In 1757 the congregation moved to town, Carlisle by that time having been laid out and made the county-seat, and had projected the stone meeting house on the Square which, when completed some years later, became the home of the congregation, and has continued so ever since. In 1827 a chapel was added, which was replaced by the pres ent chapel in 1873, erected as a memorial to church union.
