Book The Closing Scenes of the Life of Christ

Download or read book The Closing Scenes of the Life of Christ written by D. D. Buck and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Closing Scenes of the Life of Christ: Being a Harmonized Combination of the Four Gospel Histories of the Last Year of Our Saviour's Life Hese Readings and Prayers have been compiled for any who, in the bustle and hurry of work, have little time to select for themselves suitable passages for daily meditation and prayer. The idea when first suggested was so warmly approved of, that the scheme has been considerably enlarged, and it is hoped that the book will be found useful for Household and Family Prayers, as well as in Schools and Public Institutions, and more particularly in Hospital Wards, for which it was originally intended, where the Nurses are busy, and the Patients oftentimes too ill to attend to any but the Simplest Scripture and the shortest Prayers. Being so largely made up of extracts from Holy Scripture, it may also supply a want as a Manual of Devotion in daily Christian life where there is limited opportunity for special Bible study. For the Morning Readings, the Life of our lord jesus christ, from His Birth to His Ascension, has been arranged in historical sequence from the four Gospels. The Epistles from the Book of Common Prayer have been used as often as possible for the Evening Readings, and other appropriate passages from the Old or New Testaments, that there may be consecutive teaching as well as variety from day to day, and so as to suggest and mark the wonderful harmony of thought throughout the Whole of the Inspired Volume. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sacred Scenes, or Passages in the Life of Our Saviour There is one great fact of such paramount importance and in uence on the destinies of the human race, that it can not be too often presented to our notice, or too earnestly commended to our serious attention; and this fact is the descent and the actual bodily presence of our Lord Jesus Christ upon earth. As this act and its concomitant circum stances, wrought out the work of redemption, so the due consideration and study of it, the full belief in it, and the heart feelings which that belief insures, do now work out the salvation of all true believers in our Lord. Download or read book A Better Life written by Rebecca Smith and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The founder of Better Life Bags, Rebecca Smith, teaches us how to take little steps, say yes when God calls, and follow the passion He has given us. Let love stretch you. As the founder of one of the most popular custom handbag companies in the country, Rebecca Smith knows a thing or two about business. A highly successful entrepreneur in a world where the focus is on scalability, brand strategy, and global marketing, Rebecca Smith also knows the truth: that every success she's experienced at Better Life Bags has been the result of very small, very ordinary, very obedient steps of faith. Moving from Savannah, Georgia, to Hamtramck, Michigan, was culture shock enough for Rebecca. But trying to feel at home in a city where twenty-six different languages were spoken and most of the inhabitants were immigrants seemed downright impossible. It was only when Rebecca recognized that God had called her to this specific neighborhood at this particular moment in time that his plans began to unfold for her. Stepping forward into the place God had called her - a place that seemed messy and uncomfortable and unfamiliar - Rebecca discovered the true secret to success: when we slow down, pay attention, and trust that still, small voice of God to guide us, we just might change the world. Though Rebecca never set out to build a brand or create an empire, God saw Rebecca's heart for others, and began to multiply her efforts in ways she could have never imagined, creating a company where women from different cultures, faiths, and backgrounds work together for the good of others - for a better life. As you read this inspiring story, you will discover how to hear and follow God's voice for yourself as you slow down, take one small step at a time, and make a difference in the world right where you are.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Painters' Gospel: Pictures Representing Scenes and Incidents in the Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ; With Scriptural Quotations, References and Suggestions for Comparative Study The text itself may be the supreme thing, and pictures become mere pictorial comments upon the text. Pictures when so used have the nature of views or illustra tions. The picture at the head of this page is a view. It is reproduced from a photo graph taken directly from nature. Such pictures are of great value in building up in the mind clear images of objects or of scenes beyond the pupil's reach. A map means almost nothing to a person unfamiliar with the country, unless by means of numberless views the appearance of the country has been made known to the mind. Every teacher in Sunday-school should have a collection of photographic views of the historical sites of the Bible, of implements, household utensils, articles of dress, etc., which may be used to make clear the Biblical references to such things. Without such illustrations words may convey little or no meaning. