Book The Mighty Head

  • Pages : 70 pages

Download or read book The Mighty Head written by Uditi Mishra and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-12 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Mighty Head” by Uditi Mishra is solely based on a teenagers life who had a lot of challenges and obstacles thrown her way while she confronted baldness at the age of 11. This book helps shatter all the stigmas that are present in the society and which give people a hard time in order to confront their true identity. The society is a place where people are expected to act a certain way and look a certain way if not then they are never accepted as a whole. While Uditi writes this book she deals with all the issues that she faced growing up and explains to people how it’s ok to be ok in your own skin and how it is not a requirement to perceive yourself based on what others think you should look like or act like. She also talks a lot about Alopecia as a disease and how people who are friends with someone who has a disease which is visible should talk to not make it awkward or uncomfortable for the other person. The name “the Mighty Head” originated from Uditi Mishra’s Ted talk where she for the first time felt confident in talking about her Alopecia and this title means a lot to her as being a bald girl has been difficult and knowing that stepping foot outside the house and having people stare at you or even ask you questions about your disease is scary because even when you don’t try to draw any attention to yourself you still end up doing that because you are a girl and you are bald. Therefore “mighty head” signifies how I have felt with a lot of unwanted attention and turned it into something positive.

Book Madame Badobedah

Download or read book Madame Badobedah written by Sophie Dahl and published by Candlewick Press. This book was released on 2024-09-17 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Madame Badobedah? Mabel sets out to prove that an eccentric new hotel guest is really a supervillain in this witty storybook about an intergenerational friendship. There’s a strange new guest at the Mermaid Hotel — a very old lady with a growly voice, bags stuffed with jewelry and coins and curiosities, and a beady-eyed pet tortoise. Mabel, whose parents run the hotel, is suspicious. Who is this “Madame Badobedah” (it rhymes with "Oo la la") who has come to stay indefinitely and never has any visitors? To find out, Mabel puts on her spy costume and observes the new guest. Conclusion? She must be a secret supervillain hiding out from the law. The grown-ups think Madame Badobedah is a bit rude — and sad — but when she invites “dahlink” Mabel for a cup of forbidden tea and a game of pirates, the two begin a series of imaginary adventures together, and Mabel realizes that first impressions can sometimes be very wrong. Conjuring two quirky heroines that young readers will love, Sophie Dahl adds her talented voice to a grand tradition of books that celebrate the alliance of the old and young in the face of humdrum adults, while Lauren O’Hara’s illustrations are as packed with intriguing details as Madame Badobedah’s suitcases.

Book The Insightful Leader

Download or read book The Insightful Leader written by Carlann Fergusson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Insightful Leader is the secret formula for claiming your best leadership and using it to achieve unlimited success. Traditional leadership coaching asks leaders to substitute ineffective behaviors with alternatives, without addressing the underlying internal beliefs that reinforce the old behaviors. After months of successfully trying to change, a leader may suddenly face stressors at work—a looming deadline or a difficult negotiation—that trigger counterproductive behavior, resulting in guilt, shame, and frustration. The Insightful Leader first helps readers to recognize ineffective behaviors that may be connected to one or more of ten "superpowers," or overused strengths. Readers embark on a step-by-step process, identifying their superpowers and understanding the strengths of these superpowers as well as when their overuse may cause them to be perceived as egotistical or manipulative. Having deepened their understanding of their superpowers, leaders then use them as a catalyst to discover adversity they may have faced in their past. The book guides them to uncover survival beliefs held over from these experiences and to reprogram them such that they no longer trigger self-destructive habits but instead focus on recent successes. Finally, tips are provided to help leaders to successfully sustain this transformation.

  • Pages : 355 pages

Download or read book Dear Humanism written by David Yun and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear post-9/11 Terrorist: Thanks for the Michael Moore footage--the cry against the shock and awe of four more years in the Oval Office. Confirmed is secrecy in the brightest room of the world: never more than 'the secret domain of feces' as what psychoanalysis designates, not so very different from the prototype in a millionaire's bathroom. Perhaps is he an honest soothsayer though he too is a millionaire? There are people, people who are sick at the cocksureness of a cowboy President, assimilating the moralizing posture of trust. It strikes you without warning on the back of the head: the inward nausea, the obtuse feeling about the inhuman character of 'American optimism' that kills. The point is not the cry against particular individuals, not even the President, the sworn-in killer: but the whole climate that makes us dancing to its tune. Now virtually everyone is a post-9/11 terrorist, which America must live optimistically. I have been a part of it too, either without or with fully knowing it, to the same degree that everyone is, thinking and believing that I am different, and no part of it. I am not exactly the dream of an existence without shame. If you are disillusioned and discharged by the latest political drama; its object unleashed in Christian anger of righteousness to the cathartic effect of the 9/11 terror, if you think you are the only pebble unsunned in the beach, do not wait. You will be picked up no sooner than the philanthropic emotion dries up: hence, the call of Dear Humanism.

Book Crazy Is My Superpower

Download or read book Crazy Is My Superpower written by A. J. Mendez and published by Crown. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times Bestseller Recently retired WWE superstar AJ Mendez Brooks is a powerhouse—strong, quirky, and totally confident. But that wasn’t always the case. With humor and tremendous heart, she opens up for the first time about her harrowing struggle to understand her demons and the diagnosis that helped her gain control over her life. Everything I was told should be my greatest insecurities and weaknesses, everything that I’ve been labeled—SHORT, NERDY, SKINNY, WEAK, IMPULSIVE, UGLY, TOMBOY, POOR, REBEL, LOUD, FREAK, CRAZY—turned out to be my greatest strengths. I didn’t become successful in spite of them. I became successful because of them. Growing up AJ was a quiet girl trying to act “normal” when she felt anything but. As her family struggled with drug addiction, poverty, and mental illness, she found escape through comic books and video games, and was inspired by the tough and unconventional female characters. It wasn’t until she discovered pro wrestling that she learned superheroes could be real. Determined to become the superhero she’d always admired, AJ trained and sacrificed for years to achieve her dream of wrestling professionally. Yet she quickly faced industry pressure to play the role of the damsel in distress and to dress more provocatively to cater to male fans. But she fought back and created an ass-kicking alter ego that was a genuine representation of herself: nerdy, enthusiastic, and a little bit crazy. With humor and tremendous heart, AJ opens up for the first time about her harrowing struggle to understand her demons and the mental illness diagnosis that helped her gain control over her life. What most people view as a hardship, AJ embraced as inspiration for her superhero persona, shattering the stigma attached to mental illness. Charting her journey from a scrappy girl in an unstable home to an empowered wrestling champion, Crazy Is My Superpower is an unflinchingly honest story and brave confessional about her long road to self-acceptance.
