Clark Farr at his best with this Science Fiction thriller that pits the intelligence and prowess of a young man who finds himself the object of a diabolical experiment. He (the Viper) must find his way out and must recover his original identity to discover who he is and why he has been taken galaxies away from his original home... "You're sedated," Viper thought. "That means you won't be able to move. It won't stop you. Think! They can only keep you for so long...before you find a way out. WAKE UP!" For too long, Project Viper's world has been controlled by captors who keep everything, including his freedom, just out of reach. The powerful, scientific Project knows disturbingly little of his past, the designs behind his own creation, or what lies before him. After a daring escape, away from the protection of his asteroid prison, he collides with even bigger problems: - Viper's discontentment sharpens, proving he is more than a heartless warrior, he needs something more than a life of combat offers, yet remains powerless to find it. - A single republic spanning the known universe strains, assaulted by an army whose homeland they cannot find. - A beautiful young woman struggles, rebuilding her life after an unseen foe from the sky devastated her home world. She lost everything, except a strength many others never had-Belief. - An entire civilization hopes, unable to free itself from the grip of tyranny. Without their knowing, the solution rests with a very unlikely hero. THE VIPER PROJECT weaves a masterful tale of action, romance, and intrigue. The Project's escape goes perfectly according to plan. Everything else does not. From there, his destiny hurtles him into an unparalleled journey, challenging him in ways he would never have imagined, only to find that it's just...the beginning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Lena Sisco, a former Department of Defense Military Interrogator and U.S. Navy officer, takes the reader through the missions and personal lives of U.S. Marines who have been forward-deployed in hostile environments all across the Middle East. She shows how they use the mastery of their sniper skills to mitigate threats and negate the enemy’s ability to disrupt U.S. operations. Her book lets you feel the stress and anxiety of their operational tempo; you witness their successes and failures, their struggles, and lessons learned. Snipers are highly trained, brave, silent killers. They undergo specialized training and operate independently with little support from their parent commands, close to enemy positions. Snipers are chosen based on their marksmanship, mental stability, patience, and physical ability. They stalk the enemy, while concealed in their operational overwatches, to protect our checkpoints and convoys, and to direct action missions. Despite the renown of Chris Kyle and the extraordinary success of the book and movie American Sniper, snipers do not have lead lives of glory and fame; their lives are a struggle. Serving as a sniper requires that you do your job successfully every time, because the consequences of not being successful include the loss of innocent lives, or living with other consequences that can haunt a shooter till the day he dies. In the end, just like any other service members, they put their lives on the line – willingly – to defend our freedom and liberties, and our country.

Book Enemy Inside The Gates Snipers In Support Of Military Operations In Urbanized Terrain

Download or read book Enemy Inside The Gates Snipers In Support Of Military Operations In Urbanized Terrain written by Lt.-Colonel Jeffery E. Dearolph USMC and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world’s urban areas continue to increase in size the possibility of U. S. forces conducting military operations in urbanized terrain also increases. However, the weapon systems the U. S. procures and employs obtain maximum effectiveness in open terrain. These weapons prove less capable in urban terrain since their standoff and precision advantages suffer degradation due to buildings and the fleeting nature of enemy personnel. U. S. weaponry also causes a large amount of collateral damage that may also result in civilian casualties, which proves politically unacceptable. Potential adversaries of the U. S. realize these limitations and present a target set that proves difficult to locate and engage. The target set the enemy uses in urban terrain consists of enemy combatants mixing with non-combatants, enemy snipers, and special purpose teams... Assets the U. S. possesses that can engage elements of the enemy’s urban target set include U. S. Army and Marine Corps snipers. However, a determination on whether more snipers will effectively defeat the target set requires consideration... This monograph analyzes the contemporary operating environment to articulate the enemy’s urban target set. Next, a review of current U. S. Army and Marine Corps sniping doctrine, organization and training establishes the foundation for presenting the sniper’s capability to defeat the urban target set. In order to provide a balanced argument, other possible solutions to engaging and defeating the target set receive consideration... Research shows that the sniper company, organized at the division level, achieves the desired effect of increasing the density of sniper teams on the urban battlefield. The costs associated with the sniper company prove acceptable, as it requires minimal expenditure concerning personnel and equipment. The division sniper company will effectively counter the enemy’s urban target set without causing non-combatant casualties.

Book British Sniping Rifles since 1970

Download or read book British Sniping Rifles since 1970 written by Steve Houghton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-25 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In response to the challenge of the Soviet Dragunov self-loading rifle, the British Army adopted the 7.62mm L42A1 bolt-action sniping rifle in 1970. The L42A1 was deployed in Dhofar and Northern Ireland, but arguably saw its finest hour during the Falklands War in 1982. The harsh conditions of the South Atlantic laid bare the L42A1's inadequacies and a new company, Accuracy International, won the contract to replace the L42A1 and the PM Rifle, a world-beating revolutionary design, was adopted in 1985 as the L96A1. Progressively upgraded, the L96A1 went on to serve as the British Army's primary sniper system, being deployed in Northern Ireland, the First Gulf War, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. The L115A3, chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum, joined the L96A1 in the front line in 2008 and since 2012 has been Britain's standard issue sniping rifle. Featuring full-colour artwork and close-up photographs, this absorbing study assesses the development, combat use, impact and legacy of these three iconic British sniping weapons.

Book excerpt: The pilot of the F-16 Viper, which is the U.S. Air Force’s frontline fighter and attack aircraft, is at the pinnacle of combat aviation. Viper Force tells the story of what it takes to become an F-16 pilot and what it’s like to fly and fight the Viper in combat. Because the F-16 is a dual-purpose combat aircraft, its pilot must master two widely divergent disciplines: air-to-air flying against enemy fighters to maintain control of the air over the battle field and air-to-ground flying in support of ground forces, soldiers, and marines, in contact. The crucible for creation of the Viper pilot is the air force’s 56th Fighter Wing, the successor to World War II’s 56th Fighter Group, the legendary Zemke’s Wolpack, which also flew a fighter/attack aircraft, the P-47 Thunderbolt. Viper Force also provides an up-close and personal look at the F-16 Viper squadron at war with information on its missions, command and control in the air, and the crucially important but often overlooked maintenance and ordnance ground crew.

Book Airborne Deployment of and Recent Improvements to the Viper Counter Sniper System

Download or read book Airborne Deployment of and Recent Improvements to the Viper Counter Sniper System written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes an airborne deployment of the Viper sniper detection and counter fire system and several improvements that were incorporated after a review of comments from users of the fielded systems. The Viper sensor was flown aboard a T-34 aircraft and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Sparrow unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Infrared (IR) and visible video sequences were recorded for post processing. Algorithms for motion compensation, frame registration and target detection were then developed to run on the collected image data. No inertial attitude data were recorded and all motion compensation functions were made using image data. These experiments indicate that automatic detection of muzzle flash from an airborne platform is possible, and techniques that were developed for background estimation and false alarm reduction with a stationary sensor can apply with modifications to a moving sensor.
