Book Relativistic Dynamics in Polarized Proton Scattering from Polarized Sup 13 C

Download or read book Relativistic Dynamics in Polarized Proton Scattering from Polarized Sup 13 C written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic scattering and charge exchange reactions for polarized proton scattering from polarized 13C are studied using the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation. Sensitivities of predicted observables to relativistic effects in the nuclear wave function and the Lorentz form of the effective interaction are discussed. The results suggest that it may be possible in this way to obtain new information concerning relativistic dynamics in nuclear structure and scattering processes. 25 refs., 12 figs., 1 tab.

Book Polarization Transfer in the Reaction 4He vec v E vec p 3H in the Quasielastic Scattering Region

Download or read book Polarization Transfer in the Reaction 4He vec v E vec p 3H in the Quasielastic Scattering Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a longstanding issue concerning possible nucleon modifications in a (dense) nuclear medium. Polarization transfer data for exclusive quasielastic electron scattering are a sensitive to the ratio of the electric and magnetic nucleon form factors in the medium. Although proper interpretation of the results requires accounting for such effects as final state interactions and meson exchange currents, their effect on polarization transfer is predicted to be small. Studies of model dependencies, e.g., the off-shell current operator and spinor distortions, have been done. Final results of a measurement of polarization transfer in the 4He($\vec{v}$, e'$\vec{p}$)3H reaction will be discussed. The experiments were carried out at MAMI, Mainz at a Q2 of 0.4 GeV2 and at the Thomas Jefferson Lab, Newport News, Virginia at the Q2 values 0.5, 1.0, 1.6 and 2.6 GeV2. Measured values of the transferred and induced polarization are compared with various theoretical calculations. The experiment showed a difference between the fully relativistic model with may indicate medium modifications of the form factor.

Book Perspectives in Hadronic Physics

Download or read book Perspectives in Hadronic Physics written by Sigfrido Boffi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited and contributed papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Perspectives in Hadronic Physics and sent to the Editors within the deadline. The Conference was held at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, from May 12th to 16th, 2003, and was attended by about 100 scientists from 20 countries. The series ofConferences on Perspectives on Hadronic Physics takes place every two years since 1997 and follows the seven Workshops on Perspectives in Nuclear Physics at Intermediate Energies, organized every two years at ICTP since 1983. The aim of these Conferences is to discuss the status-of-the-art concerning the experimental and theoretical investigations of hadronic systems, from nucleons to nuclei and dense nuclear matter, in terms of the relevant underlying degrees of freedom. For such a reason the Fourth Conference has been focused on those experimental and theoretical topics which have been in the last few years the object of intensive investigations, viz. the various approaches employed to describe the structure of hadrons in terms of QCD and QCD inspired models, the recent developments in the treatment of the properties and propagations of hadronic states in the medium, the relevant progress done in the solution of the few- and many- hadron problems, the recent results in the experimental investigation of dense hadronic matter and, last but not least, the physics programs of existing Laboratories and the suggested projects for new Facilities.

Book Search for Effects Beyond the Born Approximation in Polarization Transfer Observables in vec e p Elastic Scattering

Download or read book Search for Effects Beyond the Born Approximation in Polarization Transfer Observables in vec e p Elastic Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intensive theoretical and experimental efforts over the past decade have aimed at explaining the discrepancy between data for the proton electric to magnetic form factor ratio, $G_{E}/G_{M}$, obtained separately from cross section and polarization transfer measurements. One possible explanation for this difference is a two-photon-exchange (TPEX) contribution. In an effort to search for effects beyond the one-photon-exchange or Born approximation, we report measurements of polarization transfer observables in the elastic $H(\vec{e}, e'\vec{p})$ reaction for three different beam energies at a fixed squared momentum transfer $Q^2 = 2.5$ GeV$^2$, spanning a wide range of the virtual photon polarization parameter, $\epsilon$. From these measured polarization observables, we have obtained separately the ratio $R$, which equals $\mu_p G_{E}/G_{M}$ in the Born approximation, and the longitudinal polarization transfer component $P_\ell$, with statistical and systematic uncertainties of $\Delta R \approx \pm 0.01 \mbox{(stat)} \pm 0.013 \mbox{(syst)}$ and $\Delta P_\ell/P^{Born}_{\ell} \approx \pm 0.006 \mbox{(stat)}\pm 0.01 \mbox{(syst)}$. The ratio $R$ is found to be independent of $\epsilon$ at the 1.5% level, while the $\epsilon$ dependence of $P_\ell$ shows an enhancement of $(2.3 \pm 0.6) %$ relative to the Born approximation at large $\epsilon$.

Book Spin Observables of Nuclear Probes

Download or read book Spin Observables of Nuclear Probes written by Charles J. Horowitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of the "International Conference on Spin Observables of Nuclear Probes" are presented in this volume. This conference was held in Telluride, Colorado, March 14-17, 1988, and was the fourth in the Telluride series of nuclear physics conferences. A continuing theme in the Telluride conference series has been the complementarity of various intermediate-energy projectiles for elucidating the nucleon-nucleon interaction and nuclear structure. Earlier conferences have contributed significantly to an understanding of spin currents in nuclei, in particular the distribution of Gamow-Teller strength using charge-exchange reactions. The previous conference on "Antinucleon and Nucleon Nucleus Interactions" compared nuclear information from tra tional probes to recent results from antinucleon reactions. The 1988 conference on Spin Observables of Nuclear Probes, put special emphasis on spin observables and brought together experts using spin information to probe nuclear structure. Spin observables have provided very detailed information about nuclear structure and reactions. Since the 1985 Telluride conference we have seen data from new focal plane polarimeters at LAMPF, TRIUMF, IUCF and elsewhere. In addition, spin observables provide an important common ground between electron and hadron scattering physics. In the future we look forward to new facilities such as NTOF for polarized neutron measurements at Los Alamos and a vigorous spin program at CEBAF.
