He explains what it feels like to have HIV/AIDS and how it has shaped all facets of his life: physically, emotionally and spiritually. AIDS can result from the immune system being attacked by the HIV virus. The most prevalent HIV-causing virus, which causes AIDS, can be transmitted by coming into contact with blood, semen, or vaginal fluids. HIV symptoms can range from minor to severe flu-like symptoms, decreased appetite, weight loss, and night sweats, and they might take months or years to manifest. HIV can weaken the immune system and cause AIDS if untreated. HIV cannot be cured, but there are medications that can help individuals manage the virus and live longer. There is no vaccine to prevent HIV, but PrEP, a preventative vaccination, has been licensed to stop HIV infection in those with a high risk of contracting the disease. PrEP is a daily tablet that helps people who are at high risk for HIV infection lower their risk of contracting the virus by up to 99%.
