Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: To have an upright cantilever structurally strong enough and at the same time as economical as possible, requires careful analysis of the supporting foundation. Paper 2: The four criteria for establishing strength data of foundations for overhead signs were (1) shapes which indicate economy, (2) foundations which can be dug with available mechanical equipment, (3) plastic, granular, and organic soils which endure and, (4) conditions which can be simulated. Paper 3: A device is described which can be used to estimate the lateral strength of soils.

Book Basics of Foundation Design

Download or read book Basics of Foundation Design written by Bengt Fellenius and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Red Book" presents a background to conventional foundation analysis and design. The text is not intended to replace the much more comprehensive 'standard' textbooks, but rather to support and augment these in a few important areas, supplying methods applicable to practical cases handled daily by practising engineers and providing the basic soil mechanics background to those methods. It concentrates on the static design for stationary foundation conditions. Although the topic is far from exhaustively treated, it does intend to present most of the basic material needed for a practising engineer involved in routine geotechnical design, as well as provide the tools for an engineering student to approach and solve common geotechnical design problems.

Book Foundation Design

Download or read book Foundation Design written by N. S. V. Kamesware Rao and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-12-30 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Foundation Design: Theory and Practice, Professor N. S. V. Kameswara Rao covers the key aspects of the subject, including principles of testing, interpretation, analysis, soil-structure interaction modeling, construction guidelines, and applications to rational design. Rao presents a wide array of numerical methods used in analyses so that readers can employ and adapt them on their own. Throughout the book the emphasis is on practical application, training readers in actual design procedures using the latest codes and standards in use throughout the world. Presents updated design procedures in light of revised codes and standards, covering: American Concrete Institute (ACI) codes Eurocode 7 Other British Standard-based codes including Indian codes Provides background materials for easy understanding of the topics, such as: Code provisions for reinforced concrete Pile design and construction Machine foundations and construction practices Tests for obtaining the design parameters Features subjects not covered in other foundation design texts: Soil-structure interaction approaches using analytical, numerical, and finite element methods Analysis and design of circular and annular foundations Analysis and design of piles and groups subjected to general loads and movements Contains worked out examples to illustrate the analysis and design Provides several problems for practice at the end of each chapter Lecture materials for instructors available on the book's companion website Foundation Design is designed for graduate students in civil engineering and geotechnical engineering. The book is also ideal for advanced undergraduate students, contractors, builders, developers, heavy machine manufacturers, and power plant engineers. Students in mechanical engineering will find the chapter on machine foundations helpful for structural engineering applications. Companion website for instructor resources: www.wiley.com/go/rao

Book The Foundation Engineering Handbook

Download or read book The Foundation Engineering Handbook written by Manjriker Gunaratne and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-01-13 with total page 625 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Great strides have been made in the art of foundation design during the last two decades. In situ testing, site improvement techniques, the use of geogrids in the design of retaining walls, modified ACI codes, and ground deformation modeling using finite elements are but a few of the developments that have significantly advanced foundation engineering in recent years. What has been lacking, however, is a comprehensive reference for foundation engineers that incorporates these state-of-the-art concepts and techniques. The Foundation Engineering Handbook fills that void. It presents both classical and state-of-the-art design and analysis techniques for earthen structures, and covers basic soil mechanics and soil and groundwater modeling concepts along with the latest research results. It addresses isolated and shallow footings, retaining structures, and modern methods of pile construction monitoring, as well as stability analysis and ground improvement methods. The handbook also covers reliability-based design and LRFD (Load Resistance Factor Design)-concepts not addressed in most foundation engineering texts. Easy-to-follow numerical design examples illustrate each technique. Along with its unique, comprehensive coverage, the clear, concise discussions and logical organization of The Foundation Engineering Handbook make it the one quick reference every practitioner and student in the field needs.
