Book Transitions in Land and Housing

Download or read book Transitions in Land and Housing written by Ann Louise Strong and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transitions in Land and Housing in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Poland describes the shifts in control of land and housing from the public sector in those countries in the context of the transition from communism to market democracy. Most people now have a stake in the system as owners of property - farms, apartments, houses, shops, shares in enterprises - but this transition is not without cost. Housing construction has plummeted, farmland lies fallow, housing credit and farm credit are rarely available, and the poor and elderly fear loss of the social safety net. Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Poland have responded to the challenges of transition in distinct ways, each influenced by its pre-communist past and by the extent of state power under communism. Strong, Reiner and Szyrmer's work is the first in-depth study to examine the role of real property in the transition process and will be of great interest to scholars and students of planning, public policy, political science and international affairs. Land policy research centres, here and abroad, will find it especially useful.

Book Property Regimes in Transition Land Reform Food Security and Economic Development A Case Study in the Kyrguz Republic

Download or read book Property Regimes in Transition Land Reform Food Security and Economic Development A Case Study in the Kyrguz Republic written by Henri A.L. Dekker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003. Many former communist republics strive to adopt a market economy in which the privatisation of landed property is a key element. Generally, it is expected that by doing so, economic development will take off, improving food security and decreasing rural poverty. The relationship between changing land regulations, economic development and poverty is complex and yet little understood. With land reform, governments in transitional economies expect to achieve economic growth and thus alleviation of rural poverty. Nowadays, there is ample research to prove that, to be effective, land policy reforms need to be complemented with institutional reforms, and rural development activities. It puts forward a model for rapid assessment of project progress in which macro-economic indicators are applied in a systematic way to give insight to concepts such as land tenure security and food security and to provide warning signals for less-desired developments as a result of project implementation.

Book Land Use Transitions and Rural Restructuring in China

Download or read book Land Use Transitions and Rural Restructuring in China written by Hualou Long and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended as a comprehensive guide to the study of land use and rural development, this book offers detailed descriptions of land use transitions and rural restructuring. To do so, it chiefly focuses on three main aspects, the first of which is the application of geographical perspectives in order to understand rural issues in connection with urbanization, industrialization, globalization and rural vitalization strategies in contemporary China. Secondly, it presents a rich blend of regional and national analyses; detailed explorations of local cases; and critical and theoretically informed discussions that address historical paths and future projections. Lastly, it adapts concepts derived from western literature to situations and experiences in rural China, and provides empirical evidence from an “insider” perspective. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable resource for researchers, and for graduate students / courses in geography and sociology.
