Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A never before seen look into the daily life of someone living with chronic illness, specifically Crohn's disease, colitis and an ostomy. A road map of the emotional reality that takes place in the mind of yourself or your loved ones who bear these burdens. It's a gripping story about overcoming adversity and fearlessly facing unbelievable odds. Austin hid his illness and his life from everyone. The destruction and triumph that this caused, form the stories that fill this book. His experiences and trials are "Next Level" even for Crohnies and Ostomates, and have lessons for all of us. Austin speaks in a no-nonsense tone that pulls not punches. He is fed up with a medical community that has abandoned patient care and lifestyle management for people suffering from chronic illness. Austin scrambled for answers. The auto-immunity and chronic side of these illnesses made life emotionally devastating. He sought help in the naturopathic and homeopathic arena at the Riorden Clinic in Wichita, Ks. The hollistic care that was experienced and discovered, helped Austin take some control over an otherwise uncontrollable life. Even after these steps were taken, the emotional struggles still needed addressed. The only way out of the reclusive, depressing and anxious life is by sharing your story and realizing you aren't the only one dealing with such deep loneliness. You will find in this book a key to understanding and accepting suffering in your life. Your vantage point will be forever changed once you look through Austin's eyes. He believes this world is very good and worth living. Everyone has a story to tell and we can all learn from stories. Check out The Ostomy Guy's podcast on Google, Apple, Spotify and YouTube for more stories like this one. This is a story that will give you hope. You will not only be inspired after hearing Austin's story, you will want to be better at everything you do. You'll want a copy to keep and a copy to give to friends. A book for every home and a story worth reading again and again.

Book My Story

Download or read book My Story written by Frances Smith and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wrought by a childhood replete with trying circumstances and telling experiences (conveyed in Frances Smith's earlier book), and in tandem with resultant beliefs and attitudes she held toward herself and the world she was about to enter, the commencement of legal adulthood also removed any buttressing protection minority provided. Too many confused and self-critical assessments would ill-serve this demoiselle. In time, those same assessments would transform into extremely harmful and life-threatening situations. Surviving would become a lifestyle for the author, which would shape not only her world but that of those whom she held most dear. Ms. Smith's adulthood was remarkable because of the duality consistently displayed between her professional abilities and achievements and her personal descent into depreciation and decline. This descent was birthed by a mentally imprinted sense of desperation inseminated by prevailing dogma, the flawed conclusions of youthful minds, and unattended hurts and breaches. This tale is a cautionary account. Similar to the brutality of a gauntlet one is forced to run, a few key choices in the life of this young woman vaulted her into a sort of awful test. Not failing would require overcoming deeply rooted beliefs and fears that sucked her backward in a downward spiral. Failing the test would mean no escape from an existence that was the antithesis of living. Scores of challenges the author faced in her adult life were nearly fantastical, so grueling and perverse were they. If any hope of victory existed, this woman's constitution must contain an extraordinary will to persevere and survive. Would the author discover that quality within herself, or would defeat ultimately claim her? This narrative relates what could be argued as the predictable plunge the author made into the depths, given the memories, messages, and conclusions in which she was cloaked as she debuted as an adult, already wearied from her life up to that point. This tale also abounds in efforts equally mesmerizing, which the principal made to try to save herself. There is no way to imagine the unspeakable journey that was Ms. Smith's adulthood. This story is simply a must read.

Book A Little Me

Download or read book A Little Me written by Amy Roloff and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the star of TLC’s hit reality show Little People BIG World comes a revelatory memoir that will inspire those who have long followed the Roloff’s and newcomers alike. “A Little Me by Amy Roloff is a feel-good, inspirational memoir about a remarkable woman who addresses challenges head-on with a positive outlook and deep faith.” – New York Journal of Books Whatever package you come in, life isn’t easier or harder than another’s because you are different physically. There may be more challenges, but still, everyone has challenges. “God doesn’t make mistakes.” For Amy Roloff, star of TLC’s hit reality show Little People, BIG World, her father’s words would repeatedly serve as an anchor, reminding her of her inherent worth and purpose, whenever feelings of insecurity and inadequacy surfaced and threatened to overwhelm her. In A Little Me, Amy shares what it was like growing up with achondroplasia dwarfism, how she struggled to overcome obstacles both physical and emotional—navigating the average-size world as a little person, dealing with a serious illness as a young girl, bullying, and issues of body image and unachievable beauty ideals—while learning, as we all must, to accept herself for who she is. Finally allowing herself to be vulnerable enough to open up to others, she learned that it’s worth risking possible rejection for a chance at genuine relationships. Amy’s memoir is an inspiring and at times heart-wrenching account of resilience and the strength of the human spirit to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Book Radical Remission

Download or read book Radical Remission written by Kelly A. Turner, PhD and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her New York Times bestseller, Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, Dr. Kelly A. Turner, founder of the Radical Remission Project, uncovers nine factors that can lead to a spontaneous remission from cancer—even after conventional medicine has failed. While getting her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, Dr. Turner, a researcher, lecturer, and counselor in integrative oncology, was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical (or unexpected) remission—when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she embarked on a ten month trip around the world, traveling to ten different countries to interview fifty holistic healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques. Her research continued by interviewing over 100 Radical Remission survivors and studying over 1000 of these cases. Her evidence presents nine common themes that she believes may help even terminal patients turn their lives around.

