Download or read book Handbook of Solvents Volume 1 written by George Wypych and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-02-07 with total page 997 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 4th edition of Handbook of Solvents, Volume 1, contains the most recent findings and trends in solvent applications. It is a comprehensive survey of the science of solvents and their properties, covering all aspects of solvent behavior that are relevant to their use in chemical and related industries including agricultural and technical processes, inorganic synthesis and materials chemistry, and more. Divided into two volumes, this first volume covers high-level information on the physical chemical properties of the most relevant solvent systems. Each chapter is focused on a specific aspect of solvent properties that determine its selection, such as the effect on properties of solutes and solutions, properties of different groups of solvents, and the summary of their applications' effect on health and the environment (given in tabulated form). Also covered is swelling of solids in solvents, solvent diffusion and drying processes, nature of the interaction of solvent and solute in solutions, acid-base interactions, the effect of solvents on spectral and other electronic properties of solutions, the effect of solvents on the rheology of the solution, aggregation of solutes, permeability, molecular structure, crystallinity, configuration, conformation of dissolved high molecular weight compounds, and the effect of solvents on chemical reactions and reactivity of dissolved substances. With insight from specialists in a broad array of different areas and written with an interdisciplinary audience in mind, this thoroughly revised 4th edition provides readers with a complete overview of all the organic solvents available for industrial applications today. The book contains numerous references to key sources of more detailed information, and together with Handbook of Solvents Volume 2: Use, Health, and Environment; Databook of Green Solvents; and Databook of Solvents, represents the most comprehensive and up-to-date information ever published on solvents. - Provides key insights that will help engineers and scientists select the best solvent for the job - Includes practical information and ideas on how to improve existing processes involving solvents - Presents the latest advances in solvent technology and their applications
Download or read book Organic Rankine Cycle Technology for Heat Recovery written by Enhua Wang and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on organic Rankine cycle technology presents nine chapters on research activities covering the wide range of current issues on the organic Rankine cycle. The first section deals with working fluid selection and component design. The second section is related to dynamic modeling, starting from internal combustion engines to industrial power plants. The third section discusses industrial applications of waste heat recovery, including internal combustion engines, LNG, and waste water. A comprehensive analysis of the technology and application of organic Rankine cycle systems is beyond the aim of the book. However, the content of this volume can be useful for scientists and students to broaden their knowledge of technologies and applications of organic Rankine cycle systems.
Download or read book Dense Phase Carbon Dioxide written by Murat O. Balaban and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-06-19 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dense phase carbon dioxide (DPCD) is a non-thermal method for food and pharmaceutical processing that can ensure safe products with minimal nutrient loss and better preserved quality attributes. Its application is quite different than, for example, supercritical extraction with CO 2 where the typical solubility of materials in CO 2 is in the order of 1% and therefore requires large volumes of CO 2. In contrast, processing with DPCD requires much less CO 2 (between 5 to 8% CO 2 by weight) and the pressures used are at least one order of magnitude less than those typically used in ultra high pressure (UHP) processing. There is no noticeable temperature increase due to pressurization, and typical process temperatures are around 40°C. DPCD temporarily reduces the pH of liquid foods and because oxygen is removed from the environment, and because the temperature is not high during the short process time (typically about five minutes in continuous systems), nutrients, antioxidant activity, and vitamins are much better preserved than with thermal treatments. In pharmaceutical applications, DPCD facilitates the production of micronized powders of controlled particle size and distribution. Although the capital and operating costs are higher than that of thermal treatments, they are much lower than other non-thermal technology operations. This book is the first to bring together the significant amount of research into DPCD and highlight its effectiveness against microorganisms and enzymes as well as its potential in particle engineering. It is directed at food and pharmaceutical industry scientists and technologists working with DPCD and other traditional or non-thermal technologies that can potentially be used in conjunction with DPCD. It will also be of interest to packaging specialists and regulatory agencies.
