Book Vehicle Gearbox Noise and Vibration

Download or read book Vehicle Gearbox Noise and Vibration written by Jiri Tuma and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-02-20 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in methods of gear design and the possibility of predicting the sound pressure level and life time of gearboxes and perfect instrumentation of test stands allows for the production of a new generation of quiet transmission units. Current literature on gearbox noise and vibration is usually focused on a particular problem such as gearbox design without a detailed description of measurement methods for noise and vibration testing. Vehicle Gearbox Noise and Vibration: Measurement, Signal Analysis, Signal Processing and Noise Reduction Measures addresses this need and comprehensively covers the sources of noise and vibration in gearboxes and describes various methods of signal processing. It also covers gearing design, precision manufacturing, measuring the gear train transmission error, noise test on testing stands and also during vehicle pass-by tests. The analysis tools for gearbox inspection are based on the frequency and time domain methods, including envelope and average toothmesh analysis. To keep the radiated noise under control, the effect of load, the gear contact ratio and the tooth surface modification on noise and vibration are illustrated by measurement examples giving an idea how to reduce transmission noise. Key features: Covers methods of processing noise and vibration signals Takes a practical approach to the subject and includes a case study covering how to successfully reduce transmission noise Describes the procedure for the measurement and calculation of the angular vibrations of gears during rotation Considers various signal processing methods including order analysis, synchronous averaging, Vold-Kalman order tracking filtration and measuring the angular vibration Vehicle Gearbox Noise and Vibration: Measurement, Signal Analysis, Signal Processing and Noise Reduction Measures is a comprehensive reference for designers of gearing systems and test engineers in the automotive industry and is also a useful source of information for graduate students in automotive and noise engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-20th Century, automatic transmissions have benefited drivers by automatically changing gear ratios, freeing the driver from having to shift gears manually. The automatic transmission's primary job is to allow the engine to operate in its speed range while providing a wide range of output (vehicle) speeds automatically. The transmission uses gears to make more effective use of the engine's torque and to keep the engine operating at an appropriate speed. For nearly half a century, Design Practices: Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions has been the “go-to” handbook of design considerations for automatic transmission industry engineers of all levels of experience. This latest 4th edition represents a major overhaul from the prior edition and is arguably the most significant update in its long history. In summary, the authors have put together the most definitive handbook for automatic transmission design practices available today. Virtually all existing chapters have been updated and improved with the latest state-of-the-art information and many have been significantly expanded with more detail and design consideration updates; most notably for torque converters and start devices, gears/splines/chains, bearings, wet friction, one-way clutch, pumps, seals and gaskets, and controls. All new chapters have also been added, including state-of-the-art information on: • Lubrication • Transmission fluids • Filtration • Contamination control Finally, details about the latest transmission technologies—including dual clutch and continuously variable transmissions—have been added.

  • Pages : 691 pages

Download or read book Gears written by Vincenzo Vullo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the geometric and kinematic design of the various types of gears most commonly used in practical applications, also considering the problems concerning their cutting processes. The cylindrical spur and helical gears are first considered, determining their main geometric quantities in the light of interference and undercut problems, as well as the related kinematic parameters. Particular attention is paid to the profile shift of these types of gears either generated by rack-type cutter or by pinion-rack cutter. Among other things, profile-shifted toothing allows to obtain teeth shapes capable of greater strength and more balanced specific sliding, as well as to reduce the number of teeth below the minimum one to avoid the operating interference or undercut. These very important aspects of geometric-kinematic design of cylindrical spur and helical gears are then generalized and extended to the other examined types of gears most commonly used in practical applications, such as straight bevel gears; crossed helical gears; worm gears; spiral bevel and hypoid gears. Finally, ordinary gear trains, planetary gear trains and face gear drives are discussed. This is the most advanced reference guide to the state of the art in gear engineering. Topics are addressed from a theoretical standpoint, but in such a way as not to lose sight of the physical phenomena that characterize the various types of gears which are examined. The analytical and numerical solutions are formulated so as to be of interest not only to academics, but also to designers who deal with actual engineering problems concerning the gears

Book Comparison of Experimental and Analytical Tooth Bending Stress of Aerospace Spiral Bevel Gears

Download or read book Comparison of Experimental and Analytical Tooth Bending Stress of Aerospace Spiral Bevel Gears written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study to investigate the bending stress in aerospace-quality spiral bevel gears was performed. Tests were conducted in the NASA Lewis Spiral Bevel Gear Test Facility. Multiple teeth on the spiral bevel pinion were instrumented with strain gages and tests were conducted from static (slow roll) to 14400 RPM at power levels to 540kW (720 hp). Effects of changing speed and load on the bending stress were measured. Experimental results are compared to those found by three-dimensional finite element analysis.
