Book The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind

Download or read book The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind written by Billie G and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I grew up in Vancouver where I’ve run the gamut of alcoholism, addiction, dysfunction, and every other intergenerational effect around. I am a Heiltsuk, born in Bella Bella, BC. My name is Billie, and I am known on a popular social media site and from my childhood as Billie G. I am the sixth daughter of a handsome carver/fisherman and a beautiful mom who worked in the cannery in Namu, BC. I am a proud mom of four beautiful sons, Martin, Gregory, Miguel and Jamie. I am a grandmother, an aunt, a daughter and a niece, sister, cousin and friend. I had absolutely no idea why my people and I are so broken. I had no idea what intergenerational effects were until I went to college and then university. Before I had the privilege of earning an education, I had no idea why I’d led a life stagnant and laden with dysfunction or why I could not just ‘be healthy.’ I did not understand why I had to take the long rough and tough way around towards healing. I have since earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from an indigenous perspective and I have learned a lot about me and my life and how I’ve been affected by intergenerational effects.I understand now why I am so stigmatized. I understand now who I am and where I come from. I have recognized not a lot of people, indigenous or otherwise, are unaware of what intergenerational effects are. I have correlated some effects with my life in hopes of giving more clarity in how they affect me and my people. These are my views, this is my understanding, and this is my life. These are The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind.

Book ADHD and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders FASD

Download or read book ADHD and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders FASD written by Kieran D. O'Malley and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-author book will discuss the history and clinical presentation of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders(FASD) i.e Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Alcohol Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (ARND). These developmental neuropsychiatric disorders result from prenatal exposure to alcohol during any gestational period of pregnancy. The book will particularly address the co-occurring presence of ADHD in patients with FASD. ADHD is the most frequent neuropsychiatric presentation of FASD throughout the lifespan and it is particularly difficult to manage because the underlying pathophysiology is related to prenatal neurotoxic brain injury. Although prenatal alcohol exposure , and the resulting FASD, is recognised as the commonest preventable cause of intellectual disability, many clinicians and educators are not aware that 75 to 80% of the patients with FASD have I.Q.s over 70. Thus, the neuropsychiatric presentation of FASD can often be unrecognised or misunderstood. FASD are the true clinical ' masqueraders' and ADHD is their most likely disguise! The authors are all experienced professionals from a wide range of disciplines working throughout the USA and Canada. They have been involved in the diagnosis, research and management of FASD for many years and this book will bring their collective knowledge regarding management from infancy to adulthood to an inter-professional audience.

He whispers softly to them, “DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.” The US Review of Books “If only you believe, you can achieve anything.” Nicky Moonbeam, The Man in the Moon, has two very important tasks he must perform each night. When Christmas Eve arrives, Nicky receives an emergency signal from the North Pole. Rudolph has come down with a cold and can’t guide Santa’s sleigh. The snow is falling faster and thicker by the minute while the mischievous Dream Stealers are playing practical jokes and pranks on Santa’s elves and reindeer. Nicky must help save Christmas. Nicky quickly realizes he must overcome his fear and find a way to have the Dream Stealers and elves work together. Children cannot be disappointed on Christmas morning. Cavaliere created the Nicky Moonbeam character when she was a little girl to help deal with her fear of the dark. Fast forward years later and the result is a heartwarming story with an important lesson children can take to heart. Book Working with Complexity in PTSD

Download or read book Working with Complexity in PTSD written by Hannah Murray and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This accessible, evidence-based book provides readers with a practical framework to understand, formulate, and treat PTSD using the cognitive model while creatively adapting for complexity. Cognitive therapy for PTSD is a highly effective treatment, but aspects of clinical complexity can complicate treatment and limit its effectiveness. Trauma memories themselves can be complex, the associated meanings can resist change and people may struggle to engage with them without feeling overwhelmed. Problems that commonly arise alongside PTSD add to clinical complexity, such as comorbid psychological or physical disorders, social problems, and ongoing risks. Bringing together the science and art of therapy, this book demonstrates how to approach these issues by holding firm to the principles of CBT, whilst flexing and creatively adapting techniques for each unique circumstance. Rich case studies, top tips, and frequently asked questions are used throughout to demonstrate the approach. Written by clinicians for clinicians, the book synthesizes the latest research into a practical treatment manual to help readers overcome obstacles in PTSD treatment and ‘supercharge’ their therapy skills.

Book Fantasyland

    Book Details:
  • Author : Kurt Andersen
  • Publisher : Random House
  • Release : 2017-10-12
  • ISBN : 1473556953
  • Pages : 480 pages

Download or read book Fantasyland written by Kurt Andersen and published by Random House. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts Fantasy is the USA’s primary product. From the Pilgrim Fathers onward America has been a place where renegades and freaks came in search of freedom to create their own realities with little objectively regulated truth standing in their way. The freedom to invent and believe whatever the hell you like is, in some ways, an unwritten constitutional right. But, this do-your-own-thing freedom also is the driving credo of America's current transformation where the difference between opinion and fact is rapidly crumbling. So how did we get to this weird pseudo-reality, where science and objective facts are dismissed in favour of opinions and wild speculation, or indeed, fantasies? The post truth, fake news, free-for-all mentality isn’t exactly a new phenomenon. If you want to understand Trump's America, how the lines between reality and illusion have become dangerously blurred, you have to go back to the very beginning and take a dizzying road trip across five centuries of crackpot delusion and make-believe from Salem to Scientology. Fantasyland is a journey that connects the dots between crazed franchises of true believers – a rich freak show tapestry from Mormons to Flat-Earthers and satanic panic, new age quacks to anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists of every stripe, creationists to climate change deniers, UFO-obsessives to gun-toting libertarians, showmen hucksters from P T Barnum to Trump himself, all topped off with a dangerous dose of anti-government paranoia and pseudoscience. Along the way, New York Times bestselling author Kurt Andersen has created a unique and raucous history of America and a new paradigm for understanding our post-factual world.

Book American Jewish Loss after the Holocaust

Download or read book American Jewish Loss after the Holocaust written by Laura Levitt and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of us belong to communities that have been scarred by terrible calamities. And many of us come from families that have suffered grievous losses. How we reflect on these legacies of loss and the ways they inform each other are the questions Laura Levitt takes up in this provocative and passionate book. An American Jew whose family was not directly affected by the Holocaust, Levitt grapples with the challenges of contending with ordinary Jewish loss. She suggests that although the memory of the Holocaust may seem to overshadow all other kinds of loss for American Jews, it can also open up possibilities for engaging these more personal and everyday legacies. Weaving in discussions of her own family stories and writing in a manner that is both deeply personal and erudite, Levitt shows what happens when public and private losses are seen next to each other, and what happens when difficult works of art or commemoration, such as museum exhibits or films, are seen alongside ordinary family stories about more intimate losses. In so doing she illuminates how through these “ordinary stories” we may create an alternative model for confronting Holocaust memory in Jewish culture.
