Book Terabit Rate Transmission Using Optical Frequency Comb Sources

Download or read book Terabit Rate Transmission Using Optical Frequency Comb Sources written by Jörg Pfeifle and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy-efficient Tbit/s optical interconnects are key elements for future communication systems. Three novel optical frequency comb sources are investigated, which have the potential of being integrated in chip-scale Tbit/s transmitters. Such frequency combs provide a large number of carriers. The equidistance of the comb lines helps to minimize spectral guard bands. For each type of comb source, coherent data transmission experiments show the potential for Tbit/s data transmission rates. Book Chip scale optical frequency comb sources for terabit communications

Download or read book Chip scale optical frequency comb sources for terabit communications written by Marin-Palomo, Pablo and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To keep up with the ever-increasing data transmission speed needs, data center interconnects are scaling up to provide multi-Tbit/s connectivity. These links require a high number of WDM channels, while the associated transceivers should be compact and energy efficient. Scaling the number of channels, however, is still limited by the lack of adequate optical sources. In this book, we investigate novel chip-scale frequency comb generators as multi-wavelength light sources for Tbit/s WDM links.

Book All Optical Signal Processing

Download or read book All Optical Signal Processing written by Stefan Wabnitz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-11 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the art of optical signal processing technologies and devices. It presents breakthrough solutions for enabling a pervasive use of optics in data communication and signal storage applications. It presents presents optical signal processing as solution to overcome the capacity crunch in communication networks. The book content ranges from the development of innovative materials and devices, such as graphene and slow light structures, to the use of nonlinear optics for secure quantum information processing and overcoming the classical Shannon limit on channel capacity and microwave signal processing. Although it holds the promise for a substantial speed improvement, today’s communication infrastructure optics remains largely confined to the signal transport layer, as it lags behind electronics as far as signal processing is concerned. This situation will change in the near future as the tremendous growth of data traffic requires energy efficient and fully transparent all-optical networks. The book is written by leaders in the field.

Book Photonic Applications for Radio Systems Networks

Download or read book Photonic Applications for Radio Systems Networks written by Fabio Cavaliere and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This hands-on, practical new resource provides optical network designers with basic but necessary information about radio systems air interface and radio access network architecture, protocols, and interfaces, using 5G use cases as relevant example. The book introduces mobile network designers to the transmission modeling techniques for the design of a radio access optical network. The main linear and non-linear propagation effects in optical fiber are covered. The book introduces mobile network designers to the optical technologies used in digital and analog radio access networks, such as optical amplifiers and transmitters, and describes different deployment scenarios, including point-to-point fiber systems, wavelength-division multiplexing systems, and passive optical networks. New integrated photonic technologies for optical switching are also discussed. The book illustrates the principles of optical beamforming and explains how optical technologies can be used to provide accurate phase and frequency control of antenna elements. The new architecture of the optical transport network, driven by the new, challenging requirements that 5G poses in terms of high capacity, high energy efficiency, low latency and low cost is discussed. The use of photonic devices to perform tasks as radio-frequency generation and beamforming, with improved accuracy and cost compared to traditional electronic systems, especially when moving to mm-waves is also explored. Readers also learn the replacement of electric interconnect systems with higher speed and more energy efficient optical lines to perform more effectively computationally demanding baseband processing in 5G. All presented propagation models can be implemented in a spreadsheet, in order to provide the designer with simple rules of thumbs for network planning.
