Book The Truth About Deception and Its Consequences

Download or read book The Truth About Deception and Its Consequences written by Bill Vincent and published by RWG Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I give thanks to you, Lord. When you issue warnings, we will pay attention and take you at your word that they are sent for a purpose. You said to send out a sneak attack warning, Lord. That is exactly what the enemy is attempting to do: infiltrate the body of Christ in such a way that salvation will no longer be typical in the church, and children will become more disobedient and rebellious than they have ever been. Lord Jesus, thank you. First and first, I want you to know that much of this has been discussed in our home before I ever preach it. "Warning of a sneak attack," God stated as he handed me a title. When I say "sneak attack," I'm not referring to the events of September 11th. I'm not talking about a jet colliding with the side of a building. I'm not referring to any kind of terrorism. What I'm talking about is the enemy infiltrating the church, and the enemy infiltrating the school in such a subtle way that we accept it as common law. We are accepting the changes that are occurring in the world, and we must halt this practice. We aren't in China at all. We aren't in the Russian Federation. We are in the United States of America, which was founded on God and should continue to be founded on God. Hallelujah. I want you to realize that our country is in desperate need. Our kids are the most defiant I've ever seen in my life. I thought I was rebellious, but my goodness, I had never heard of the term. I want you to understand that I've been seeing things in the spirit for a long time, and God has given me names for some of the enemy's methods and tools that some of us don't see because our schools are pushing it, and things are moving in this direction. God has been speaking for some time, but I want you to know what the enemy is using for sneak attacks. He is utilizing things, and every few months, God begins to lay things thoroughly in my heart, to put God's finger on it. This is more like a Lord's Watchman, and I want you to understand that every time God does something like this, it's incredibly powerful, and it's for a specific reason. This, I feel, will be the most important of them all. This is the most critical time to defend our children before they are taken down by the adversary. What's been going on in this region has been the most severe moment, and some of you should be able to connect to it. Let me tell you about some of the things that are happening on right now. It has nothing to do with race. It has nothing to do with what is going on in this country. What's going on in this country is that a monster from hell is attempting to kidnap children and claim them as his own. I'm telling you, some of us aren't aware of this and believe that all children are safe. They're good; they're secure. Let me say something now. I know that there are more sexual encounters going on between children as young as 12, 13 years old than you might expect. Don't assume that simply because you think so, your child is always safe. I'm not here to create a following. I want you to be aware that Satan is use television, Hollywood, and even book authors to bring us down... Satan is using them to entice children into disobedience. Apps, which can be downloaded to any phone, are being used to entice and divert the children.

Book Lying and Deception in Everyday Life

Download or read book Lying and Deception in Everyday Life written by Michael Lewis and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 1993-02-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I speak the truth, not so much as I would, but as much as I dare...."-- Montaigne "All cruel people describe themselves as paragons of frankness.'" -- Tennessee Williams Truth and deception--like good and evil--have long been viewed as diametrically opposed and unreconcilable. Yet, few people can honestly claim they never lie. In fact, deception is practiced habitually in day-to-day life--from the polite compliment that doesn't accurately relay one's true feelings, to self-deception about one's own motivations. What fuels the need for people to intricately construct lies and illusions about their own lives? If deceptions are unconscious, does it mean that we are not responsible for their consequences? Why does self-deception or the need for illusion make us feel uncomfortable? Taking into account the sheer ubiquity and ordinariness of deception, this interdisciplinary work moves away from the cut-and-dried notion of duplicity as evil and illuminates the ways in which deception can also be understood as a adaptive response to the demands of living with others. The book articulates the boundaries between unethical and adaptive deception demonstrating how some lies serve socially approved goals, while others provoke distrust and condemnation. Throughout, the volume focuses on the range of emotions--from feelings of shame, fear, or envy, to those of concern and compassion--that motivate our desire to deceive ourselves and others. Providing an interdisciplinary exploration of the widespread phenomenon of lying and deception, this volume promotes a more fully integrated understanding of how people function in their everyday lives. Case illustrations, humor and wit, concrete examples, and even a mock television sitcom script bring the ideas to life for clinical practitioners, behavioral scientists, and philosophers, and for students in these realms.

