Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study, situated within the field of Language and Sexuality Studies, investigates the characterisation of fictional gay men in 21st-century British drama. The research is based on a corpus of 61 plays, staged between 2000 and 2020, which collectively feature 187 gay male characters. The study employs methodological triangulation to explore the corpus from three distinct perspectives, moving from broad trends to more detailed analyses. The first section offers an overview of 20th and 21st-century British drama featuring gay characters, identifying general trends in the portrayal of homosexuality in contemporary British theatre. The second section delves into the 187 fictional gay characters, classifying them according to both sociolinguistic variables (such as age, social class, and linguistic variety) and variables specific to Language and Sexuality Studies (including levels of openness about their sexuality and their distinctive use of “gayspeak”). The final section takes an eclectic approach, providing a multifaceted analysis of the “gayspeak” observed in the corpus. This is done through both manual analysis and a corpus-assisted approach using #Lancsbox software. The primary goal of this section is to evaluate whether the features of “gayspeak” identified in earlier studies persist in the contemporary plays under examination.

Book Unveiling the Power of Teacher Education Promoting Gender Equality in Education

Download or read book Unveiling the Power of Teacher Education Promoting Gender Equality in Education written by Dr. Vishnu Vijayan M A and published by Research Culture Society and Publication. This book was released on 2024-01-10 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is a potent tool that has the ability to influence both people and societies. We can build a more just and inclusive society where everyone is respected and given the same chances to succeed through education. Gender equality is a key component of this vision because it guarantees that everyone has access to the same rights, opportunities, and resources regardless of their gender identity. In order to better understand the transformative role that teacher education plays in advancing gender equality, "Unveiling the Power of Teacher Education: Promoting Gender Equality in Education" has been created. This book explores a variety of aspects of gender perspectives in teacher education and offers suggestions for educators, decision-makers, and other stakeholders in the field of education. The journey starts with exploring the meaning of sex and gender, realising that these concepts are separate but connected. We build a solid foundation for meaningful conversation and action in support of gender equality by comprehending the complexities of gender-related concepts and terminology. The historical context of gender in education provides insight into both the challenges that have persisted over time and the advancements that have been made. We recognise the key figures and turning points in gender-inclusive education, honouring the people and movements that paved the way for improvement. This historical perspective inspires us to carry out the unfinished business because it serves as a reminder that we stand on the shoulders of those who have fought for equality. In-depth examination of gender perspectives in teacher education is done to show how they have changed over time. The methods and techniques used in teacher preparation programmes have evolved along with our understanding of gender. Given that teachers are at the forefront of influencing society, we understand the significance of incorporating gender perspectives into teacher training programmes. We enable them to be change agents by giving them the knowledge, abilities, and attitudes to oppose gender norms and biases. The importance of gender-inclusive pedagogy, which calls for incorporating gender perspectives across subjects, is emphasised in the book. Recognising the impact of learning resources and materials on students' perceptions and attitudes, we investigate strategies for promoting gender equality in them. In addition, we explore the critical task of developing welcoming, safe, and inclusive learning environments where each student is treated with respect and is given encouragement. Another major theme of this book is how gender education can empower students. We recognise the significance of promoting healthy gender identities and self-expression, addressing the pervasive problem of bullying and harassment based on gender, and assisting marginalised gender identities. In our work with LGBTQ+ students and families, we take into account the particular difficulties they might encounter and offer suggestions for fostering an accepting and affirming environment. We work to promote the rights and welfare of transgender and non-binary students in order to build a culture where everyone is accepted for who they are. Through this book, I want to show readers how teacher education can help create a future that is more equitable and brighter while also inspiring and empowering them to be change agents. As we discover the transformative power of teacher education and its potential to create a world where all people, regardless of their gender, can thrive and fulfil their true potential, let us set out on this journey towards gender equality in education.

  • Pages : 211 pages

Download or read book Unveiling Men written by Wendy DeSouza and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-25 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For years, Iranian academics, writers, and scholars have equated national development and progress with the reform of men’s sexual behavior. Modern intellectuals repudiated native sexuality in Iran, just as their European counterparts in France and Germany did, arguing that transforming male identity was essential to the recovery of the nation. DeSouza offers an alternate narrative of modern Iranian masculinity as an attempt to redraw social hierarchies among men. Moving beyond rigid portrayals of Islamic patriarchy and female oppression, she analyzes debates about manhood and maleness in early twentieth-century Iran, particularly around questions of race and sexuality. DeSouza presents the larger implications of Pahlavi hegemonic masculinity in creating racialized male subjects and “productive” sexualities. In addition, she explores a cross-pollination with Europe, identifying how the “East” shaped visions of European male identity.

