Book Glimpses of Grace for Jewish Eyes

Download or read book Glimpses of Grace for Jewish Eyes written by Charles Tarrell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian faith, in its original form, was a very Jewish phenomenon. The first book in the Christian Scriptures refers to the Jewish Scriptures 125 times. The last book of the Christian Bible is famous for its countless references to the Jewish Bible. But, the most Jewish book in the Christian Bible is, of course, the Book of Hebrews, an anonymous first century book addressed to Jews and packed with Jewish history and Old Testament quotations. The heart of the Christian faith is a revolutionary concept: grace. The Christian doctrine of salvation by the grace of God is what makes Christianity unique among the religions of the world. The authentic Christian message is the gospel of the grace of God. According to the New Testament, one of the primary attributes of God is grace. In Glimpses of Grace For Jewish Eyes Tarrell explores the seven occurrences of the word grace in the Book of Hebrews. Here are seven crucial issues for every Christian, all seven seen through the lens of grace.

Book Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament

Download or read book Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament written by Gleason L. Archer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-01-26 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "New Testament writers drew heavily from Old Testament Scriptures as the demonstrated the fulfillment of the plan and promises of God in Christ. The New Testament is filled with such quotations, but their use raises several problems. How do we account for the occasions when the New Testament writers seem to take liberties with the Hebrew text, or when the wording of other New Testament citations of the Old Testament is closer to the Greek Septuagint (LXX) than to the original Hebrew? [The authors] have undertaken a systematic study of the use of Old Testament quotations in the New Testament. In three parallel columns for ready reference and study they have affixed the Masoretic Hebrew, Septuagint, and Greek New Testament texts pertinent to each quotation. A fourth column-- the largest segment of the valulable language tool--provides a critical commentary of orthographic, linguistic, and textual notes on the 312 entries. In addition, the authors include the results of a statistical survey in which every quotation is assigned to one of six levels to determine its degree of difficulty regarding the faithfulness of the New Testament to the Old Testament quotation. Helpful introductory material, including complete cross-references to the tool in both Old and New Testament order, make the work invaluable to scholars and students alike" -- BOOK JACKET from Moody Press.

Download or read book The Grace of God written by Andy Stanley and published by . This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Grace. It's what we crave most when our guilt is exposed. It's the very thing we are hesitant to extend when we are confronted with the guilt of others--especially when their guilt has robbed us of something we consider valuable. Therein is the struggle, the struggle for grace. It's this struggle that makes grace more story than doctrine. It's the struggle that reminds us that grace is bigger than compassion or forgiveness. That struggle is the context for both. When we are on the receiving end, grace is refreshing. When it is required of us, it is often disturbing. But when correctly applied, it seems to solve just about everything. This struggle is not new; it has been going on since the beginning." --Andy Stanley We find in the pages of Scripture that the stories found there often mirror our own stories, and that we too need the very thing we do not deserve: the grace of God. From the beginning, the church has had an uneasy relationship with grace. The gravitational pull is always toward graceless religion. The odd thing is that when you read the New Testament, the only thing Jesus stood against consistently was graceless religion. The only group he attacked relentlessly was graceless religious leaders. Even now as you think about grace, there might be a little voice in your head whispering, "It can't be that easy " "What about obedience?" "What about disobedience?" "What about repeated misbehavior?" "What about bad habits?" "What about justice?" "What about repentance?" It's this tension that makes grace so slippery. But that's the beauty and the truth of grace. We don't deserve it. We can't earn it. It can't be qualified. But God gives it to us anyway because he loves us unconditionally. The story of grace is your story. And as you are about to discover grace plays a larger role than you imagine.

Download or read book The Book of Hebrews written by M.L. Andreasen and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Hebrews appeared during a critical time in the history of the early church. The destruction of Jerusalem was impending and many of the believers believed the end of the world was near. However, Paul warned the church against entertaining a false hope, for he knew they were misguided with their beliefs. It was a critical time—the apostles were passing away, and soon the church would be left alone. It was in this hour of perplexity that the book of Hebrews appeared with needed light and comfort. The people needed a clear conception of the work Christ was doing for them in the courts above, and this book explained the delay in His return, and restored their wavering faith. The conditions and problems which the church then had to meet are not unlike those facing the church today. While the early church was living at the time of the fulfillment of the first part of Christ’s prophecy—the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the temple, we are living at the time of the fulfillment of the second part of the prophecy—the coming of the Lord Jesus in the clouds of heaven. As there was misconceptions of Christ’s work in the sanctuary then, so there are those now who likewise err. There is as much need today of a thorough study of the Scriptures as there was then, and more so. The book of Hebrews was a great factor in stabilizing the apostolic church in the crisis hour before the fall of Jerusalem, and it is hoped that a discussion of the mighty themes of the book of Hebrews will be of some help to the church of God today. All need to have their eyes fastened on our great High Priest and the work He is doing in the sanctuary above. And may it be the blessed privilege of many with “boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.” (Heb. 10:19, 20.) This was the prayer and hope of the author of Hebrews, and this also is the hope of the author of this volume.

However, well-meaning believers often struggle to follow Jesus, unaware their views are too legalistic, licentious, or individualistic. How can churches and Christians develop a healthy, successful path to disciple-making? In this second edition of Gospel-Centered Discipleship, Jonathan Dodson presents an effective, Spirit-led model for sanctification. Reminding readers that real discipleship is imperfect yet transformational, Dodson encourages Christians to engage more authentically with others as they grow in faith. Download or read book Look to Jesus written by Margy Hill and published by . This book was released on 2013-03-29 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Look to Jesus... three words that are so very simple, yet so deeply profound. In these three words we find the motto of the entire New Testament. In these three words we discover the secret of a vibrant and passionate life with Christ. But what does it mean to look to Jesus? That is the large and looming question we ask the Lord to answer for us as we embark upon this journey in our study through the Book of Hebrews. The Greek word, aphorao, used here with our English word, looking, means to turn the eyes away from other things and fix them on something. This is the only instance of this word in the entire New Testament! Literally translated it means "looking off," looking away from other objects to One, to only One, and looking on that One with a steady, fixed and intent gaze. And that object we are to look to is a living Person, and that person is Jesus Christ, the Son of God! We are intentionally to look away from those objects which would capture our attention to focus our eyes upon Jesus. Our eyes are to be directed upon Him, looking to Jesus from everything, in everything and for everything. Are you ready to dig deeper, to find out for yourself what it means to look to Jesus? It will require a looking away from every other object that would divide or compete for your attention over the next ten weeks to focus on Him alone. As you look to Jesus to the exclusion of everything else you will be forever changed, for Scripture tells that as you and I behold Him we can't help but become like Him, and as we become like Him we can't help but reflect His glory to a world that desperately needs to see Him. As you look to Him, you will find Him and as you find Him you will fall deeply in love with Him. Make it your personal prayer today and in the weeks to follow to answer this question for yourself: Jesus ...what does it mean to look to you? Turn your eyes upon Jesus Look full in His wonderful face And the things of earth will grow strangely dim In the light of His glory and grace
