood and the homes these women created in Chicago’s South Side—itself a dynamic character in the memoir—where “family” was fluid, inclusive, and not necessarily defined by marriage or other socially recognized contracts. Calling upon the work of some of her favorite queer thinkers, including José Esteban Muñoz and Audre Lorde, Royster interweaves her experiences and memories with queer and gender theory to argue that many Black families, certainly her own, have historically had a “queer” attitude toward family: configurations that sit outside the white normative experience and are the richer for their flexibility and generosity of spirit. A powerful, genre-bending memoir of family, identity, and acceptance, Choosing Family, ultimately, is about joy—about claiming the joy that society did not intend to assign to you, or to those like you.
