Book excerpt: Thought the last financial crisis was scary? Just wait…it’s going to get worse America is on the brink of financial collapse. Decades of political overpromising and underfunding have created a wave of debt that could swamp our already feeble economy. And the politicians’ favorite tricks—raising taxes, borrowing from foreign governments, and printing more money—will only make it worse. Only one thing might save us: Roll back the government. In Rollback: Repealing Big Government Before the Coming Fiscal Collapse, Thomas E. Woods, Jr. explains that we may still have a chance to avert total economic disaster—but only by completely changing our understanding of government. With bracing candor, he dissects just how the political class has nearly destroyed America’s economy. In Rollback, you’ll learn: Why practically everything you’ve been taught about government and the economy is wrong—the product of liberal pro–government propaganda How the Federal Reserve helps create crises and slows recovery Why big business is no ally in rolling back government and actually wants and needs big government intervention in the marketplace How current policies, if unchecked, will lead to the collapse of the dollar How government policies have driven the skyrocketing costs of health care Why retirement will be a pipe dream for the next generation How the coming collapse can be turned to your advantage—and the advantage of all who believe in liberty and limited government Thanks to decades of politicians playing kick the can down the road, we and our children are facing economic Armageddon. But this crisis could help us see government for what it really is—an institution that has seized our wealth and taught our children to honor it as the source of all progress. The good news is it’s not too late to roll back government—and the opportunity to do so is now.

Book Between Containment and Rollback

Download or read book Between Containment and Rollback written by Christian F. Ostermann and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-27 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of World War II, American policymakers turned to the task of rebuilding Europe while keeping communism at bay. In Germany, formally divided since 1949,the United States prioritized the political, economic, and, eventually, military integration of the fledgling Federal Republic with the West. The extraordinary success story of forging this alliance has dominated our historical under-standing of the American-German relationship. Largely left out of the grand narrative of U.S.–German relations were most East Germans who found themselves caught under Soviet and then communist control by the post-1945 geo-political fallout of the war that Nazi Germany had launched. They were the ones who most dearly paid the price for the country's division. This book writes the East Germans—both leadership and general populace—back into that history as objects of American policy and as historical agents in their own right Based on recently declassified documents from American, Russian, and German archives, this book demonstrates that U.S. efforts from 1945 to 1953 went beyond building a prosperous democracy in western Germany and "containing" Soviet-Communist power to the east. Under the Truman and then the Eisenhower administrations, American policy also included efforts to undermine and "roll back" Soviet and German communist control in the eastern part of the country. This story sheds light on a dark-er side to the American Cold War in Germany: propaganda, covert operations, economic pressure, and psychological warfare. Christian F. Ostermann takes an international history approach, capturing Soviet and East German responses and actions, and drawing a rich and complex picture of the early East–West confrontation in the heart of Europe.

Book What the Future Knows About the Past

Download or read book What the Future Knows About the Past written by Henry Osoisi Atang-Agama and published by Henry Osoisi Atang-Agama. This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The events of 2020 have reshaped many of our lives. While most know what to do about the changes which have occurred, others have no clue. In 2018 when I wrote this book, little did I know it was literally speaking into the future. As you plan to navigate the “new normal” and sometimes tricky terrain, this book will be there to guide you. It follows a similar journey I had to take a few years ago; a journey to redefining myself. This second edition of the book has an added workbook. The workbook is designed to provide a framework for you to ask yourself tough questions. I hope the answers to these questions help you see what is truly possible. Many of us planned for a different future, and then all this happened, making that future no longer feasible. The art of re-invention is the most important skill to have when responding to similar life-altering events. In this book, I help you on the journey of re-invention. With it, you will also be able to help your children on their path early enough. I started writing this book a few years ago after I heard the phrase, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. I am ever more conscious of the fact that today is the beginning of what time I have left. I have written this book with that persuasion, hoping to help you find a new tempo for your steps. Find ways to anticipate the future, to prepare for that future and to re-engineer that future. How does one avoid obsoletion? How long does it take, standing on this very spot, to become obsolete? Apparently, becoming obsolete is more straightforward than I initially thought. This book tests a few assumptions some of us have held as true about how to make the most of the future. It may provide the keys to reinventing the future. I hope you enjoy it.

Ideally, these compilations have been the first of its kind in the whole wide world as far as the field of English is concerned, which, to a larger extent, would inarguably attract buyers attention for reading not only for leisure but also as reference for academic purposes.

Updated and revised for 2018. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, a couple of cynical New York jazz fans wormed their way into a record contract and astonished critics with their first album Can't Buy a Thrill in 1973. Nine albums later, they were among the biggest selling acts in the world. Steely Dan were different from the rest of rock's super-sellers. They rarely gave interviews and, after some early bad experiences on the road, they refused to tour. They didn't have their photographs taken and few people knew what they looked like. Steely Dan weren’t even a proper group; it was two musicians and a producer, yet every top notch player in the world lined up to appear on their albums. This book, penned by Brian Sweet, the editor and publisher of Metal Leg, the UK-based Steely Dan fanzine, finally draws back the veil of secrecy that surrounded Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Here is the story of how they made their music and lived their lives.