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ written by J. James Tissot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-06-13 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ: Illustrated by Over Four Hundred Paintings and Drawings Taken From the Four Gospels and From Studies Made in Palestine This is why, attracted as I was by the divine figure of Jesus, and by the entrancing scenes of the Gospel story, and desiring to present them, as faithfully as I could, in theirdifferent aspects, I determined to start for Palestine, and to visit it as a devout pilgrim. I started on the 1sth of October, 1886. I was just fifty years old. As soon as I arrived in Egypt, I saw that there was no fear of my losing any of my illusions; Alexandria and Cairo already amply repaid me for my journey, by giv ing me the direct impression of antiquity. With such documents, it seemed almost superfluous to go further - antiquity was palpably there, and I thought it would be easy to rid it of the thin layer of modernity that covered it, and so discover at once the remains of the bygone ages. When I ar rived in Palestine, however, the impression was different again; I felt that Africa was not the whole of the East; that there the race, the customs, the materials used in the construction of the towns, and hence even more markedly the landscapes and the soil, all were different. As I went northwards, from the time of leaving Nazareth, Lebanon, and Damascus, I was aware of the presenceof the Turkish race, that is to say, of the man coming from the North, with his special customs, his sensuality, and his distinctive costume, composed of fur-lined stuffs, heavy with embroidery, which necessitate quite a different style of arrangement. I was thus able to gain, by comparing the North and the South, a fuller and more pre cise idea of the country of the Jews. As for the buildings, the variations in their general character were quite as striking. In Africa and the north of Palestine, where wood is used, the construction and decora tion of the houses and other edifices are quite different from what is seen in Judea, where wood is, and always must have been, want ing, since it had to be brought from Lebanon for the palaces and the porches of the tem ple The roof of every house was raised in a dome, and this dome was visible above the rest of the roof; hence this crowd of little domes in Judea, which contrast with the flat roofs of the northern and southern towns. Book St Mark s Life of Jesus Classic Reprint

Download or read book St Mark s Life of Jesus Classic Reprint written by Theodore Henry Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from St. Mark's Life of Jesus Jesus is the centre of the religious history of the human race. He is the supreme revelation of God to man. There have been other great teachers, who have told men of God, and helped them to draw near to Him. But Jesus is different from all the rest. Where the others have had a partial revelation (and sometimes a very partial one) to give, Jesus has given us all of God. It may be true that there is still much to learn, - that may be more than admitted; it may be claimed. The revelation of God did not cease with the first Christian generation. It has been continuous, and to-day we ought to know more of God than any age has done Since Jesus left the world. But there is now a difference. There can be no fuller revelation than Jesus there is a constantly developing revelation of Jesus. What more of God we may know than our fathers did, we may know of and in and through Jesus Himself. He is the ultimate message of God to humanity. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Lives of the Apostles of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lives of the Apostles of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by David Francis Bacon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lives of the Apostles of Jesus Christ The materials of this work should be found in all that has been written on the subject of the New Testament history, since the scriptural canon was completed. But who is sufficient for these things 2 A long life might find abundant employment in searching a thousand libraries, and in com iling from a hundred thousand volumes, the facts and illustrations of this immense an noble subject; and then the best energies of another long life would be needed to bring the mighty masses into form, and give them in a narrative for the mind of the unlearned. What, then, is here attempted, as a substitute for this immensily 2 To give a clear, distinct, narrative Of each apostle's life, with such illustrations of the character of the era and the scene in which the inci dents occurred, and such explanations of the terms in which they are recorded, as may, consistently with the limits of this book, be drawn from those works of the learned of ancient and modern times, which are within the writer's reach. Various and nume rous are the books that swell the list of faithful and honest references many and weighty the volumes that have been turned over, in the long course of research; ancient and venerable the dust, which has been shaken into suffocating clouds about the searcher's head, and has obscured his vision, as he dragged many a forgotten folio from the slum ber of ages, to furnish the modern compiler with the rich productions Of antique lore. Histories, travels, geographies, maps, commentaries, criticisms, introductions, and lexicons, have been daily and nightly turned in the hand; and of this labor some fruit is Offered on every page. But the unstained source of sacred history! The pure well - spring, at which the wearied searcher always refreshed himself, after unrequited toils through dry masses of erudition, was the simple story of the Apostles and Evangelists, told by themselves. In this same simple story, indeed, were found the points on which the longest labor was required; yet these, at best only illustrated, not improved, by all the labors of the learned of various ages, were the materials of the work. These were the preparations of months and years; the execution must decide on their real value. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