Book The Post Truth Era

Download or read book The Post Truth Era written by Ralph Keyes and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2004-10-03 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Dishonesty inspires more euphemisms than copulation or defecation. This helps desensitize us to its implications. In the post-truth era we don't just have truth and lies but a third category of ambiguous statements that are not exactly the truth but fall just short of a lie. Enhanced truth it might be called. Neo-truth. Soft truth. Faux truth. Truth lite." Deception has become the modern way of life. Where once the boundary line between truth and lies was clear and distinct, it is no longer so. In the post-truth era, deceiving others has become a challenge, a game, a habit. High-profile dissemblers compete for news coverage, from journalists like Jayson Blair and professors like Joseph Ellis to politicians (of all stripes), executives, and "creative" accountants. Research suggests that the average American tells multiple lies on a daily basis, often for no good reason. Not a finger-wagging scolding, The Post-Truth Era is a combination of Ralph Keyes's investigative journalism and solid science. The result is a spirited exploration of why we lie about practically everything and the consequences such casual dishonesty has on society. American society has become permeated from top to bottom by deception. Its consequences for the nature of public discourse, media, business, literature, academia, and politics are profound. With dry humor, passionate fervor, and deep understanding, Ralph Keyes takes us on a tour of a world where truth and honesty are no longer absolutes but mutable, fluid concepts.

Book excerpt: Is it ever all right to lie? A philosopher looks at lying and deception in public and private life—in government, medicine, law, academia, journalism, in the family and between friends. Lying is a penetrating and thoughtful examination of one of the most pervasive yet little discussed aspects of our public and private lives. Beginning with the moral questions raised about lying since antiquity, Sissela Bok takes up the justifications offered for all kinds of lies—white lies, lies to the sick and dying, lies of parents to children, lies to enemies, lies to protect clients and peers. The consequences of such lies are then explored through a number of concrete situations in which people are involved, either as liars or as the victims of a lie.

Book excerpt: This encyclopedia examines the phenomenon of deception from a variety of perspectives and in a multitude of contexts. It offers readers an accessibly written and engaging resource that sheds light on when, why, and how we lie. Ironically, it seems to be a universal truth that everyone lies. From innocent "white lies" to elaborate deceptions, humans appear to be hard-wired for dishonesty. But what psychological or evolutionary purpose does lying serve? What motivates us to lie, and what effects do such lies have on those around us and on our own physiology and mental health? What are the differences between types of lies, and how do various forms of dishonesty manifest themselves in such areas as politics, advertising, and social media? And, perhaps most importantly, how can we spot liars in our everyday lives and encourage those around us--and even ourselves--to be more honest? Lies: The Science behind Deception provides a broad and multifaceted introduction to this fascinating topic. More than 175 entries address the many forms of lying, the purpose and development of such behaviors, and their consequences. It also includes practical sidebars that help readers to deal with lying and liars in their own lives.

Book The Truth About Lies

Download or read book The Truth About Lies written by Aja Raden and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do you believe what you believe? You’ve been lied to. Probably a lot. We’re always stunned when we realize we’ve been deceived. We can’t believe we were fooled: What was I thinking? How could I have believed that? We always wonder why we believed the lie. But have you ever wondered why you believe the truth? People tell you the truth all the time, and you believe them; and if, at some later point, you’re confronted with evidence that the story you believed was indeed true, you never wonder why you believed it in the first place. In this incisive and insightful taxonomy of lies and liars, New York Times bestselling author Aja Raden makes the surprising claim that maybe you should. Buttressed by history, psychology, and science, The Truth About Lies is both an eye-opening primer on con-artistry—from pyramid schemes to shell games, forgery to hoaxes—and also a telescopic view of society through the mechanics of belief: why we lie, why we believe, and how, if at all, the acts differ. Through wild tales of cons and marks, Raden examines not only how lies actually work, but also why they work, from the evolutionary function of deception to what it reveals about our own. In her previous book, Stoned, Raden asked, “What makes a thing valuable?” In The Truth About Lies, she asks “What makes a thing real?” With cutting wit and a deft touch, Raden untangles the relationship of truth to lie, belief to faith, and deception to propaganda. The Truth About Lies will change everything you thought you knew about what you know, and whether you ever really know it.
