Book excerpt: This is the second book in a series on the life of a Seer and the gracious gift of God's pictorial language to His bride, the Church. In this volume we explore the Seer and Healing - How visions and dreams operate in the ministry of healing. It's a timely work. We live in exciting times! Everywhere you turn God is pouring out the Spirit of prophecy and revelation upon his people, often through the language of dreams and visions. Dreams and visions are one of many methods God uses in communication to His children while they do the works of the kingdom and pray for the sick. This series is for the everyday Christian, the average Joe, the layperson, people like you and me. I have written this book to release the folks that are sitting quietly in the back of the church and are not sure of how they fit in or what they can do to contribute to the Kingdom of God. With this series, I want to stir their hearts to go deeper, and pursue the ministry of healing. The Lord does speak to His people. He speaks to them through His Word. He speaks to them with that small still voice. He speaks to them through circumstance, and He speaks through the language of visions and dreams. This series will help you listen and see in a new way as you operate to fulfill God's will in your life. You will learn to understand how visions and dreams operate through gifting... wither it's a word of knowledge, prophecy, healing, or discerning of spirits. I pray this series will meet my intended goal. The Seer Series includes the following books: The Seer's Gift - a look at the Language of Visions and Dreams. The Seer & Healing (this volume) - How visions and dreams operate in the ministry of healing. The Seer & Prophecy - The Gift and Office of the Seer Prophet. Pectoral Language of a Seer - a reference work on similes, metaphors, and symbolism commonly seen in the life of the believer.

Download or read book Jesus the Seer written by Ben Witherington III and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 20174-10-01 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, scholars recognize that prophetic traditions, expressions, and experiences stand at the heart of most religions in the ancient Mediterranean world. This is no less true for the world of Judaism and Jesus. Ben Witherington III offers an extensive, cross-cultural survey of the broader expressions of prophecy in its ancient Mediterranean context, beginning with Mari, moving to biblical figures not often regarded as prophets‒‒Balaam, Deborah, Moses, and Aaron‒‒and to the apocalyptic seer in postexilic prophecy, showing that no single pattern describes all prophetic figures. The consequence is that different aspects of Jesus’s activity touch upon prophetic predecessors: his miracles, on Elijah and Elisha; his self-understanding as the Son of Man, on Daniel and 1 Enoch; his warnings of woe and judgment, on the “writing prophets” in Judean tradition; and his messianic entry into Jerusalem, on Zechariah 9. Witherington also surveys the phenomenon of apocalyptic prophecy in early Christianity, including Paul, Revelation, the Didache, Hermas, and the Montanist movement. Jesus the Seer is a worthy complement to Witherington’s other volume on Jesus, Jesus the Sage (Fortress Press, 2000).

Download or read book The Brahan Seer written by Alex Sutherland and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Brahan Seer is a legendary figure known throughout Scotland and the Scottish Diaspora and indeed anywhere there is an interest in looking into the future. This book traces the legend of the Seer between the sixteenth and twenty-first centuries. It considers the seer figure in relation to aspects of Scottish Highland culture and society that shaped its development during this period. These include the practice and prosecution of witchcraft, the reporting and scientific investigation of instances of second sight, and the perennial belief in and use of prophecy as a means of predicting events. In so doing the book provides a set of historicised contexts for understanding the genesis of the legend and how it changed over time through a synthesis of historical events, oral tradition, folklore and literary Romanticism. It makes a contribution to the debates not only about witchcraft, second sight and prophecy but also about the relationship between 'popular' and 'elite' culture in Scotland. By taking the Brahan Seer as a case study it argues that 'popular' culture is not antithetical to 'elite' culture but rather in constant (and complex) interaction with it.

Book excerpt: This edited collection addresses the role of ritual representations and religion in the epic poems of the Flavian period (69-96 CE): Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica, Silius Italicus' Punica, Statius' Thebaid, and the unfinished Achilleid. Drawing on various modern studies on religion and ritual, and the relationship between literature and religion in the Greco-Roman world, it explores how we can interpret the poets' use of the relationship between gods and humans, cults and rituals, religious activities, and the role of the seer / prophet and his identification with poetry. Divided into three major sections, the volume includes essays on the most important religious activities (prophecy or augury, prayers and hymns) and the relationship between religion and political power under the Flavian emperors. It also addresses specific episodes in Flavian epic which focus on religious activities associated with the dead and the Underworld, such as purification, necromancy, katabasis, suicide, and burial. It finally explores the role of gender in ritual and religion.
