Book Wood Harvesting with Hand Tools

Download or read book Wood Harvesting with Hand Tools written by International Labour Office and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many developing countries wood harvesting with hand tools continues on a large scale. With the shift of emphasis towards trees grown by rural people rather than forestry enterprises, it will gain in importance in the years to come. This training manual provides basic information on efficient and safe equipment and methods for manual wood harvesting. At the same time, the information helps to ensure the fullest utilization of the available wood raw material. The manual updates previous ILO publications on the same subject, while taking into account progress and new developments observed in recent years. It is richly illustrated to make it easily accessible and will be ideal for forestry training and rural extension work. "This small book is a well-illustrated guide ..... simple to read, the diagrams are clear and are well described in the text ..... an excellent book dealing simply and in sufficient detail with a subject where current methods of operation often leave much to be desired."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from High School Manual Training Course in Woodwork: Including Cost of Equipment and Supplies and Studies on Trees and Wood Two styles of double benches are shown (fig. Thirty-six benches of the first style have been in use for several years at the R. T. Crane School - the English High and Manual - and have given perfect satisfaction. The cost was each, including two Tole's Vises. The tops are glued up of alternate strips of hard maple and cherry, or hard maple and walnut, and each is supplied with a Tole's vise and a tail-screw vise on each side. The cupboard door swings on L shaped pivots, in the center, at the ends, and when open displays the gen eral tools conveniently in sight, and still back in the cupboard far enough to prevent striking the knees. Three deep, slender pockets, to the right of the door, hold the three saws. There is room back of the door for two plane stocks, the bench brush, and the bench hook. The three drawers are roomy and deep, as deep as the width of the base of the bench. In the second style of bench a sliding door covers the cupboard for the general tools. This style of bench has somewhat more drawer room, since the loss in depth, taken off for the cupboard, is more than made up by gain in width. Three deep pockets, between the drawers and cup boards - as in the other bench - serve to hold the saws. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Manual Training for Common Schools

Download or read book Manual Training for Common Schools written by Eldreth G. Allen and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual Training for Common Schools: An Organized Course in Wood-Working In preparing this book on "Manual Training" the author has attempted to be thorough rather than complete. No attempt has been made to add anything new to the subject-matter, but only to arrange well-known facts so that they will offer as systematic and complete a course of study as is offered in any of the older organized courses. The arrangement of the text as herein presented is the direct result of five years' teaching the subject of wood-working to beginning classes. This class work was preceded by a number of years of shop work as a journeyman machinist and a factory foreman, as well as by a four years' college course in science and engineering. Help in preparing the text has been gleaned from so many fields that it would be impossible to make direct mention of all who have given valuable assistance. The author wishes, however, to acknowledge the aid given by Mr. Charles E. Emmerich, principal of the Indianapolis Manual Training High School, and Mr. Paul W. Covert, head of the manual training department, who have allowed such freedom in the conduct of classes that it has been possible to make all parts of the work measure up to a class-room test. Acknowledgment is due Mr. Otto Stark, head of the art department of the Indianapolis Manual Training High School, for his earnest and careful criticism of the models, drawings, and photographs. This criticism has added much to the value of the text. The final drawings from which the cuts were executed were made by Mr. Edward Stark, of Indianapolis.
