Download or read book Palabra de primera dama Michelle Obama written by Mónica Pérez de las Heras and published by Editorial Almuzara. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Learn Spanish News Vol 2 written by Nik Marcel and published by 2Language Books. This book was released on with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LEARN SPANISH NEWS Vol.2: English & Spanish THIS EDITION: The dual-language text has been arranged into sentences and shorter paragraphs for quick and easy cross-referencing. The source text is the Spanish language edition of Voice of America (VOA). The Spanish text has been translated into English for this dual-language project. The reader can choose between four formats: Section 1: English to Spanish Section 2: Spanish to English Section 3: English Section 4: Spanish A methodology for getting the most out of this bilingual format is explained in the book’s Foreword. The primary purpose of this text is to equip a foreign language learner with the ability to start reading news in the particular foreign language: to be able to read only in the foreign language, and extract enough understanding to continue the language learning process fruitfully this way. A reader might like to go back to reading dual-language news for reinforcement and further development, returning to foreign language only news with a deeper understanding. By going back to the same ‘old’ news, you are going over words, word patterns, and passages with which you already have a certain familiarity. The process of reinforcement, learning or retaining of what is new, and exposure to what is unfamiliar, is much easier this way — even though the news may seem a little dated. The aim of informing the reader about actual news is secondary, especially given that the content will become less current (and less relevant) over time. If you are having trouble with the level of difficulty in the text, a suggested path for learning languages is as follows: Familiarise yourself with a basic language instruction book — or re-read the one you have. Once a student has studied the basics, a suitable book about basic grammar can be helpful. The suggestion is that any grammar book be studied more with the intent of recognition and understanding, rather than memorising and obsessive rote learning. Go through as much of the grammar book you feel you can digest — maybe even the whole book — skipping over what is not easily understood. After this, read through a portion of text in a book called ‘Spanish Sentences’, by 2LanguageBooks, looking for examples of what you have picked up (or gleaned) in your hopefully not so arduous study of grammar. Even repeatedly seeing a word that you remember seeing listed as a ‘subject pronoun’ or a ‘third person plural’ verb of some sort is a great help. Then, depending on your inclination, return to the grammar book (or your basic Spanish book), or move on to lengthier bilingual text — like in 2Language Books texts containing news or stories, for example —, or find some suitable Spanish text: a simple novel, a Spanish news website, etc. Grammar books will likely have some verb charts. However, there are currently good on-line resources that go further — dictionaries with a verb conjugation ‘search’ option. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. However, if audio is an important component of your interest in languages, electronic devices that support quality text-to-speech (TTS) will likely be appealing. With a library card, TTS technology (in a device that supports the relevant content), and the above mentioned resources, an entire language learning system is available for not much more than a cup of coffee! There is no substantial financial outlay to get you started. Furthermore, there are no additional ongoing fees (and updates), and there are no expiry dates on ‘premium’ content and resources. Download or read book El Ascenso de Marco Rubio written by Manuel Roig-Franzia and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in a Spanish-language edition: the definitive biography of Senator Marco Rubio, the youngest Speaker of the Florida Statehouse and the biggest rising star in the Republican Party. Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been called the “crown prince” of the Tea Party movement and “the Michael Jordan of Republican politics.” Some might think that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but no one—not even his rivals in the Democratic Party—disagrees with the fact that Marco Rubio is going far in American politics. Manuel Roig-Franzia delivers the story of how Rubio came up so fast and why. It’s a classic American odyssey: his parents left Cuba for a better economic life in Miami a few years before Castro came to power; his father worked as a bartender, his mother as a maid and then stock clerk at Kmart. When the cocaine cowboys were terrorizing south Florida, Rubio’s family moved to Vegas, where his father worked in a gambling hall. When they moved back to south Florida, the small but tough Rubio made the football team, became an expert on the Miami Dolphins, and raced to begin a political career minutes after graduating from law school. By the time he was sworn in as speaker of the Florida House of Representatives in 2000, he was the youngest person and the first Hispanic to hold that position. Mike Huckabee likes to say: “He is our Barack Obama with substance.” Marco describes all facets of this policy wonk married to a former Dolphins cheerleader with whom he has four children. Rubio has the endurance, smarts and charisma to be a presence on the American political scene for years to come. This is a book his fans, and critics, must read.
