Book A Brief Introduction to Dispersion Relations

Download or read book A Brief Introduction to Dispersion Relations written by José Antonio Oller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text offers a brief introduction to the dispersion relations as an approach to calculate S-matrix elements, a formalism that allows one to take advantage of the analytical structure of scattering amplitudes following the basic principles of unitarity and causality. First, the case of two-body scattering is considered and then its contribution to other processes through final-state interactions is discussed. For two-body scattering amplitudes, the general expression for a partial-wave amplitude is derived in the approximation where the crossed channel dynamics is neglected. This is taken as the starting point for many interesting nonperturbative applications, both in the light and heavy quark sector. Subsequently crossed channel dynamics is introduced within the equations for calculating the partial-wave amplitudes. Some applications based on methods that treat crossed-channel dynamics perturbatively are discussed too. The last part of this introductory treatment is dedicated to the further impact of scattering amplitudes on a variety of processes through final-state interactions. Several possible approaches are discussed such as the Muskhelishvili-Omnes dispersive integral equations and other closed formulae. These different formalisms are then applied in particular to the study of resonances presenting a number of challenging properties. The book ends with a chapter illustrating the use of dispersion relations in the nuclear medium for the evaluation of the energy density in nuclear matter.

Book Pion Nucleon Scattering IP 11 Volume 11

Download or read book Pion Nucleon Scattering IP 11 Volume 11 written by Robert J. Cence and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most fundamental problems in elementary particle physics is the study of the interaction of the pion meson with nucleons. It is believed that the pion meson plays a fundamental role in the description of nuclear forces and it is important, therefore, to understand the interaction of these particles. The primary method of gaining information on this interaction is through scattering experiments, and this book is concerned primarily with studies of pion-nucleon scattering at high energies. Originally published in 1969. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book Quantum Theory of Scattering

Download or read book Quantum Theory of Scattering written by Ta-you Wu and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses the broad formal aspects and applications of the quantum theory of scattering in atomic and nuclear collisions. An encyclopedic source of pioneering work, it serves as a text for students and a reference for professionals in the fields of chemistry, physics, and astrophysics. The self-contained treatment begins with the general theory of scattering of a particle by a central field. Subsequent chapters explore particle scattering by a non-central field, collisions between composite particles, the time-dependent theory of scattering, and nuclear reactions. An examination of dispersion relations concludes the text. Numerous graphs, tables, and footnotes illuminate each chapter, in addition to helpful appendixes and bibliographies.

Book Three particle Physics and Dispersion Relation Theory

Download or read book Three particle Physics and Dispersion Relation Theory written by A. V. Anisovich and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The necessity of describing three-nucleon and three-quark systems have led to a constant interest in the problem of three particles. The question of including relativistic effects appeared together with the consideration of the decay amplitude in the framework of the dispersion technique. The relativistic dispersion description of amplitudes always takes into account processes connected with the investigated reaction by the unitarity condition or by virtual transitions; in the case of three-particle processes they are, as a rule, those where other many-particle states and resonances are produced. The description of these interconnected reactions and ways of handling them is the main subject of the book.

Book Analysis of the Angular Distribution of Pion nucleon Scattering Within the Framework of the Mandelstam Representation

Download or read book Analysis of the Angular Distribution of Pion nucleon Scattering Within the Framework of the Mandelstam Representation written by Gordon Leon Kane and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented for analyzing pion-nucleon scattering data using phase shifts for the low partial waves and a closed term to represent the effect of all higher partial waves. This closed term is calculated assuming that the analytic properties of the scattering amplitude are given by the Mandelstam representation, and consequently, that a fixed energy dispersion relation is valid. Book Lectures in Scattering Theory

Download or read book Lectures in Scattering Theory written by A. G. Sitenko and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lectures in Scattering Theory discusses problems in quantum mechanics and the principles of the non-relativistic theory of potential scattering. This book describes in detail the properties of the scattering matrix and its connection with physically observable quantities. This text presents a stationary formulation of the scattering problem and the wave functions of a particle found in an external field. This book also examines the analytic properties of the scattering matrix, dispersion relations, complex angular moments, as well as the separable representation of the scattering amplitude. The text also explains the method of factorizing the potential and the two-particle scattering amplitude, based on the Hilbert-Schmidt theorem for symmetric integral equations. In investigating the problem of scattering in a three-particle system, this book notes that the inapplicability of the Lippman-Schwinger equations can be fixed by appropriately re-arranging the equations. Faddeev equations are the new equations formed after such re-arrangements. This book also cites, as an example, the scattering of a spin-1/2 particle by a spinless particle (such as the scattering of a nucleon by a spinless nucleus). This text is suitable for students and professors dealing with quantum mechanics, theoretical nuclear physics, or other fields of advanced physics.
