Book Escape from Time

Download or read book Escape from Time written by Frederick Kile and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000-07-28 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book Description: Why are millions disgusted with our political parties? Did the huge explosion in the federal building in Oklahoma City make any sense? We wait nervously for another school shooting. What's next? America is changing so fast that laws and culture are almost meaningless. Escape from Time is the story of how we are divorcing the past. We are rid of the worst and the best of our inherited culture. We are what no other country has ever been. Culture--laws, religion, the "story of America"--belong to the immigrants who came looking for a future. Those immigrants are history. They lived for the future. We live for "right now." Past and future are not our psychological radar. We live by impulse. If it feelsright, it isright. We don't understand our culture, certainly not our laws and institutions. These relics manufacture "crimes" from what we call everday life, and we can't build enough prisons to keep up. Escape from Time is the story of a new way of life in America--life in the NOW! Read it and understand who we are; escape the fiction that we are who we were. Author bio: Frederick Kile—engineer, theologian, corporate futurist. As parish pastor, he encountered wealthy and poor, “old-timers” and social rebels. Engineering experience includes Project Apollo and designing global socioeconomic computer models. Currently adult education director in a large Lutheran church, Fred also chairs a multinational committee of engineers studying international stability.

In Just Beyond Tomorrow, Jasmine's strong-willed son, Patrick Leslie, continues Skye's Legacy when he takes a wife who wants no husband. . . Just Beyond Tomorrow With his father dead and his mother in France, Patrick Leslie, Duke of Glenkirk, discovers the obligations of the estate and its people are now his alone. But during a day of hunting, a chance meeting ensures that he will not be alone much longer, for to obtain the deserted castle and lands adjoining his, Patrick must agree to take something else, as well--a bride. Flanna Brodie, heiress to Brae, is as vibrant and beautiful as the Scottish countryside, and just as wild. She wants no man--only her freedom. But the passions Patrick awakens in her run deeper than those of the flesh. The independent Flanna is determined to champion the royal Stuarts' cause, and restore Charles II to his throne despite her husband's objections. Patrick knows the dangers of such political intrigues; that the Stuarts have always brought misfortune to the Leslies of Glenkirk, and that a roguish king will ask far more of the naïve duchess than a simple vow of fealty--forcing Patrick and Flanna to choose between the threat of wounded pride, and the promise of a lasting love both secretly yearn for. . .

We belong to one family in Christ in whom all things consist, provided we believe in Him. Again, we are of three categories, and it is by these categories that everyone will stand naked before the judgment seat of God: the natural man, the carnal man and the spiritual man.

Book Religious Liberty in Western Thought

Download or read book Religious Liberty in Western Thought written by Noel B. Reynolds and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. In this volume, several leading scholars harvest the best of Western thinking on religious liberty. An opening chapter shows how religious liberty emerged slowly in the West through centuries of cruel experience and growing enlightenment. Separate chapters thereafter take up the unique role of such titans as Marsilius, Luther, Calvin, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Burke, Tocqueville, and the American framers in the Western drama of religious liberty. From widely divergent experiences, these titans discovered the cardinal principles of religious liberty -- religious pluralism and toleration, religious equality and non- discrimination, liberty of conscience and association, freedom of expression and exercise. From widely discordant convictions, they distilled the most enduring models of church and state and of religion and law in the West -- from the organic models of earlier centuries to the dualistic models of more recent times. Book National Identities and Post Americanist Narratives

Download or read book National Identities and Post Americanist Narratives written by Donald E. Pease and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National narratives create imaginary relations within imagined communities called national peoples. But in the American narrative, alongside the nexus of belonging established for the national community, the national narrative has represented other peoples (women, blacks, "foreigners", the homeless) from whom the property of nationness has been removed altogether and upon whose differences from them the national people depended for the construction of their norms. Dismantling this opposition has become the task of post-national (Post-Americanist) narratives, bent on changing the assumptions that found the "national identity." This volume, originally published as a special issue of bounrary 2, focuses on the process of assembling and dismantling the American national narrative(s), sketching its inception and demolition. The contributors examine various cultural, political, and historical sources--colonial literature, mass movements, epidemics of disease, mass spectacle, transnational corporations, super-weapons, popular magazines, literary texts--out of which this narrative was constructed, and propose different understandings of nationality and identity following in its wake.