Book Guts

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Nylen
  • Publisher : Random House
  • Release : 2009-05-26
  • ISBN : 1588368653
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Guts written by Robert Nylen and published by Random House. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This is a memoir: a package of boasts, false modesty, flawed memories, dropped names, outright errors, and embarrassing disclosures that I think are pretty neat–but may appall you, if you’re squeamish or have an orderly turn of mind.”—Robert Nylen The thing is, Robert Nylen should have died several times in 1968. He was a goner in 2006, and 2007 as well, and yet he survived through a combination of dumb luck and sheer perseverance. Of course, as you read these words, he’s already bit the dust. But let’s not dwell on that. A self-confessed reckless jerk, Nylen spent the last four years of his life grappling with Big Diseases (cancer, diabetes), an astonishing twelve broken bones, and ten surgeries. His lifetime total is twenty-four fractures, most of which resulted from a flagrant refusal to act his age–or anyone’s age, for that matter. And yet Guts is not a mere chronicle of injuries but a sharp and wry meditation on American Manhood. Growing up in suburbia in the ’50s and ’60s, with a father who had worked on the atom bomb, Nylen was an immature kid who was always eager for attention. In college he became a slovenly, hard-partying fraternity brother who barely graduated. Then came the realization that he was going to have to go to Vietnam. A dramatic tour of duty came to an abrupt end with multiple wounds, leading him to grow up fast. It was then that he started the real risky business: business itself. Some ventures succeeded and some failed. He exercised feverishly and often displayed a complete lack of common sense. And then he got sick, inevitably, with colon cancer. Hilarious, moving, and riveting, this is the life of a tough guy as seen through the scope of a national obsession with toughness. Whether he was facing Viet Cong as a platoon leader in Vietnam or doing battle with venture capitalists at home, Nylen never backed down from a good fight–and he had the many scars to prove it. In Guts, Robert Nylen writes with humor and precision about the travails–and glory–of manhood.

Book I Healed My Crohn s Colitis

Download or read book I Healed My Crohn s Colitis written by Robert A. Stickles and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2011-12-27 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of my life stories and beliefs and how I healed myself using thought and the art of meditation. There was a time when I was so sick that I felt hopeless and fed up. I was not finding answers to any questions I had about my Crohns Colitis. When I got the doctors final recommendation that the only cure was removing part of my intestine and replacing it with something manmade (a colostomy bag), I realized I had to take a stand. I asked myself why my body was fighting me. I asked what in my brain was telling my body to attack itself. These are the questions that seemed to have no answer because I had no one to ask. I felt alone. Twenty years have gone by now and using meditation I have learned that the answers are within me. I am in the right time of my life and everything has come together to a point where I truly understand what I have done and can share it with you. Each one of these stories shows the power of thoughts of healing. Each story leaves you to ask the important questions of yourself so that you can find your own answers. This book is about healing from the inside-out. In this book I share my stories and a simple meditation technique that you can follow on your path to empower yourself. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have always been homeless people in the United States, but their plight has only recently stirred widespread public reaction and concern. Part of this new recognition stems from the problem's prevalence: the number of homeless individuals, while hard to pin down exactly, is rising. In light of this, Congress asked the Institute of Medicine to find out whether existing health care programs were ignoring the homeless or delivering care to them inefficiently. This book is the report prepared by a committee of experts who examined these problems through visits to city slums and impoverished rural areas, and through an analysis of papers written by leading scholars in the field.

  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book Unplugged written by William H. Colby and published by Amacom Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Medical technology has helped mankind conquer tuberculosis, polio, and countless other once certain-death diseases. It has given us hope against cancer and AIDS, allowed heart and brain surgeries that have saved untold numbers of lives, and delivered us from the pain and crippling legacy of injury. Medical technology, it seems, is a never-ending string of miracles. But it is also a double-edged sword. More often than not, death today happens because of a decision to stop doing something, or to not do it at all. As the tragic life and death of Terri Schiavo so poignantly illustrated, universal definitions of life, death, nature, and many other concepts are elusive at best. Unplugged addresses the fundamental questions of the right-to-die debate, and discusses how the medical advances that bring so much hope and healing have also helped to create today's dilemma. This compelling book explores recent high-profile cases, including that of Mrs. Schiavo, and illuminates the complex legal, ethical, medical, and deeply personal issues of a debate that ultimately affects us all. Compassionate and beautifully written, the book helps readers understand the implications of current laws and proposed legislation, various medical options (including hospice), and the typical end-of-life decisions we all must face in order to make informed decisions for ourselves and our loved ones."
