Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Indians of the Terraced Houses When we decided on our way to California, a few years ago, to stop off for a week in New Mexico's quaint old capital, we had, in common with most Americans, as little interest in Indians as in South Sea Islanders, and as little knowledge of them. To be sure, we remembered in a general way from our school-books that the Indian had been a troublesome thorn in the flesh of our pushing pioneers; and that the Government now has him systematically in hand under an Indian policy operated from Washington, often with great injustice to the red man, we also thought we knew from Ramona and one or two less popular romances. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first years of the twentieth century, motoring across the vast expanses west of the Mississippi was at the very least an adventure and at most an audacious stunt. As more motorists ventured forth, such travel became a curiosity and, within a few decades, commonplace. For aspiring western travelers, automobiles formed an integral part of their search for new experiences and destinations—and like explorers and thrill seekers from earlier ages, these adventurers kept records of their experiences. The scores of articles, pamphlets, and books they published, collected for the first time in Motoring West, create a vibrant picture of the American West in the age of automotive ascendancy, as viewed from behind the wheel. Documenting the very beginning of Americans’ love affair with the automobile, the pieces in this volume—the first of a planned multivolume series—offer a panorama of motoring travelers’ visions of the burgeoning West in the first decade of the twentieth century. Historian Peter J. Blodgett’s sources range from forgotten archives to company brochures to magazines such as Harper’s Monthly, Sunset, and Outing. Under headlines touting adventures in “touring,” “land cruising,” and “camping out with an automobile,” voices from motoring’s early days instruct, inform, and entertain. They chart routes through “wild landscapes,” explain the finer points of driving coast to coast in a Franklin, and occasionally prescribe “touring outfits.” Blodgett’s engaging introductions to the volume and each piece couch the writers’ commentaries within their time. As reports of the region’s challenges and pleasures stirred interest and spurred travel, the burgeoning flow of traffic would eventually and forever alter the western landscape and the westering motorist’s experience. The dispatches in Motoring West illustrate not only how the automobile opened the American West before 1909 to more and more travelers, but also how the West began to change with their arrival.

Book 21 Days to Love

    Book Details:

  • ISBN : 148172763X
  • Pages : 269 pages

Download or read book 21 Days to Love written by Marcus Tempus and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marcus Tempus is a writer based in Chicago and he had written a book about Chocolate and how some women preferred it to Sex called "Do not get between a Woman and her Chocolate". In doing the research for the book he had met Anastasia and they had agreed to go on a "Journey of Joy," and maybe fall in love. The book covers their travel experiences to Greece, Paris, London, Ireland, Marrakech and Malaysia. The travel writing is believed to be accurate and the places mentioned real. The fictional part of the book relates to the relationship that develops between Marcus and Anastasia as they become closer during their travels. A background theme is developed with Marcus who had recently fallen in love and it had changed his life. The relationship had not developed as he would have liked so he had sought the help of some spiritual advisors, and even consulted a Voodoo High Priestess, in order to understand why he had fallen in love so strongly and why he remained emotionally lost in this world of unrequited love. The advisors had told him that in a previous life, several hundred years ago, he had been a warrior named "Malin" and he had fallen in love with "Alesia" and that they were "Soul Mates" destined to meet again. Most of the advisors had told him that when he had fallen in love this was Malin and Alesia trying to connect in another life. The book explores the difficulty Marcus is experiencing in trying to reconcile all of these emotional and spiritual feelings with his no nonsense logical brain. He is left with the main questions, "Is Anastasia the latest visitation of Alesia and is she the Soul Mate that he has been seeking all along?"