Book Unveiling the Origin of Sexuality

Download or read book Unveiling the Origin of Sexuality written by Frederick Guttmann and published by Frederick Guttmann. This book was released on with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years ago I became aware of the need to address the subject of Sex, but I did not feel the intellectual, experiential or contextual capacity to evoke the issue. It is not just about knowing or having experience in something, but about what the Holy Spirit wants you to address, when is the time, what are the tools, how is the topic going to be addressed and what is going to be said. I am talking about an area that we know is taboo, especially if you look at it from a Christian perspective, because talking about sexuality from a humanist or esoteric perspective is not new, but each of these trends has interests that are poorly focused, and fundamental gaps , in some cases even terribly biased. Sexuality must be analyzed from the understanding of the functionality of our organs and senses, the role of the psyche, the spiritual role, the mental role, the emotional role, the evolutionary role, the biological role, the physiological role and the educational role. . What is sexuality? What is behind the sexual practice? What are gender archetypes? What purposes does sex have? Get rid of the idea that sex is a bad thing, whether in a conscious or subconscious sense. God has not created anything bad. It was God who created the sexual subject , not the devil. The evil plagiarizes, do not believe. Don't take sex as a god and a reference either, don't idealize it or prioritize it.

Book Hij b

Download or read book Hij b written by Pepe Hendricks and published by African Minds. This book was released on 2009 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hijab: Unveiling Queer Muslim Lives is the first known collection of South African Muslim stories relating to Islam and sexual diversity. This anthology shares real-life stories of people that have struggled, or may still be struggling, to reconcile their spirituality and their sexuality. These are stories that illustrate the oneness of being and reflect on how some interpretations of the scriptures may alienate others. Although the collection focuses predominantly on Muslim stories, it is universal in its approach in dealing with spirituality rather than religion. The stories are all biographies, or autobiographies, and the writing process was a therapeutic one for the authors of these powerful stories. Hopefully they will provide strength and courage to others in similar situations, not so much through a deeper understanding of those who share their stories in this collection, but rather through a process of identification with the circumstances related by these courageous story-tellers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title Unveiling Eve is the first feminist inquiry into the Hebrew poetry and prose forms cultivated in Muslim and Christian Spain, Italy, and Provence in the eleventh through fourteenth centuries. In the Jewish Middle Ages, writing was an exclusively male competence, and textual institutions such as the study of scripture, mysticism, philosophy, and liturgy were men's sanctuaries from which women were banished. These domains of male expertise—alongside belles lettres, on which Rosen's book focuses—served as virtual laboratories for experimenting with concepts of femininity and masculinity, hetero- and homosexuality, feminization and virilization, transvestism and transsexuality. Reviewing texts as varied as love lyric, love stories, marriage debates, rhetorical contests, and liturgical and moralistic pieces, Tova Rosen considers the positions and positioning of female figures and female voices within Jewish male discourse. The idolization and demonization of women present in these texts is read here against the background of scripture and rabbinic literature as well as the traditions of chivalry and misogyny in the hosting Islamic and Christian cultures. Unveiling Eve unravels the literary evidence of a patriarchal tradition in which women are routinely rendered nonentities, often positioned as abstractions without bodies or reified as bodies without subjectivities. Without rigidly following any one school of feminist thinking, Rosen creatively employs a variety of methodologies to describe and assess the texts' presentation of male sexual politics and delineate how women and concepts of gender were manipulated, fictionalized, fantasized, and poeticized. Inaugurating a new era of critical thinking in Hebrew literature, Unveiling Eve penetrates a field of medieval literary scholarship that has, until now, proven impervious to feminist criticism.

And the topics may seem random and unrelated to each other, but the discussion is surely valuable. The conclusions given by me are not the statement of ultimate truths, but rather expressions of the changing nature of thought process. You'll find my thoughts on topics ranging from the deep to the natural, from the personal to the global. It's important to understand that these mindsets are not fixed opinions, but rather samples of what I believe is true about various aspects of various topics. They are pieces developed by the different aspects of each issue that have crossed my mind, a complex mix created through instances, interactions, and thoughts. Consider this an invitation for discussion rather than a declaration of definitive facts as we progress through these chapters. Perspectives are flexible to change with evolution. What you'll read here aren't principles, but rather the changing boundaries of my thought process. I request you, dear reader, to approach my ideas with an open mind in an attitude of learning and inquiry. Just as landscapes change as we travel, I hope so can our viewpoints as we relate with a variety of views. May this book serve as an opportunity for your own thoughts, bringing about discussions, and maybe analyzing your own views. So, let us begin on this logical exploration together.

Book Unveiling the Gender Paradox

Download or read book Unveiling the Gender Paradox written by Lekha N.B. and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both nationally and internationally, the south Indian state of Kerala has been an object of study for its matrilineal kinship organization among some communities, as well as its achievements in education, literacy, and life expectancy for women against a weak economic base. Nonetheless, scholars have drawn attention to a paradox in Kerala’s model of development, namely women’s deteriorating social position in Kerala and the rise in violence against women. Against this backdrop, this book explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, marriage, family and kinship as related to the matrilineal Nayar community in Kerala. Chapters unravel the interplay between the triple categories of gender, power and social development as they play out at the micro, meso, and macro levels of society, probing the ways in which Nayar women practice agency. Ultimately, the authors explore how the strength of the Nayar community can be used as a case study toward circumventing the prevailing gender paradox and re-imagine a more liberated, empowered and self-reliant woman not only in Kerala, but in India at large. This book will be of interest to scholars in sociology, gender studies, and development studies, particularly those with a focus on South Asia.

