Book Elementary School Children s Spelling specific Self beliefs

Download or read book Elementary School Children s Spelling specific Self beliefs written by Günter Faber and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a study that concerns itself with selected findings on the measurement of the spelling-specific self-concept, on the causal ordering between the spelling-specific self-concept and spelling achievement, on the relationships between the spelling-specific self-concept and causal attributions of dictation outcomes as well as on the relationships between the spelling-specific self-concept, spelling-specific test anxiety, and global self-esteem variables and on the relationships between the spelling self-concept and test anxiety, global self-esteem, and school attitude variables. Moreover, an empirical approach to further differentiate the spelling-specific self-concept and thus to analyse a more task-specific facet is documented. Altogether, these findings can provide strong evidence for a basic model of academic self-beliefs in the spelling domain.

This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book Self Esteem in Children with Special Educational Needs

Download or read book Self Esteem in Children with Special Educational Needs written by Peter W. Gurney and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988. The mounting concern in schools over widespread failure in academic achievement, greater disaffection in children and the lack of confidence in many school leavers are highlighted by the difficulties experienced by children who have special educational needs. Within this group the importance of the child’s evaluation of him or herself – i.e. self-esteem – is a neglected issue. This book investigates how the level of self-esteem appears to influence social behaviour and school performance in children with special educational needs. It discusses the practical steps that can be taken to assess and enhance self-esteem in children with special needs and evaluates their effectiveness. The author emphasises the discrepancy between the performance of children who have special educational needs in ordinary classrooms with that achieved in special settings. He argues that the negative impact on a child’s self-esteem created by placing him/her in an ordinary classroom may outweigh the benefits of greater integration. A full and informative treatment of both the theoretical and practical implications of a neglected subject, this text book is suitable for experienced special educational needs teachers and those undergoing teacher training, as well as psychologists with an academic interest in the self-concept or a professional involvement in assessing children.

Book The Associations Between Parent Attitudes and Behaviors and Child Self concept and Academic Achievement

Download or read book The Associations Between Parent Attitudes and Behaviors and Child Self concept and Academic Achievement written by Morgan Bobo and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to evaluate associations between parent academic expectations/aspirations and involvement behaviors, academic achievement, and academic self-concept among youth in elementary school. Measures include: the Scale of Educational Aspirations and Expectations for Adolescents, the Parent Report of Home-based and School-based Involvement Activities Scales, the Self-Description Questionnaire I, and the Illinois Standards Achievement Test. A total of 55 fourth or fifth grade children enrolled in one of two rural Midwestern elementary schools and their parents participated. Mixed results were observed with respect to the relations among parent reported expectations, child academic achievement and self-concept. Child perceptions of parent expectations and involvement behaviors were significantly correlated with academic self-concept. However, there were significant differences between schools. Finally, non-minority children obtained higher scores for self-concept in mathematics than minority children. Potential concerns with sample size and construct measurement are explored. Implications for policy and classroom interventions are also discussed.
