Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: teacher Professor Ernst-Joachim Ivers to whom I still owe many insights 20 years after the end of his working life. This English edition is not an unedited translation of the German edition of 1990. The text has been substantially revised in some chapters, taking into account the literature published in the mean time. I wish to thank Dr.-Ing. H. Finken, Freiberg, who has prepared the translation from German into English with deep scientific understanding and in close contact with the author. I also wish to express my gratitude to Chapman & Hall for their support to this project without which the English edition could not have been published. Dr.-Ing. habil. C. Bernhardt Freiberg 1 Position, tasks and structure of particle size analysis Today the concept of particle size analysis is that of a special field of particle measurement technology, which in turn is part of particulate technology. This classification has developed over the last 20 years; it is the result of a scientific integration process taking place in many industrialized countries of the world. In recent years, the meaning and mutual connection of the related concepts as well as the tasks of the scientific disciplines designated by them have been the subject of intensive discussion which, however, has not led to a generally accepted terminology.

Download or read book Powder Sampling and Particle Size Determination written by T. Allen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-09 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Powder technology is a rapidly expanding technology and nowhere more than in particle characterization. There has been an explosion of new particle measuring techniques in the past ten year particularly in the field of on-line measurement. One of the main aims of this book is to bring the reader up-to-date with current practices. One important area of interest is the improvements in on-line light scattering instruments and the introduction of ultrasonic on-line devices. Another is the introduction of on-line microscopy, which permits shape analysis in conjunction with particle sizing.Schools of powder technology are common in Europe and Japan but the importance of this subject has only recently been recognised in America with the emergence of the Particle Research Centre (PERC) at the University of Florida in Gainsville.- Details all the latest developments in powder technology - Written by established authority on powder technology- A comprehensive text covering all aspects of powder technology and handling of particulate solids including characterization, handling and applications
Download or read book Practical Pharmaceutical Chemistry written by A. H. Beckett and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Fourth Edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to take account of international developments in pharaceutical chemistry and to maintain the position of Practical Pharmaceutical Chemistry as the leading University textbook in the field of pharaceutical analysis and quality control. Part 2 deals with physical techniques of analysis for more advanced courses. It gives a broad coverage of the most widely used techniques in quantative chromatography. The treatmentof spectroscopy and radiopharmaceuticals has also been increased. Thre are additional chapters on the contribution and role of physical methods of analysis in the various stages of drug development; and a series of workshop-style exercises, illustrating the application of spectroscopic techniques in structural elucidation and verification of identity. Users of the two volumes will welcome the internationalisation of the text, with examples based on drugs and dosage forms that are widespread and in commun use in human medicine in Britain, continental Europe and North America. Additionally there is some reference to veterinary pharmaceuticals where they provide appropriate examples.

Download or read book Enlargement and Compaction of Particulate Solids written by Nayland G. Stanley-Wood and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enlargement and Compaction of Particulate Solids describes the methodology used in the compaction and size enlargement of particulate solids. The discussions are organized into the following topics: characterization of powders and granules before and after compaction; mixing; shear testing; fluidized bed granulation; mechanisms of size enlargement and compaction; and instrumentation of industrial presses and processes. This text is comprised of 12 chapters; the first of which deals with the measurement of size and shape of individual particles or collections of individual particles, both spherical and non-spherical. Attention then turns to particle characterization by size, shape, and surface for contacted particles. The application of nitrogen isotherms Types II and IV and mercury intrusion to compacted solids is highlighted. The chapters that follow focus on powder mixing; flow and handling of solids; and pharmaceutical granulation and compaction. The basic mechanisms of size enlargement are reviewed in relation to three common methods of granulation: pan granulation, fluidized bed granulation, and spray drying or prilling. The remaining chapters describe the mechanisms of compaction, compact characterization, instrumentation of tablet machines, compaction of ceramics, and isostatic pressing and compacting techniques. This book is intended primarily for students and chemical engineers as well as physicists, powder and pharmaceutical technologists, ceramacists, and metallurgists.

Download or read book Analysis and Prediction of Soil Behaviour written by T. S. Nagaraj and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1994 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book Brings Out The Possibilities Of Generalizations Of Behaviour Of Soils And Hence Of Predicting The Required Engineering Properties Without Elaborate Testing. We Recognize That A Single Approach Cannot Be Evolved For All Soil Types And Hence The Necessity For Classifying Soils Into Different Categories And To Use Appropriate Model For Each. First Of All, Based On Mechanism Of Stress Transfer And Interaction Between The Phases, Two Obvious Classes, The Fine Grained And Coarse-Grained Soils Have Been Differentiated. The Discussions Bring Out That Because Of Identical Mode Of Stress Transfer, The Mechanical Behaviour I.E., Compressibility, Shear Strength Relations, Permeability Variations Etc. Can Be Generalized For All Fine Grained Soils, Enabling The Prediction Of Behaviour Of Such Soils With Just The Knowledge Of Certain State And Index Properties. The Sequence Of Discussion Is On The Characterization Of Specific Soil States And Prediction Of Proportion Starting From The Ideal Saturated Uncemented Soils, Both Normally And Over Consolidated, Cemented Saturated Soils And Partly Saturated Soils. In Dealing With The Behaviour Of Coarse Grained Soils, The Importance Of Microfabric And The Difficulties In Possible Generalizations Are Discussed. Perhaps The Unique Feature Of This Book Is That The Division Of The Chapters Is Based On Different Soil States, All The Mechanical Behaviours Being Discussed Under Each Soil State. The Book Will Be Of Interest To Both Academicians And Practising Engineers, Researchers And Postgraduate Students. It Would Serve As A Textbook For Undergraduate Students With Prior Knowledge Of Basic Soil Mechanics.
