Book Intracranial Gliomas Part I Surgery

Download or read book Intracranial Gliomas Part I Surgery written by M.F. Chernov and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aggressive surgical removal is generally considered the main initial management option for most intracranial gliomas. It often results in resolution or alleviation of neurological symptoms and signs, normalizes intracranial pressure, facilitates characterization of the neoplasm, creates optimal conditions for adjuvant therapy and neurorehabilitation, and leads to prolongation of progression-free and overall survival of patients. Leading experts in neurosurgical oncology have contributed to this volume, highlighting modern principles of surgery for both newly-diagnosed and recurrent intracranial gliomas in adult as well as pediatric patients. The first of a three-volume set, it details epidemiological aspects, defines the importance of preoperative imaging, and describes current perioperative adjuvant needs. In addition, contemporary methods of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, the value of brain mapping for functional preservation, tips to prevent complications, and postoperative results are presented and discussed. This book and its accompanying volumes are mainly directed at neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists and other clinicians treating patients with brain tumors.

  • Pages : 179 pages

Download or read book Endourooncology written by H. Kumon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-24 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent research and clinical work have demonstrated that the rapid urologic innovation in minimally invasive treatment is creating exciting new horizons in endourology. This sixth volume in the series Recent Advances in Endourology brings that knowledge to a wider audience, focusing on the new concept of endourooncology, which is the merging of endourology and oncology. In the surgical treatment of urologic malignancies, bipolarization - that is, radical extended resection or organ-sparing surgery - is making remarkable advances. Further developments in sophisticated reconstructive surgery using robotic systems and image-guided ablation technology will allow surgeons to formulate minimally invasive, tailor-made procedures for each patient with urologic cancer. In this book, the current status and future prospects of these new technologies are reviewed, illuminating their roles in the future of endourooncology.

Book CARS 2002 Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery

Download or read book CARS 2002 Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery written by H.U. Lemke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progess in specific computer-assisted techniques (digital imaging , computer-aided diagnosis, image-guided surgery, MEMS, etc.) combined with computer-assisted integration tools offers a valuable complement to or replacement for existing procedures in healthcare. Physicians are now employing PACS and telemedicine systems as enabling infrastructures to improve quality of and access to healthcare. Tools based on CAD and CAS facilitate completely new paths in patient care. To ensure that CARS tools benefit the patient, collaboration between various disciplines, specifically radiology, surgery, engineering, informatics, and healthcare management, is a critical factor. A multidisciplinary congress like CARS is a step in the desired direction of knowledge sharing and crossover education. It provides the necessary cooperative framework for advancing the development and application of modern computer-assisted technologies in healthcare.

Book Medical Challenges for the New Millennium

Download or read book Medical Challenges for the New Millennium written by Stefan N. Willich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1978, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the year 2000 as the "due date" for world health. The Alma Ata declaration set the turn of the century as the target for a level of health that would permit all people of the world to lead a socially and economically productive life. ' At that (magic but arbitrary) date most infectious diseases and many chronic conditions, including diabetes and cancer, were expected to have been eradicated or at least controlled. Such predictions were based on solid foundations. In the 1 20 h century, and particularly since the 1970's, Western science and technology based (or "modern") medicine has made quantum leaps in numerous areas as diverse as pharmacology, genetic and molecular biology, surgical techniques, infertility treatments, and pre- and neo-natal care. This impressive trajectory of progress, which continues unabatedly, gave every reason to assume that come the year 2000 humanity would finally be free from many of its ancient scourges. However, as we are all too well aware, the new millennium witnesses also ever more terrifying threats to our health as a result of the emergence of 2 AIDS in the early 80's, the resurgence of infectious diseases such as 3 tuberculosis and malaria, now drug resistant, the absence of significant breakthroughs in the treatment of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and the continuing dramatic gap in health care between industrialized and developing countries, to mention but a few examples.
