Book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant

Download or read book Catalytic Oxidations with Hydrogen Peroxide as Oxidant written by G. Strukul and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical that is becoming increasingly fashionable as an oxidant, both in industry and in academia and whose production is expected to increase significantly in the next few years. This growth in interest is largely due to environmental considerations related to the clean nature of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant, its by-product being only water. To date this chemical has largely been employed as a non-selective oxidant in operations like the bleaching of paper, cellulose and textiles, or in the formulation of detergents, and only to a minimal extent in the manufacture of organic chemicals. This book has been organized to cover the different aspects of the chemistry of hydrogen peroxide. The various chapters into which the book is divided have been written critically by the authors with the general aim of stimulating new ideas and emphasizing those aspects that are likely to lead to new developments in organic synthesis in the coming future.

Book Activation and Catalytic Reactions of Saturated Hydrocarbons in the Presence of Metal Complexes

Download or read book Activation and Catalytic Reactions of Saturated Hydrocarbons in the Presence of Metal Complexes written by A.E. Shilov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: hemistry is the science about breaking and forming of bonds between atoms. One of the most important processes for organic chemistry is breaking bonds C–H, as well as C–C in various compounds, and primarily, in hydrocarbons. Among hydrocarbons, saturated hydrocarbons, alkanes (methane, ethane, propane, hexane etc. ), are especially attractive as substrates for chemical transformations. This is because, on the one hand, alkanes are the main constituents of oil and natural gas, and consequently are the principal feedstocks for chemical industry. On the other hand, these substances are known to be the less reactive organic compounds. Saturated hydrocarbons may be called the “noble gases of organic chemistry” and, if so, the first representative of their family – methane – may be compared with extremely inert helium. As in all comparisons, this parallel between noble gases and alkanes is not fully accurate. Indeed the transformations of alkanes, including methane, have been known for a long time. These reactions involve the interaction with molecular oxygen from air (burning – the main source of energy!), as well as some mutual interconversions of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. However, all these transformations occur at elevated temperatures (higher than 300–500 °C) and are usually characterized by a lack of selectivity. The conversion of alkanes into carbon dioxide and water during burning is an extremely valuable process – but not from a chemist viewpoint.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades there has been considerable growth in the development of electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) as a practical method in the study of reaction mechanisms. This method allows the interception and characterization of key intermediates, either as transient species or as protonated/deprotonated forms of neutral species by API-MS. The outstanding features and advantages of ESI-MS make it one of the most suitable tools for the fast screening of intermediates directly from solution, providing hitherto unavailable chemical information to organic chemists. This monograph provides an overview of the mechanisms involved in ESI-MS, the historical perspectives before looking further in-depth at specific reactions and intermediates. Written by researchers in the field, this book is an unique resource for the understanding of this cutting-edge technique.

This book was released on 2022-07-25 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum chemistry uses the Schrödinger equation to predict properties of molecules and their course in chemical reactions. From the 1920 to 1960s, it handled the complicated mathematical equations of quantum mechanics for molecules. Now, it can solve complicated problems through computer technology. It also makes real-time calculations with new concepts and simplifications. Novel approaches will be needed in quantum chemistry to promote research field beyond a set of techniques available in computer programs for showing many pressing problems of humanity. Currently, it is available to everyone to use popular free chemistry software packages. First generate new ideas to explore and produce truly novel results with their capabilities. Since 1960, remarkable advances are observed in the development and availability of computers for making all-important contributions to the solutions of critical problems in chemistry. One of the most challenges in chemistry is the prediction of the folded structure of peptide and protein synthesis in different chemical environments. It is highly interdisciplinary field of research, linking biology and biochemistry fields, like analytical, inorganic, organic, medicinal, physical, pharmaceutical and theoretical chemistry.

Book Platinum and Other Metal Coordination Compounds in Cancer Chemotherapy

Download or read book Platinum and Other Metal Coordination Compounds in Cancer Chemotherapy written by Stephen B. Howell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taken together the data presented in this review, and work by many other investigators, support the notion that DNA excision repair is important in a tumor cell's resistance to platinum compounds. Inhibition of this repair system by combination chemotherapy with the excision repair inhibitors HU and Ara-C produces synergistic cell kills and increased levels and persistance of DNA interstrand crosslinks. The studies with cis-DDP and ~-DDP in combination with UV induced thymine dimers suggest that there may be competition for DNA repair enzymes between the dimer and the platinum lesion. Whether the competing lesion is an intrastrand crosslink, interstrand crosslink, or platinum monoadduct (or all of these lesions) cannot be determined. The similarity between an intrastrand crosslink and a cyclobutane dimer suggests that these lesions may compete for repair. However, the increased peak levels of interstrand crosslinks, and increased persistence of these lesions at later time points suggest that this lesion may also be a substrate for the repair system. These observations may be of clinical relevance. Recently Dr. Kathy Albain of our institution has completed a Phase III I study using a 12 hour pretreatment with HU and Ara-C in patients prior to their cis-DDP therapy. She observed a significant number of responders in this trial (54). She is currently completing a second Phase IIII study substituting IV HU for the oral formulation. We anticipate initiating other clinical trials based upon these observations.

Download or read book Green Chemical Reactions written by Pietro Tundo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-22 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green Chemistry is an inventive science based on fundamental research towards the development of new sustainable chemical processes. There is a great need to create a new type of chemistry focused on a new production system, in order to prepare the younger generation to get a greener future. The globalization pushes the chemistry community to adopt ethical issues. In this prospect Green Chemistry can achieve the approval of the society by teaching students to be confident in science and at the same time by convincing people that it is possible to attain technological development with respect and care for the environment we live in. This is why it is of foremost importance that education and fundamental research remain strictly connected, so that democracy and development can grow and progress side by side. This book has been prepared to extend the knowledge of Green Chemistry not disregarding, however, the industrial interest. It is the result of the effort to put together and share the expertise of leading practitioners in the field of Green Chemistry. The Interuniversity Consortium ‘Chemistry for the Environment’ is a non-profit organisation established in 1993 in Italy. At present it includes 31 member universities and 80 research units.
