Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his riveting new book, Majid Mohammadi, an Iranian sociologist and political analyst renowned for his publications on Iranian affairs, deconstructs the complicated office structure of the Iranian supreme leader. His seminal publication provides readers with in-depth insights into Khamenei’s office, its internal workings, decision-making processes, the cornerstone of its power, and much more. It explores the hidden world of the Leader’s office, demonstrating its complete monopolization over decision-making, bringing to light the powerbrokers that lie in the shadows. This unique publication is a must-read to understand Iranian politics and goes beyond the existing literature on Iran by exploring the opaque world of the Leader’s office, shedding light on its extensive operations and its management of day-to-day Iranian affairs. The eight-chapter book reveals the functions of the Leader’s office by providing an in-depth account of its tasks ranging from handling Khamenei’s meetings to international outreach and managing oil contracts; how the office operates with a look at the strategies and tactics regularly employed such as cronyism, secrecy, and fiefdom; the organizational system of the office is studied, highlighting the different approaches adopted including the mafia and politburo systems. In addition to this, the structure of the office and its top leadership are rigorously analyzed; the management model of the Leader’s office and its legal status in the Iranian Constitution are also examined; finally, the manner in which the Leader’s authority is channeled and how the institutions under the Leader’s office operate are scrutinized. This publication provides detailed insights and uncovers a juggernaut which many people are unaware of, particularly its size, the extent and nature of its operations, calling into question the actual role and purpose of Iran’s elected institutions, highlighting the power struggles between the Leader’s office and Iran’s elected institutions.

Book excerpt: How leaders from the best workplaces build trust in their organizations The Trustworthy Leader reveals the benefits organizations enjoy when trustworthy behavior is practiced consistently by their leaders. Drawing from examples from the Best Companies to Work For, Lyman, cofounder of Great Place to Work Institute, explains that being trustworthy means that leaders' behaviors are rooted in their commitment to the value of trust and not simply in an imitation of the practices of others. She identifies six elements that reflect a leader's trustworthiness: honor, inclusion, engaging followers, sharing information, developing others, and moving through uncertainty to pursue opportunities. Features leaders from great companies such as REI, Wegman's, R.W. Baird, TDIndustries, and more Based on more than 20 years of rigorous research into the value of trust in companies large and small and its link to financial and organizational performance Published to coincide with the release of the FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For 2012 list This book offers a key to developing high levels of trust, a critical endeavor in an age when seemingly every day a story of a leader's lapse in ethical behavior makes headlines.

Book The Jewish Unions in America

Download or read book The Jewish Unions in America written by Bernard Weinstein and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Newly arrived in New York in 1882 from Tsarist Russia, the sixteen-year-old Bernard Weinstein discovered an America in which unionism, socialism, and anarchism were very much in the air. He found a home in the tenements of New York and for the next fifty years he devoted his life to the struggles of fellow Jewish workers. The Jewish Unions in America blends memoir and history to chronicle this time. It describes how Weinstein led countless strikes, held the unions together in the face of retaliation from the bosses, investigated sweatshops and factories with the aid of reformers, and faced down schisms by various factions, including Anarchists and Communists. He co-founded the United Hebrew Trades and wrote speeches, articles and books advancing the cause of the labor movement. From the pages of this book emerges a vivid picture of workers’ organizations at the beginning of the twentieth century and a capitalist system that bred exploitation, poverty, and inequality. Although workers’ rights have made great progress in the decades since, Weinstein’s descriptions of workers with jobs pitted against those without, and American workers against workers abroad, still carry echoes today. The Jewish Unions in America is a testament to the struggles of working people a hundred years ago. But it is also a reminder that workers must still battle to live decent lives in the free market. For the first time, Maurice Wolfthal’s readable translation makes Weinstein’s Yiddish text available to English readers. It is essential reading for students and scholars of labor history, Jewish history, and the history of American immigration.

Book United Apart

  • ISBN : 1501727079
  • Pages : 259 pages

Download or read book United Apart written by Ileen A. DeVault and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late nineteenth century, most jobs were strictly segregated by sex. And yet, despite their separation at work, male and female employees regularly banded together when they or their unions considered striking. In her groundbreaking book, Ileen A. DeVault explores how gender helped to shape the outcome of job actions—and how gender bias became central to unionism in America. Covering the period from the formation of the American Federation of Labor in 1886 to the establishment of the Women's Trade Union League in 1903, DeVault analyzes forty strikes from across the nation in the tobacco, textile, clothing, and boot and shoe industries. She draws extensively on her research in local newspapers as she traces the daily encounters among male and female coworkers in workplaces, homes, and union halls. Jobs considered appropriate for men and those for women were, she finds, sufficiently interdependent that the success of the action depended on both sexes cooperating. At the same time, with their livelihoods at stake, tensions between women and men often appeared. The AFL entered the twentieth century as the country's primary vehicle for unionized workers, and its attitude toward women formed the basis for virtually all later attempts at their organization. United Apart transforms conventional wisdom on the rise of the AFL by showing how its member unions developed their central beliefs about female workers and how those beliefs affected male workers as well.
