Download or read book The Kindergarten Children s Hour Vol 2 of 5 Classic Reprint written by Maude Cushing Nash and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kindergarten Children's Hour, Vol. 2 of 5 Let song and laughter enter into every occupation, whether it be a task or a game. Count it a privilege to live with the children, to play with them, and to see things from their point of view. Make all kinds of work seem to be play, because of the enjoyment that enters into it. This book will have accomplished its purpose if, through its suggestions, it enables you to fill the waking hours of your children with beneficial occupations, for to a child the world is a big place and his ideas are be wildered when he is left entirely to himself. The direction you will thus be enabled to give to the children's play will in a large measure determine the ideals that are to influence their later lives, at the same time helping them to meet their problems and to perform their tasks with confidence and self-reliance. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from For the Children's Hour In nearly every case it has been found necessary to adapt the stories to the immediate use of the story teller, whether kindergartner or mother. They have been shortened, and only such salient facts retained as will result in clear mental concepts, and make the stories easily told without undue taxing of the child's attention. A large place has been given to the fanciful tale, which has a direct educational value in the training of the imagination; and the accumulative repetition story, which develops the child's sense of humor, and appeals to his instinctive love of rhyme and jingle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story Hour: A Book for the Home and the Kindergarten Story-telling, like letter-writing, is going out of fashion. There are no modern Scheherezades, and the Sultans nowadays have to be amused in a different fashion. But, for that matter, a hundred poetic pastimes of leisure have fled before the relentless Hurry Demon who governs this prosaic nineteenth century. The Wandering Minstrel is gone, and the Troubadour, and the Court of Love, and the King's Fool, and the Round Table, and with them the Story-Teller. "Come, tell us a story!' It is the familiar plea of childhood. Unhappy he who has not been assailed with it again and again. Thrice miserable she who can be consigned to worse than oblivion by the scathing criticism, "She does n't know any stories!' and thrice blessed she who is recognized at a glance as a person likely to be full to the brim of them. There are few preliminaries and no formalities when the Person with a Story is found. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. MAKING THE BEST OP IT "What a dreary day this is!" said the old gray goose to the brown hen. They stood at the henhouse window and watched the falling snow. It covered every nook and corner of the farmyard. "Yes, indeed," said the brown hen; "I would be almost willing to be made into chicken pie on such a day." She had scarcely stopped talking, when the Pekin duck said fretfully: "I am dreadfully hungry." Then a little flock of speckled chickens all huddled together peeped: "And we are so thirsty!" In fact, the feathered folks in the henhouse were cross and discontented. Since the farmer's boy had fed them, early in the morning, they had been given nothing to eat or drink. Hour after hour went by. The cold winter wind howled around their house. It is no wonder that they felt deserted. The handsome white rooster, though, seemed quite as happy as usual. That is saying a great deal, for a jollier, betternatured old fellow than he never lived in a farmyard. Sunshine, rain, or snow were all the same to him. He crowed quite as lustily in stormy as in fair weather. "Well," he said, as his bright eyes glanced about the henhouse, "you all seem to be having a fit of the dumps." Nobody answerd the white rooster, but a faint cluck or two came from some hens. At once they put their heads back under their wings, as if ashamed of having spoken at all. This was quite too much for the white rooster. He stood first on one yellow foot and then on the other. He turned his head from side to side, and said: "Well, we are a lively set! Any one would think, to look in here, that we were surrouded by a band of hungry foxes." Just then a daring little bantam rooster hopped down from his perch. He strutted over to the big rooster, and said: "We are all lively...
