Book An Introduction to Time Resolved Optically Stimulated Luminescence

Download or read book An Introduction to Time Resolved Optically Stimulated Luminescence written by Makaiko L Chithambo and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time-resolved optical stimulation of luminescence has become established as an important method for measurement of optically stimulated luminescence. Its enduring appeal is easy to see with the number of materials studied growing from the initial focus on natural minerals such as quartz and feldspar to synthetic dosimeters such as -Al2O3:C, BeO and YAlO3:Mn2+. The aim of time-resolved optical stimulation is to separate in time the stimulation and emission of luminescence. The luminescence is stimulated from a sample using a brief light pulse. The ensuing luminescence can be monitored either during stimulation in the presence of scattered stimulating light or after the light-pulse. The time-resolved luminescence spectrum measured in this way can be resolved into components each with a distinct lifetime. The lifetimes are linked to physical processes of luminescence and thus provide a means to study dynamics involving charge transfer between point-defects in materials. This book is devoted to time-resolved optically stimulated luminescence and is suitable for researchers with an interest in the study of point-defects using luminescence methods. The book first sets the method within the context of luminescence field at large and then provides an overview of the instrumentation used. There is much attention on models for time-resolved optically stimulated luminescence, two of which are analytical and the third of which is based on computational simulation of experimental results. To bring relevance to the discussion, the book draws on examples from studies on quartz and a-Al2O3:C, two materials widely investigated using this method. The book shows how kinetic analysis for various thermal effects such as thermal quenching and thermal assistance can be investigated using time-resolved luminescence. Although use of light sums is an obvious choice for this, contemporary work is discussed to show the versatility of using other alternative methods such the dynamic throughput.

Book Thin Film Diamond I

Download or read book Thin Film Diamond I written by Christopher Nebel and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2003-12-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reviews the state of the art of thin film diamond, a very promising new semiconductor that may one day rival silicon as the material of choice for electronics. Diamond has the following important characteristics; it is resistant to radiation damage, chemically inert and biocompatible and it will become "the material" for bio-electronics, in-vivo applications, radiation detectors and high-frequency devices. Thin-Film Diamond is the first book to summarize state of the art of CVD diamond in depth. It covers the most recent results regarding growth and structural properties, doping and defect characterization, hydrogen in and on diamond as well as surface properties in general, applications of diamond in electrochemistry, as detectors, and in surface acoustic wave devices.· Accessible by both experts and non-experts in the field of semi-conductors research and technology, each chapter is written in a tutorial format· Helping engineers to manufacture devices with optimized electronic properties· Truly international, this volume contains chapters written by recognized experts representing academic and industrial institutions from Europe, Japan and the US

Book Clinical 3D Dosimetry in Modern Radiation Therapy

Download or read book Clinical 3D Dosimetry in Modern Radiation Therapy written by Ben Mijnheer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 845 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a first comprehensive summary of the basic principles, instrumentation, methods, and clinical applications of three-dimensional dosimetry in modern radiation therapy treatment. The presentation reflects the major growth in the field as a result of the widespread use of more sophisticated radiotherapy approaches such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and proton therapy, which require new 3D dosimetric techniques to determine very accurately the dose distribution. It is intended as an essential guide for those involved in the design and implementation of new treatment technology and its application in advanced radiation therapy, and will enable these readers to select the most suitable equipment and methods for their application. Chapters include numerical data, examples, and case studies.

Book Luminescence Lifetime Mapping of Optical Centres in Natural and Synthetic Diamond

Download or read book Luminescence Lifetime Mapping of Optical Centres in Natural and Synthetic Diamond written by Gediminas Liaugaudas and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lifetimes of luminescence from nitrogen-related optical centres in diamond have been used as probes to study the optical properties of natural and synthetic diamond. Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy has been used to map the luminescence lifetime across the diamond samples with micro-metre spatial resolution. These data were supported by UV-VIS and FTIR absorption, and photo- and cathodoluminescence measurements of the samples. -- A study has been performed on the effects of the common forms of nitrogen in natural and synthetic diamond samples on visible luminescence from nitrogen-related optical centres. New data are reported on luminescence quenching via non-radiative energy transfer to the B-iiitrogen aggregates and to the single-atom form of nitrogen. The first quantitative determinations of the kinetics of energy transfer to these nitrogen-related defects from the visible luminescence centres (H4 and NV) arc made. These data are shown to allow the transformation of the luminescence lifetime maps into maps of the quenching defects, with micro-metre spatial resolution. -- A systematic study has been performed on growth-enhanced, brown CVD synthetic diamonds as-grown and after they had been annealed at 1200°C to 1800°C. The results show that optical centres grown into the bulk of the samples are affected by the annealing as could be predicted. However, unexpected, major changes in the distributions of the optical centres take place following annealing above 1600°C, when the brown colour is removed and the quality of the bulk of each sample is improved. These findings have implications for the opto¬electronic uses of the growth-enhanced CVD diamond. -- The lifetimes of the 467 nm centre characteristic of CVD diamond and the well known '3H' radiation-damage product are reported for the first time, allowing estimates of the concentration of the centres to be made from the strength of absorption in these centres.

Book Analysis of Thermally Stimulated Processes

Download or read book Analysis of Thermally Stimulated Processes written by Reuven Chen and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1981 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermally stimulated processes include a number of phenomena - either physical or chemical in nature - in which a certain property of a substance is measured during controlled heating from a 'low' temperature. Workers and graduate students in a wide spectrum of fields require an introduction to methods of extracting information from such measurements. This book gives an interdisciplinary approach to various methods which may be applied to analytical chemistry including radiation dosimetry and determination of archaeological and geological ages. In addition, recent advances are included, such as ionic thermocurrent of general order kinetics, polarization thermocurrents and some aspects of the superlinear dependence on the dose of thermoluminescence
