The topics discussed include black holes as solutions of superstrings, string-membrane duality, QCD and strings, and nonperturbative strings.

Book Einstein Relatively Simple Our Universe Revealed In Everyday Language

Download or read book Einstein Relatively Simple Our Universe Revealed In Everyday Language written by Ira Mark Egdall and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-01-06 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Outstanding Academic Title for 2014' by CHOICEEinstein Relatively Simple brings together for the first time an exceptionally clear explanation of both special and general relativity. It is for people who always wanted to understand Einstein's ideas but never thought they could.Told with humor, enthusiasm, and rare clarity, this entertaining book reveals how a former high school drop-out revolutionized our understanding of space and time. From E=mc2 and everyday time travel to black holes and the big bang, Einstein Relatively Simple takes us all, regardless of our scientific backgrounds, on a mind-boggling journey through the depths of Einstein's universe. Along the way, we track Einstein through the perils and triumphs of his life — follow his thinking, his logic, and his insights — and chronicle the audacity, imagination, and sheer genius of the man recognized as the greatest scientist of the modern era.In Part I on special relativity we learn how time slows and space shrinks with motion, and how mass and energy are equivalent. Part II on general relativity reveals a cosmos where black holes trap light and stop time, where wormholes form gravitational time machines, where space itself is continually expanding, and where some 13.7 billion years ago our universe was born in the ultimate cosmic event — the Big Bang.

Book Physical Origins of Time Asymmetry

Download or read book Physical Origins of Time Asymmetry written by J. J. Halliwell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-03-21 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We say that the processes going on in the world about us are asymmetric in time or display an arrow of time. Yet this manifest fact of our experience is particularly difficult to explain in terms of the fundamental laws of physics. This volume reconciles these profoundly conflicting facts.

Book Wormholes Warp Drives and Energy Conditions

Download or read book Wormholes Warp Drives and Energy Conditions written by Francisco S. N. Lobo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Top researchers in the field of gravitation present the state-of-the-art topics outlined in this book, ranging from the stability of rotating wormholes solutions supported by ghost scalar fields, modified gravity applied to wormholes, the study of novel semi-classical and nonlinear energy conditions, to the applications of quantum effects and the superluminal version of the warp drive in modified spacetime. Based on Einstein's field equations, this cutting-edge research area explores the more far-fetched theoretical outcomes of General Relativity and relates them to quantum field theory. This includes quantum energy inequalities, flux energy conditions, and wormhole curvature, and sheds light on not just the theoretical physics but also on the possible applications to warp drives and time travel. This book extensively explores the physical properties and characteristics of these 'exotic spacetimes,' describing in detail the general relativistic geometries that generate closed timelike curves.

  • Pages : 454 pages

Download or read book Lorentzian Wormholes written by Matt Visser and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 1995 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on pivotal work by Einstein, Wheeler, Thorne, Hawking, and others, Matt Visser charts the development and current state of Lorentzian wormhole physics. Dr. Visser shows that by pushing established physical theories to their limits, it is possible to deduce the true physics of such exotica as wormholes and time travel. The physical framework he uses is derived from one of the major research frontiers of modern theoretical physics: quantum gravity the intersection of classical Einstein gravity and quantum field theory. About the Author Matt Visser is Research Assistant Professor at Washington University, St. Louis. He has lectured in the United States and abroad on topics including wormhole physics, time travel, and the chronology protection conjecture. He has conducted postdoctoral research at both the University of Southern California and at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Book Quantum Cosmology The Supersymmetric Perspective Vol 1

Download or read book Quantum Cosmology The Supersymmetric Perspective Vol 1 written by Paulo Vargas Moniz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-07-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We read in order to know we are not alone, I once heard, and perhaps it could also be suggested that we write in order not to be alone, to endorse, to promote continuity. The idea for this book took about ten years to materialize, and it is the author’s hope that its content will constitute the beginning of further explorations beyond current horizons. More speci cally, this book appeals to the reader to engage upon and persevere with a journey, moving through the less well explored territories in the evolution of the very early universe, and pushing towards new landscapes. P- haps, during or after consulting this book, this attitude and this willingness will be embraced by someone, somewhere, and this person will go on to enrich our quantum cosmological description of the early universe, by means of a clearer supersymm- ric perspective. It is to these creative and inquisitive ‘young minds’ that the book is addressed. The reader will not therefore nd in this book all the answers to all the problems regarding a supersymmetric and quantum description of the early universe, and this remark is substantiated in the book by a list of unresolved and challenging problems, itself incomplete.

Book Topological Geometrodynamics

Download or read book Topological Geometrodynamics written by Matti Pitkanen and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 1235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological geometrodynamics (TGD) is a modification of the theory of general relativity inspired by the problems related to the definition of inertial and gravitational energies in the earlier hypotheses. TGD is also a generalization of super string models. TGD brings forth an elegant theoretical projection of reality and builds upon the work by renowned scientists (Wheeler, Feynman, Penrose, Einstein, Josephson to name a few). In TGD, Physical space-time planes are visualized as four-dimensional surfaces in a certain 8-dimensional space (H). The choice of H is fixed by symmetries of standard model and leads to a geometric mapping of known classical fields and elementary particle numbers. TGD differs from Einstein’s geometrodynamics in the way space-time planes or ‘sheets’ are lumped together. Extending the theory based on fusing number concepts implies a further generalisation of the space-time concept allowing the identification of space-time correlates of cognition and intentionality. Additionally, zero energy ontology forces an extension of quantum measurement theory to a theory of consciousness and a hierarchy of phases is identified. Dark matter is thus predicted with far reaching implications for the understanding of consciousness and living systems. Therefore, it sets a solid foundation for modeling our universe in geometric terms. Topological Geometrodynamics: An Overview explains basic and advanced concepts about TGD. The book covers introductory information and classical TGD concepts before delving into twistor-space theory, particle physics, infinite-dimensional spinor geometry, generalized number theory, Planck constants, and the applications of TGD theory in research. The book is a valuable guide to TDG theory for researchers and advanced graduates in theoretical physics and cosmology.