Download or read book Masculine Virtue in Early Modern Spain written by Professor Shifra Armon and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2015-04-28 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masculine Virtue in Early Modern Spain extricates the history of masculinity in early modern Spain from the narrative of Spain’s fall from imperial power after 1640. This book culls genres as diverse as emblem books, poetry, drama, courtesy treatises and prose fiction, to restore the inception of courtiership at the Spanish Hapsburg court to the history of masculinity. Refuting the current conception that Spain’s political decline precipitated a ‘crisis of masculinity’, Masculine Virtue maps changes in figurations of normative masculine conduct from 1500 to 1700. As Spain assumed the role of Europe’s first modern centralized empire, codes of masculine conduct changed to meet the demands of global rule. Viewed chronologically, Shifra Armon shows Spanish conduct literature to reveal three axes of transformation. The ideal subject (gendered male in both practice and law) became progressively more adaptable to changing circumstances, more intensely involved in currying his own public image, and more desirous of achieving renown. By bringing recent advances in gender theory to bear on normative rather than non-normative masculinities of early modern Spain, Armon is able to foreground the emergence of energizing new models of masculine virtue that continue to resonate today.
Download or read book Faces of Courage written by and published by Parlor Press LLC. This book was released on 2021-03-15 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As America begins dialing back the Trump-era restrictions that all but eliminated asylum for immigrants fleeing violence and seeking protection in the US, this volume of fifty powerful images, with captions in English and Spanish, documents the interfaith grassroots movement that never gave up on the Statue of Liberty’s poetic pledge to welcome the world’s “huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.” Faces of Courage: Ten years of Building Sanctuary chronicles the first ten years of the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia, a coalition of twenty-eight congregations, which builds community across religious, ethnic, and class lines to end injustices against all immigrants, documented or otherwise. The book follows New Sanctuary supporters as they demand policy changes with sit-ins at City Hall, consciousness-raising marches, and protests outside the Philadelphia field office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It goes behind the scenes into the churches where families facing deportation took refuge. It provides a visual record of New Sanctuary’s campaign for driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, and its “accompaniment” program to support immigrants at their court hearings. A Foreword by former Philadelphia Inquirer immigration writer Michael Matza and Afterword by Honduran-born, West Kensington Ministry Pastor Adan Mairena provide historical context in English and Spanish.
Download or read book The Crisis of Christian Nationalism written by Allen K. Shin and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An urgent call for awareness of the dangers of Christian nationalism, including the origins and implications. In 2022, Bishop Curry charged the House of Bishops Theology Committee to study Christian nationalism, an issue that has increasingly come to the forefront of conversations surrounding Christianity, democracy and white supremacy. The committee’s methodology in an Anglican framework of scripture, tradition, reason, and liturgy sheds light on the foundation of the movement and a path forward. They argue that it is sinful and violates the first and second of the Ten Commandments. Through careful examination of Christian Nationalism, the Theology Committee warns members of the church not to fall into its trap, but instead to be a light to the world.

Download or read book Decolonizing Theology in Revolution written by Ary Fernández-Albán and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on decolonial perspective, this book provides a critical retrieval of Sergio Arce’s theological thought, and proposes it as a source of inspiration to continue renewing liberation theologies in Cuba and in Latin America. In light of current social contexts in Cuba and abroad, this volume examines the relevance of Arce’s theological legacy, identifying significant contributions and also key limitations. It presents a panoramic view of the historical contexts previous to Arce’s articulation of his theology, and also reconstructs the various stages of the development of his theology by reviewing his major writings from the early 1960s to the late 1990s. Bringing Arce into a conversation with other recognized Latin American liberation theologians, this book delivers a reconstruction of his major theological insights related to discourses and practices of liberation, highlighting important similarities and differences between their approaches.
