Book Cook Inlet Beluga Whale and Prey Study

Download or read book Cook Inlet Beluga Whale and Prey Study written by Alaska Energy Authority and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this study is to provide relevant information on Cook Inlet beluga whales and prey species ecology in the Susitna River and delta with respect to potential changes in the lower river habitat that may result due to construction and operation of the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric Project. Prey species information for eulachon will be gathered as a part of this study while information for salmon will be coordinated with other fish studies ongoing and proposed for the lower river. The study area (as described in later documents) includes the upper portion of the Cook Inlet, the Susitna River delta, and the river up to river mile 50.

Book Effects of Anthropogenic Noise on Animals

Download or read book Effects of Anthropogenic Noise on Animals written by Hans Slabbekoorn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several years, many investigators interested in the effects of man-made sounds on animals have come to realize that there is much to gain from studying the broader literature on hearing sound and the effects of sound as well as data from the effects on humans. It has also become clear that knowledge of the effects of sound on one group of animals (e.g., birds or frogs) can guide studies on other groups (e.g., marine mammals or fishes) and that a review of all such studies together would be very useful to get a better understanding of the general principles and underlying cochlear and cognitive mechanisms that explain damage, disturbance, and deterrence across taxa. The purpose of this volume, then, is to provide a comprehensive review of the effects of man-made sounds on animals, with the goal of fulfilling two major needs. First, it was thought to be important to bring together data on sound and bioacoustics that have implications across all taxa (including humans) so that such information is generally available to the community of scholars interested in the effects of sound. This is done in Chaps. 2-5. Second, in Chaps. 6-10, the volume brings together what is known about the effects of sound on diverse vertebrate taxa so that investigators with interests in specific groups can learn from the data and experimental approaches from other species. Put another way, having an overview of the similarities and discrepancies among various animal groups and insight into the “how and why” will benefit the overall conceptual understanding, applications in society, and all future research.

Book Taking of the Cook Inlet Alaska Beluga Whale Stock by Alaska Natives Us National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Regulation Noaa 2018 Edition

This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Law Library presents the complete text of the Taking of the Cook Inlet, Alaska Beluga Whale Stock by Alaska Natives (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Regulation) (NOAA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 NMFS issues final regulations establishing long-term limits on the maximum number of Cook Inlet beluga whales that may be taken by Alaska Natives for subsistence and handicraft purposes. These regulations were developed after proceedings and public comment connected to an on-the-record rule-making and hearings before Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) Parlen L. McKenna (Judge McKenna); consultations with the parties to the hearings, including Alaska Native Organizations; and comments received from the public on the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale Subsistence Harvest Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). These regulations are intended to conserve and manage Cook Inlet belugas under applicable provisions of the Marine Mammal Protection Act ( MMPA) until the whales are no longer depleted under the MMPA. This ebook contains: - The complete text of the Taking of the Cook Inlet, Alaska Beluga Whale Stock by Alaska Natives (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Regulation) (NOAA) (2018 Edition) - A dynamic table of content linking to each section - A table of contents in introduction presenting a general overview of the structure

This includes the Eastern Bering Sea where some the worlds most important commercial fishing takes place. Their mission is to develop and maintain scientific exploration to help understand and manage that region's environment. Over the years there have been many reports published which discuss their findings; this is one of them.

Book Recovery Plan for the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale Delphinapterus Leucas

Download or read book Recovery Plan for the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale Delphinapterus Leucas written by United States. National Marine Fisheries Service. Alaska Regional Office. Protected Resources Division and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The goal of this recovery plan is to guide efforts that achieve the recovery of CI belugas to a level sufficient to warrant their removal from the federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants under the ESA (i.e., delist) by meeting the recovery criteria and addressing threats. The intermediate goal is to guide efforts that result in reclassification of CI belugas from endangered to threatened (i.e., downlist). The determinations regarding whether these goals are met include consideration of the population's risk of extinction and threats as identified under the ESA section 4(a)(1) factors. If a species is determined to be recovered, then the protections afforded by the ESA no longer apply, although other pertinent federal (e.g., MMPA) and state protections will still apply."--PDF page xiv-xv.
