Why is there simultaneously too much government secrecy and a seemingly endless procession of government leaks? The Transparency Fix asserts that we incorrectly assume that government information can be controlled. The same impulse that drives transparency movements also drives secrecy advocates. They all hold the mistaken belief that government information can either be released or kept secure on command. The Transparency Fix argues for a reformation in our assumptions about secrecy and transparency. The world did not end because Julian Assange, WikiLeaks, and Edward Snowden released classified information. But nor was there a significant political change. "Transparency" has become a buzzword, while secrecy is anathema. Using a variety of real-life examples to examine how government information actually flows, Mark Fenster describes how the legal regime's tenuous control over state information belies both the promise and peril of transparency. He challenges us to confront the implausibility of controlling government information and shows us how the contemporary obsession surrounding transparency and secrecy cannot radically change a state that is defined by so much more than information.

Projected Canadian statistics estimate that the population aged 65 years and older will in crease from the current 9. 7% to 13% by the year 2000. Based on the current total population of almost 25 million, the number of hip fractures caused by age-related bone 1055 will almost double and will reach approximately 28,000 per year in Canada. Extrapolation of these figures according to populations in other countries is easy. The costs in expenditures and human suffering are inestimable. This is an area where orthopedic research will have to redouble its efforts in the hope of finding better preventive measures. Furthermore, knowledge of the pathogenetic mechanisms of bone 1055 becomes increasingly important in osteoporosis associated with weightlessness. The third impressive insight we derived from the presentations at this sym posium was the revelations of the latest imaging techniques and monitoring devices. Nuclear medicine, computer assisted tomography, and nuclear magnetic resonance are being applied to bone disease.

The book catalogues and analyzes representations of a militarized Internet in popular Hollywood cinema, arguing that such illustrations of digitally networked technologies promotes an unhealthy transhumanism that weaponizes the relationships between the biological and technological aspects of that audience, while also hierarchically placing the “human” components at the top. Such filmmaking and movie-watching should be replaced with a critical posthumanism that challenges the relationships between the audience and their technologies, in addition to providing critical tools that can be applied to understanding and potentially resist modern warfare.
