This book was released on 1993-08-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past few years we have seen remarkable, and at times independent advances in the understanding of extended objects like strings, black holes and membranes at the 'microscopic' level. This volume primarily focuses on the synthesis of many diverse ideas in the physics of extended objects. The topics discussed include black holes as solutions of superstrings, string-membrane duality, QCD and strings, and nonperturbative strings.

Book Particles Strings And Cosmology Proceedings Of The John Hopkins Workshop On Current Problems In Particle Theory 19 And The Pascos Interdisciplinary Symposium 5

Download or read book Particles Strings And Cosmology Proceedings Of The John Hopkins Workshop On Current Problems In Particle Theory 19 And The Pascos Interdisciplinary Symposium 5 written by Domokos Gabor and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-07-13 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written primarily for researchers and graduate students who are new in this emerging field, this book develops the necessary tools so that readers can follow the latest advances in this subject. Readers are first guided to examine the basic informations on nucleon-nucleon collisions and the use of the nucleus as an arena to study the interaction of one nucleon with another. A good survey of the relation between nucleon-nucleon and nucleus-nucleus collisions provides the proper comparison to study phenomena involving the more exotic quark-gluon plasma. Properties of the quark-gluon plasma and signatures for its detection are discussed to aid future searches and exploration for this exotic matter. Recent experimental findings are summarised.

Book Modeling Black Hole Evaporation

Download or read book Modeling Black Hole Evaporation written by Jose Navarro-salas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-01-24 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this book is two-fold: the first part gives a fully detailed and pedagogical presentation of the Hawking effect and its physical implications, and the second discusses the backreaction problem, especially in connection with exactly solvable semiclassical models that describe analytically the black hole evaporation process. The book aims to establish a link between the general relativistic viewpoint on black hole evaporation and the new CFT-type approaches to the subject. The detailed discussion on backreaction effects is also extremely valuable./a

Book Directions in General Relativity Volume 2

Download or read book Directions in General Relativity Volume 2 written by B. L. Hu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-07-22 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two volumes are the proceedings of a major International Symposium on General Relativity held at the University of Maryland in March 1993 to celebrate the sixtieth birthdays of Professor Charles Misner and Professor Dieter Brill. The volumes cover classical general relativity, quantum gravity and quantum cosmology, canonical formulation and the initial value problem, topology and geometry of spacetime and fields, mathematical and physical cosmology, and black hole physics and astrophysics. As invited articles, the papers in these volumes have an aim which goes beyond that of a standard conference proceedings. Not only do the authors discuss the most recent research results in their fields, but many also provide historical perspectives on how the subjects have developed and offer individual insights in their search for new directions.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sabine Lee

  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 9814329886
  • Pages : 502 pages

Download or read book From Nuclei to Stars written by Sabine Lee and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2011 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In one way or another, Gerry Brown has been concerned with questions about the universe, about its vast expanse as well as about its most miniscule fundamental constituents of matter throughout his entire life. In his endeavours to understand the universe in many manifestations from nuclei all the way to the stars, he has been influenced by some of the most prominent physicists of the 20th century, and he himself, in turn, has influenced a great many scholars. This volume, a collection of articles dedicated to Gerry on his 85th birthday, contains discussions of many of the issues which have attracted his interest over the years. The contributions are written by his former students, co-authors, colleagues and admirers and they are strongly influenced by Gerry''s own scientific tastes. With this compilation we want to express our respect, admiration and gratitude; we want to celebrate Gerry''s scientific and scholarly achievements, the inspirational quality of his teaching and the enthusiasm which he himself displayed in his research and which stimulated so many of his students and colleagues over the decades.

Book Jacob Bekenstein The Conservative Revolutionary

Download or read book Jacob Bekenstein The Conservative Revolutionary written by Brink Lars and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2019-09-12 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacob Bekenstein, an Israeli physicist of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, planted the seeds of a revolution of our understanding of space-time. Using conservative intuitive methods including time-old gedanken experiments, he discovered that black holes have thermodynamical properties such as entropy. Moreover, he found that their entropy was not extensive, unlike that of any other thermodynamical system considered before, but rather is proportional to the surface of their horizon. Furthermore, Bekenstein pioneered the study of black holes by focusing on their information content aspects. This led him to obtain bounds of a holographic nature on the amount of information that can be stored in a given region of space-time.This book contains a series of scientific and personal contributions by his contemporaries who recall the struggle against his ideas and then with them: the fate accompanying many revolutionary ideas. This is followed by original scientific contributions by many of the leaders of current research on black hole physics and holography. They have trodden his path and expanded it. The impact of Jacob Bekenstein's visionary ideas is just starting to be understood.

Book Artificial Intelligence for Scientific Discoveries

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence for Scientific Discoveries written by Raban Iten and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will research soon be done by artificial intelligence, thereby making human researchers superfluous? This book explains modern approaches to discovering physical concepts with machine learning and elucidates their strengths and limitations. The automation of the creation of experimental setups and physical models, as well as model testing are discussed. The focus of the book is the automation of an important step of the model creation, namely finding a minimal number of natural parameters that contain sufficient information to make predictions about the considered system. The basic idea of this approach is to employ a deep learning architecture, SciNet, to model a simplified version of a physicist's reasoning process. SciNet finds the relevant physical parameters, like the mass of a particle, from experimental data and makes predictions based on the parameters found. The author demonstrates how to extract conceptual information from such parameters, e.g., Copernicus' conclusion that the solar system is heliocentric.
