Soft Rain is confident that her family will not have to move, because they have just planted corn for the next harvest but soon thereafter, soldiers arrive to take nine-year-old, Soft Rain, and her mother to walk the Trail of Tears, leaving the rest of her family behind. Because Soft Rain knows some of the white man's language, she soon learns that they must travel across rivers, valleys, and mountains. These haikus are like mirrors reflecting the complexity of the human experience most succinctly and poignantly. "Poems from the Heart" is not just a collection of poems; it is an invitation to slow down, observe the world around you, and savor the beauty in simplicity. It is a reminder that even during our busy lives, there are moments of grace and wonder waiting to be discovered if we take the time to look. It is a celebration of the profound impact that a few carefully chosen words can have on our hearts and minds.

Book Just the Story of Two Wings A Lakota Plains Indian

Download or read book Just the Story of Two Wings A Lakota Plains Indian written by Valerie A. Lancaster and published by Beaten Track Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am a North American Lakota Indian and live on the edge of the Great Plains, where the prairie joins with tall grasslands and where wide valleys and dense woodlands can be found. I was born in the shadow of the Black Hills, a sacred place for my people and those of our kind. We were a part of nature and moved with ease across the land. All life was precious and we believed in the love of the Great Spirit. We honoured our Mother the Earth and loved her creatures as brothers. We looked to the rivers with the same respect that we had for the land and we tried to treat all men as equal, for all things are connected. We knew the flame which burns within is the true person whom we are and how our bodies only exist, while we walk on this Earth-plane. Our spirit is the part which journeys on. It can never die and has travelled through many lives, in many shapes and forms . . . and now moves in this being which is I. My story is one which you may care to read - a story of those who lived long ago. Our people knew well of the Natural Laws and followed the teachings passed down through Tribal Elders, who openly shared their knowledge of life here and beyond. I am, I have been - and I always will be. When my earth body dies my spirit will again fly free and one day will hopefully be able to revisit this world, to talk with those of like-minds. I am the Spirit within. I am the part of you that can touch the stars and tread the ocean, feel the silence and speak the thought, without me - all is nought. I am the Spirit within. Inspirational Story and Verse from “Just Poems”

Book Windows

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Doherty
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2023-02-14
  • ISBN : 1669866718
  • Pages : 97 pages

Download or read book Windows written by Paul Doherty and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-02-14 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I decided on the title ‘windows” because each poem came to me in a quick burst of energy. The way fresh air hits you when you open a window. Each poem is a window into my soul. You get to feel the emotion as I was experiencing it. I hope you can relate to them in some way. Most of them were about people or situations in my life. Some are just ideas from my imagination. I am not a college educated, literary scholar. I’m just a blue collar guy with an over active imagination. When I get an idea, if it is meant to happen, it just flows out of me. Generally, each poem takes 30 to 60 minutes to compose. Many of them are imperfect. For the most part, I have left them in their original form. The spiritual section portrays the highs and lows of my spiritual journey. The romance section is either the expression of my feelings for someone I cared for, or the idea of what I desire for myself. The miscellaneous section is just that. It is a collection of ideas that don’t fit one of the two primary categories. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