Download or read book The Unveiling written by Michal Storey and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story of one person's resolve not to have been the victim, but to have risen above the tirade of evil. Its intrigue is bound by the reality of the ostensibly permeating lengths that one individual can go to cover their tracks. The schemer is that corrupted and narcissistic entity who, through bizarre plotting and activity, attempts to make the deviant renowned. The characterization of such a personage becomes inadvertently incumbent upon this author. The villain could be a society that stands passively by as though in a narcotic stupor which needs to be awakened. Silent, dependent and unwittingly cooperative, they wait as a scapegoat is marked for incrimination and destruction. The theme of redemption is classic in its description as God intervenes while two parallels, step by step and side by side, attempt to compose their craft within someone over the better part of that person’s life. This is The Unveiling. Warning: Graphic Descriptions

Book Unveiling Desire

  • ISBN : 0813587867
  • Pages : 445 pages

Download or read book Unveiling Desire written by Devaleena Das and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-16 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Unveiling Desire, Devaleena Das and Colette Morrow show that the duality of the fallen/saved woman is as prevalent in Eastern culture as it is in the West, specifically in literature and films. Using examples from the Middle to Far East, including Iran, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Japan, and China, this anthology challenges the fascination with Eastern women as passive, abject, or sexually exotic, but also resists the temptation to then focus on the veil, geisha, sati, or Muslim women’s oppression without exploring Eastern women’s sexuality beyond these contexts. The chapters cover instead mind/body sexual politics, patriarchal cultural constructs, the anatomy of sex and power in relation to myth and culture, denigration of female anatomy, and gender performativity. From Persepolis to Bollywood, and from fairy tales to crime fiction, the contributors to Unveiling Desire show how the struggle for women’s liberation is truly global.

Book Beyond the Posthumous Memories of Br s Cubas Unveiling Machado de Assis

Download or read book Beyond the Posthumous Memories of Br s Cubas Unveiling Machado de Assis written by MAX EDITORIAL and published by Max Editorial. This book was released on 2024-06-05 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas" is a masterpiece of Brazilian literature, written by Machado de Assis in 1881. The novel, narrated by a deceased, is known for its ironic tone and pessimism. Brás Cubas, the protagonist, narrates his memories and reflections after death, exploring themes such as the futility of life, the hypocrisy of society and the inevitability of death. This ebook aims to counter the ideas presented by Machado de Assis, offering a more optimistic and humanistic vision of life and human relationships. The choice of a deceased narrator is, in itself, a literary innovation that allows Machado de Assis to explore the human condition from a unique perspective. Freed from social conventions and worldly concerns, Brás Cubas recounts his life with ironic detachment, exposing the weaknesses and contradictions of the living. His critical look at 19th century society is acidic and revealing, denouncing the moral failures and hypocrisies of the individuals who make up the social fabric. In this context, the futility of life emerges as a central theme. Brás Cubas, when revisiting his experiences, often concludes that his efforts and ambitions were in vain. The incessant search for pleasure, power and recognition is portrayed as useless and ephemeral. This pessimistic view reflects the narrator's disbelief in the human capacity to find lasting meaning or true happiness amid the vicissitudes of existence. Furthermore, society's hypocrisy is forcefully exposed. Brás Cubas describes an elite concerned with appearances, where publicly proclaimed virtues are often contradicted by selfish and self-serving actions. Morality is often a facade, and people's true motivation is revealed to be self-benefit. This social criticism is a trademark of Machado de Assis's work, which, with his wit, challenges readers to question values and behaviors accepted without reflection. The inevitability of death, finally, is a theme that permeates the entire novel. The death of Brás Cubas is the starting point for the narrative, and his condition as deceased-narrator underlines the certainty that all human efforts end in the same inevitable conclusion. Death levels all social distinctions and makes all worldly achievements irrelevant. This recognition of the transience of life gives the novel a melancholic and philosophical tone, leading the reader to reflect on their own mortality. However, this ebook proposes a different reading. Although "Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas" presents a discouraging view of life and human nature, we believe that it is possible to find a more optimistic and humanistic perspective on human experiences and relationships. Life, with all its imperfections and challenges, is also filled with moments of beauty, kindness and meaning. Human relationships, even marked by failures, can be sources of support, love and mutual growth. Through this work, we seek to explore how resilience, empathy and the search for a purpose can counter Brás Cubas' pessimism. We believe that, despite adversity, life offers opportunities for personal development and the construction of a more just and compassionate society. We invite the reader to reflect on these possibilities and discover a more positive and hopeful approach to the human condition. Welcome to this journey of rediscovery and reinterpretation of the "Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas". May this reading inspire new thoughts and feelings, promoting a more balanced and optimistic view of life and human relationships.
