Book Regards chr tiens sur l Islam

Download or read book Regards chr tiens sur l Islam written by Louis Gardet and published by Desclée de Brouwer. This book was released on 1986 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Aspect de la foi de l Islam written by Jacques Berque and published by Publications des Facultés universitaires Saint-Louis. This book was released on 1985 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Muslims and Christians Face to Face

Download or read book Muslims and Christians Face to Face written by Kate Zebiri and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Crusades to the present day, the interrelationship between Islam and Christianity has been fraught with conflict, both theological and military. Yet events in 20th-century history, particularly the communications revolution, have meant that, after centuries of living in isolation from each other, Christians and Muslims find themselves participating in the same intellectual culture, and are having to review their assumptions about each other. In this work, Zebiri analyzes modern Muslim writings on Christianity and Christian writings on Islam to explore the issues central to Muslim-Christian relations. The literature surveyed is diverse - both popular and scholarly, varying in function, authorship and intended audience. Through its juxtaposition of the mutual perceptions of Muslims and Christians, the book provides an overview of the more important contrasts and similarities between the two religions.

Book Christology in Dialogue with Muslims

Download or read book Christology in Dialogue with Muslims written by I. Mark Beaumont and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes Christian presentations of Christ for Muslims in the most creative period of Christian-Muslim dialogue, the first half of the ninth and the second half of the twentieth century. In these two historical moments, Christians made a serious effort to present their faith in Christ in terms that take into account Muslim perceptions of him, with a view to bridging the gap between Muslim and Christian convictions produced by Muslim rejection of Christ's divine sonship and the death of Christ by crucifixion. A comparative study is made of the contributions of three apologists from the early ninth century--Abu Qurra, Abu Ra'ita, and 'Ammar al-Basri--and three twentieth-century apologists--Kenneth Cragg, John Hick and Hans Kung--in order to seek a model for dialogue on Christology between Christians and Muslims in the twenty-first century.

Download or read book Christian de Cherg written by Christian Salenson and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Angels occupy a significant space in contemporary popular spirituality. Yet, today more than ever, the belief in the existence of intermediary spirits between the human and divine realms needs to be evangelized and Christianized. Angels and Demons offers a detailed synthesis of the givens of the Christian tradition concerning the angels and demons, as systematized in its essential principles by St. Thomas Aquinas. Certainly, the doctrine of angels and demons is not at the heart of Christian faith, but its place is far from negligible. On the one hand, as part of faith seeking understanding, angelology has been and can continue to be a source of enrichment for philosophy. Thus, reflection on the ontological constitution of the angel, on the modes of angelic knowledge, and on the nature of the sin of Satan can engage and shed light on the most fundamental areas of metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. On the other hand, angelology, insofar as it is inseparable from the ensemble of the Christian mystery (from the doctrine of creation to the Christian understanding of the spiritual life), can be envisioned from an original and fruitful perspective."--Provided by publisher.

Book Interroger l Islam

Download or read book Interroger l Islam written by Abbé Guy Pagès and published by Editions DMM. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. » (Ecclesia in Europa, n°57). S'y confronter ?

Book The Sufi and the Friar

Download or read book The Sufi and the Friar written by Minlib Dallh and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the spiritual encounter between a twentieth-century Dominican friar and an eleventh-century Afghani Sufi master. This book explores the profound spiritual encounter between Serge de Beaurecueil (1917–2005), a twentieth-century French Dominican friar and Christian mystic, and the eleventh-century ?anbal? Sufi master Khw?ja ‘Abdull?h An??r? of Her?t (1006–1089). De Beaurecueil lived much of his Christian discipleship in Cairo and Afghanistan, where he became the foremost expert on the life and thought of An??r?. His mystical conversation and scholarly engagement with An??r?, his experience of Islamic hospitality, and the transformation of his own practical spirituality or praxis mystica through his experience of dwelling in the abode of Islam provide us with not only a magnificent and luminous meditation on the hidden and abiding presence of God among Muslims but also a contemplation on the quandary of genuine engagement with and openness to the religious other. “To place a French Dominican friar who died in 2005 and a Sufi who died in 1089 in juxtaposition in the same book is not the most obvious path in comparative religious scholarship. Yet Dallh has not only done precisely that, but he has also produced a brilliant monograph in the process which makes for a fascinating read. Dallh’s work exhibits painstaking scholarship which illuminates two notable figures in Christianity and Islam respectively and makes an original contribution to the study of these two great faith traditions.” — Ian Richard Netton, author of Islam, Christianity and Tradition: A Comparative Exploration

Book Wal yah in the F imid Ism l Tradition

Download or read book Wal yah in the F imid Ism l Tradition written by Elizabeth R. Alexandrin and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the relationship between revelation and reason in medieval Islamic intellectual history. In this original study, Elizabeth R. Alexandrin examines the complex relationships that can be inscribed between medieval Ismā'īlī thought as an intellectual tradition with a devotional practice of reliance on the imām, and as a politico-esoteric system that redefined governance during the Fāṭimid caliphate in the eleventh century. Alexandrin's work is a departure from recent Western scholarship that focuses on similarities among early Islamic traditions. She argues instead that, under the guidance of the Fāṭimid Ismā'īlī chief missionary al-Mu'ayyad fī al-Dīn al-Shīrāzī (d. 1078 CE), the concept of walāyah (divine guidance) became closely associated with religio-political authority, on the one hand, and the perfection of the individual human being, on the other. By signaling and affirming how the Fāṭimid caliph-imām's were the heirs of walāyah and by proposing new definitions of the "seal of God's friends" (khātim al-awliyā' Allāh), al- Mu'ayyad broadened the contexts of making esoteric knowledge public and shifted the apocalyptic frameworks of Islamic messianism.

Book Towards Reconciliation

  • Author : Paul Gifford
  • Publisher : James Clarke & Company

Download or read book Towards Reconciliation written by Paul Gifford and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2020-03-26 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do humans sacralise the causes for which they fight? Who will decipher for us the enigma of 'sacred violence'? Paul Gifford shows that the culture theorist and fundamental anthropologist Rene Girard has in fact decoded the obscurely 'foundational' complicity between violence and the sacred, showing why it is everybody's problem and the Problem of Everybody. Rene Girard's mimetic theory, especially his neglected writings on biblical texts, can be read as an anthropological argument continuous with Darwin, shedding formidable new light to a vast array of dark and knotted things: from the functioning of the world's oldest temple to today's terrorist violence, from the Cross of Christ to the Good Friday Agreement, such insights illuminate superbly ('from below') the ways of creation, revelation, redemption - which is to say, ultimately, the Christian enterprise and vocation of Reconciliation. Here is a novel and exciting resource for scanning the hidden 'sacrificial' logic that still secretly shapes cultural, social, and political life today. Girard puts us ahead of the game in the key dialogues required if we are to avoid autogenerated apocalypses of human violence in the world of tomorrow.

Book Islam and Christianity

Download or read book Islam and Christianity written by Jean Jacques Waardenburg and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of studying past and present relationships between Islam and Christianity as well as between Muslims and Christians of different persuasions has now become generally recognized. The present volume of scholarly studies focusses on changes which have occurred in these relationships during the last forty years. The papers examine new Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox views of Islam and a broad variety of views of Christianity held by Muslims from India, Iran, North Africa, and the Near East, including some "fundamentalist" authors in Egypt and Lebanon. The book contains a moving testimony from a Muslim intellectual in Sarajevo written during the siege of the city. Nearly all contributions were discussed at the Cret Berard (Switzerland) symposium in April 1995.
