Book United Nations Industrial Development Organization

Download or read book United Nations Industrial Development Organization written by Stephen Browne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-06-25 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mandate of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is close to many of the core issues now confronting developing and transition economy countries, and this book offers the first concise and accessible guide to this important organization. As the only UN organization to have been transformed from a UN secretariat entity to an independently governed UN agency, UNIDO has also an agency which has had to make drastic changes of focus and business practice in order to adjust to a changing environment. This book charts the complex origins and developments of the organization, and moves on to examine the current mandate of the agency, including trade capacity building, poverty reduction and Green Industry Initiative. It also examines the significant partnerships it has formed with other UN based systems such as UNCTAD and the ITC to achieve these goals. In the era of rapid globalization, UNIDO faces growing challenges. In the second part of this work, Browne seeks to review these challenges, and UNIDO’s recent reforms under its current management, and looks suggest how the organization can help to meet some of the key global development challenges in the increasingly competitive environment of development cooperation and private sector initiative. This work will be a useful resource for all those with an interest in international organizations, international relations, development and trade, and international political economy.

Book Industrial Development Report 2020

Download or read book Industrial Development Report 2020 written by United Nations and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emergence and diffusion of advanced digital production (ADP) technologies clustered around the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) is radically altering the nature of manufacturing production, increasingly blurring the boundaries between physical and digital production systems. The significant requirements of ADP technologies are opening questions on whether industrialization is still a feasible or even a desirable strategy to achieve economic development. This publication contributes to this debate by presenting fresh analytical and empirical evidence on the future of industrialization in the context of a technological paradigm shift. According to the report, it is by engaging with industrialization that countries can build and strengthen the skills and capabilities needed to compete and succeed within the new technological paradigm.

Book International Environmental Policy

Download or read book International Environmental Policy written by Lynton Keith Caldwell and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this newly revised and expanded edition of the award-winning International Environmental Policy, Lynton Keith Caldwell updates his comprehensive survey of the global international movement for protection of the environment. Serving as a history of international cooperation on environmental issues, this book focuses primarily on the development of international agreements and institutional arrangements--both governmental and nongovernmental--along with the impact of science, technology, trade, and communication on environmental policy. With implications for multinational commerce, population policy, agriculture, energy issues, biological and cultural diversity, transnational equity, ideology, and education, this book takes a broad view of the policy outcomes of what may be the most important social movement of the 20th century, and addresses the events and politics that have significantly affected the movement over the last twenty years and will continue to affect it into the next century.

Book Management of International Institutions and NGOs

Download or read book Management of International Institutions and NGOs written by Eduardo Missoni and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Management of International Institutions and NGOs covers all key topics in global governance from a unique management perspective. It analyzes the management challenges associated with international cooperation rather than the more commonly explored political or economic lenses. This text is structured to enable students to connect theory with practice, beginning with the main management frameworks developed in the context of corporate and national public/nonprofit organizations and adapting them to the specificity of international institutions and international non-governmental organizations. This leads to the identification of a “tailored” approach to international organization management based on their institutional and operational settings, stakeholder groups, core business, staff profiles, and financial arrangements. The authors then connect this theory with practice by linking frameworks to several case studies and best practices of organizations currently experimenting with management systems and tools, with case studies including the World Bank and the Gates Foundation. This edition has been extensively revised and updated, with an expanded conceptual framework inclusive of systemic theories of organization, new cases throughout, and new chapters on leadership, supply chain and operations, and human-centered digitization. This comprehensive textbook is a must-own resource for students and academics involved with studying and working with international organizations.

Book Informalisation as a Strength Community Survival Systems and Economic Development in the African City

Download or read book Informalisation as a Strength Community Survival Systems and Economic Development in the African City written by Frank Meintjies and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2008-03-27 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation is concerned with resources for economic development in cities in Africa. It argues for the greater understanding of the dynamics, practices and cultures within popular neighbourhoods and for recognising the creativity within them as a critical resource. Such an appeal is apt in a context where informal initiative has been suppressed, neglected and its potential wider influence curtailed. This paper takes the view that the popular neighbourhood is not just a place of needs, nor are its resources important only for addressing its own pressing issues; rather, it can be a major contributor to economic development in cities of Africa. This argument draws on concepts and findings from two research initiatives on a Lusaka settlement which delved into community resourcefulness, during a time of consolidation and at a time of serious economic stress. The main proposition is that economic strategy formulation in African cities needs to be based on a good grasp of the constraints and creativity of popular neighbourhoods and the survival strategies they spawn.
