Download or read book Thoughts While Shaving and Assorted Verses written by Donal Beckett and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thoughts While Shaving is a collection of observations and anecdotes which originated some years ago when, after he had retired, the author found himself settled in S. Carolina on the East coast, while his family were spread over in the North-West , and, as they were all lousy letter-writers, communication was restricted to an occasional , but welcome, phone call. As a better - than - nothing way of keeping in touch, he started sending out a 'Thoughts While Shaving' letter every month in the hope of provoking some sort of written reaction, and as this seemed to have some success, the prospect of publishing them eventually emerged . The compiling of them for publication has been a welcome labor and it is hoped that, at least for some, this pleasure may be shared.

Hyatt's, spiritual journey as a Christian youth, throughout his adulthood. As a youth, Jonathan learns to unlock his heart by writing his thoughts and prayers in his letters to God; however, as a young man, life soon gets busy for Hyatt and he rarely finds the inspiration to write. His letters remain saved, tucked away, in a cedar chest, almost forgotten. Several years pass and his pen remains silent. At last, through the spontaneous kindness, of a young boy named Abel, Hyatt receives his inspiration to write once again. Suddenly, he begins to write his thoughts, reflections and prayers intertwined with Bible passages which speak to his heart. Inspiration later comes through his own personal struggles and his wife's battle with cancer. Encouraged by his family and friends, Hyatt's writing collection becomes a book, which he hopes will inspire many people, to a closer walk with God, in their spiritual journey.

Book A Poet s Assortment Of Poems

Download or read book A Poet s Assortment Of Poems written by Ken Martinez and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2015-06-23 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is like a plant growing from a stone wall, a poem growing from a story. A few months ago, I opened my laptop and resumed last night’s work on this new literary project, which had no working title — centered on a collection of my poems and their stories. Some of the poems here are written or suggested in my autobiography, ‘Koko Ken’. I am having a hard time writing this section because the stories and elucidations are written within this book. Being a Spina-Bifida baby boomer, I wasn’t to live past six weeks. I’m sixty-four – by the blessings of the Lord, the plant is alive from the stone wall. So, here we are, growing from the wall, the stories and me behind the poems.

Book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind

This book was released on 2000-08-15 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National Book Award Finalist: “This man’s ideas may be the most influential, not to say controversial, of the second half of the twentieth century.”—Columbus Dispatch At the heart of this classic, seminal book is Julian Jaynes's still-controversial thesis that human consciousness did not begin far back in animal evolution but instead is a learned process that came about only three thousand years ago and is still developing. The implications of this revolutionary scientific paradigm extend into virtually every aspect of our psychology, our history and culture, our religion—and indeed our future. “Don’t be put off by the academic title of Julian Jaynes’s The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. Its prose is always lucid and often lyrical…he unfolds his case with the utmost intellectual rigor.”—The New York Times “When Julian Jaynes . . . speculates that until late in the twentieth millennium BC men had no consciousness but were automatically obeying the voices of the gods, we are astounded but compelled to follow this remarkable thesis.”—John Updike, The New Yorker “He is as startling as Freud was in The Interpretation of Dreams, and Jaynes is equally as adept at forcing a new view of known human behavior.”—American Journal of Psychiatry
