Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our search for a charged Higgs boson is performed with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 ± 0.5 fb-1 collected with the CMS detector in proton-proton collisions at √s=8,TeV. The charged Higgs boson is searched for in top quark decays for m H± m t - m b, and in the direct production pp → t(b)Hsup± /supfor m H± m t - m born The H± → ? ± ? ? and H± → tb decay modes in the final states ? h+jets, ?? h, l+jets, and ll’ (l =e, ?) are considered in the search. No signal is observed and 95% confidence level upper limits are set on the charged Higgs boson production. Furthermore, a model-independent upper limit on the product branching fraction B(t→H±b)B(H±→?±??)=1.2-0.15% is obtained in the mass range m H± = 80–160 GeV, while the upper limit on the cross section times branching fraction ?(pp→t(b)H±)B(H±→ ?±??)=0.38-0.025 pb is set in the mass range m H+ = 180–600 GeV. Here, ?(pp → t(b)H±) stands for the cross section sum ?(pp→t¯(b)H+)+?(pp→t(b¯)H-). Assuming B(H±→tb)=1, an upper limit on ?(pp → t(b)H±) of 2.0–0.13 pb is set for m H± = 180–600 GeV. The combination of all considered decay modes and final states is used to set exclusion limits in the m H±-tan ? parameter space in different MSSM benchmark scenarios.

Book A Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Multilepton Final States and a Measurement of p p to WZ to l v l l with the CMS Detector at the LHC

Download or read book A Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Multilepton Final States and a Measurement of p p to WZ to l v l l with the CMS Detector at the LHC written by Devin Nathaniel Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a search for a doubly-charged Higgs boson in three and four lepton final states. The two production modes considered are the associated production mode with a doubly-charged Higgs boson produced in association with a singly-charged Higgs boson and the pair production mode with the simultaneous production of two doubly-charged Higgs bosons. The search is performed with 12.9 fb-1 of square root s = 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the Compact Muon Solenoid at the Large Hadron Collider. In addition, this thesis presents the first measurement of the WZ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at square root s = 13 TeV. The measurement is performed in the WZ to [l][v][l]'[l]' decay mode where [l], [l]' = e, [mu] with an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb-1.

Book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Decaying Into Two Photons in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Decaying Into Two Photons in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons is described. The analysis is performed using a dataset recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC from pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.8 inverse femtobarns. Limits are set on the cross section of the standard model Higgs boson decaying to two photons. The expected exclusion limit at 95% confidence level is between 1.4 and 2.4 times the standard model cross section in the mass range between 110 and 150 GeV. The analysis of the data excludes, at 95% confidence level, the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two photons in the mass range 128 to 132 GeV. The largest excess of events above the expected standard model background is observed for a Higgs boson mass hypothesis of 124 GeV with a local significance of 3.1 sigma. The global significance of observing an excess with a local significance greater than 3.1 sigma anywhere in the search range 110-150 GeV is estimated to be 1.8 sigma. More data are required to ascertain the origin of this excess.

Book Searches for Invisible Decays of the Higgs Boson in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Searches for Invisible Decays of the Higgs Boson in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searches for invisible decays of the Higgs boson are presented. The data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC correspond to integrated luminosities of 5.1, 19.7, and 2.3 inverse femtobarns at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively. The search channels target Higgs boson production via gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and in association with a vector boson. Upper limits are placed on the branching fraction of the Higgs boson decay to invisible particles, as a function of the assumed production cross sections. The combination of all channels, assuming standard model production, yields an observed (expected) upper limit on the invisible branching fraction of 0.24 (0.23) at the 95% confidence level. The results are also interpreted in the context of Higgs-portal dark matter models.

Book Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Tau lepton Final States with 139 Inverse Femtobarns of Proton proton Collision Data Recorded at a Centre of Mass Energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Search for Charged Higgs Bosons in Tau lepton Final States with 139 Inverse Femtobarns of Proton proton Collision Data Recorded at a Centre of Mass Energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector written by Sina Bahrasemani and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Higgs boson, with a measured mass of approximately $125~GeV$, has been studied extensively since its discovery in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider. This discovery opens the question of whether the Higgs boson of the Standard Model (SM) is the only scalar particle of Nature or it belongs to a larger scalar sector, as predicted in many Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories. Therefore, observation of charged Higgs bosons would indicate new physics. This thesis presents results of a search for a charged Higgs boson in the mass range $80~GeV$ to $3~TeV$, through tau-lepton final states. The search is performed using proton-proton collisions data at $\sqrt{s}=13~\mbox{TeV}$, collected with the ATLAS experiment, during 2015 to 2018. The final results are interpreted in the context of the Minimal SuperSymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) benchmark scenarios. In these scenarios, charged Higgs bosons coupling to tau-lepton are enhanced for some parts of the search phase space, thus increasing the chance of their discovery. No significant excess of events above the expected background from the Standard Model processes is observed. Therefore, upper limits on the charged Higgs boson production cross section times its branching ratio to tau-lepton and its associated neutrino are set at a 95\% Confidence Level. The results are also interpreted in the context of the hMSSM and $m^{mod -}_{h}$ benchmark scenarios of the MSSM. Due to the enhancement of the charged Higgs boson coupling to tau-leptons at high values of the $\tan\beta$ parameter of the MSSM, it is possible to exclude the high $\tan\beta$ region in the $M_{H^{\pm}}$--$\tan\beta$ parameter space. In this work, $\tan\beta$ values around 60 are excluded up to a charged Higgs boson mass of $1400~\GeV$. Furthermore, in the low mass region, below $170~GeV$, all values of $\tan\beta$ in range 1--60 are excluded at 95\% confidence level.
