Book Piercing the Veil

Download or read book Piercing the Veil written by Lawrence J. Daniel and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-28 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an exciting time. Technology and the internet are allowing information to be shared and accessed in absolutely unprecedented ways, enabling a revolution of both thought and experience within the human condition. As a result, increasing numbers are becoming unwilling to accept the worldviews put forth by religion, government, even the mainstream media, and are searching for ways of understanding the world based on hard data and direct experience. Piercing the Veil takes a fresh and objective approach to exploring the fundamental questions of reality, primarily through candid examinations of both cutting edge science and altered states of consciousness. The first of the book's three sections examines the most notable psychedelics, expounding upon their experiential properties, cultural impacts, and potential for both positive and negative use. Next comes an in-depth yet highly approachable look at more unassisted methods of consciousness exploration, including such modalities as meditation, channeling, energy work, out-of-body experiences, and lucid dreaming. Finally, we shift simultaneously to more scientific and philosophic motifs, delving into quantum physics, the nature of consciousness, the universe/multiverse, and the death experience. Piercing the Veil paints a vivid and compelling picture showing that the limited spectrum of consciousness we're usually aware of is part of a continuum of energy and life extending well beyond the physical world. In fact, consciousness itself appears to be the bedrock from which our reality blossoms. Piercing the Veil provides the requisite framework for confirming this invaluable knowledge firsthand. The rest is up to you.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than three decades, Margaret Wilson's essays on early modern philosophy have influenced scholarly debate. Many are considered classics in the field and remain as important today as they were when they were first published. Until now, however, they have never been available in book form and some have been particularly difficult to find. This collection not only provides access to nearly all of Wilson's most significant work, but also demonstrates the continuity of her thought over time. These essays show that Wilson possesses a keen intelligence, coupled with a fearlessness in tackling the work of early modern philosophers as well as the writing of modern commentators. Many of the pieces collected here respond to philosophical issues of continuing importance. The thirty-one essays gathered here deal with some of the best known early philosophers, including Descartes, Leibniz, Locke, Spinoza, and Berkeley. As this collection shows, Wilson is a demanding critic. She repeatedly asks whether the philosophers' arguments were adequate to the problems they were trying to solve and whether these arguments remain compelling today. She is not afraid to engage in complex argument but, at the same time, her own writing remains clear and fresh. Ideas and Mechanism is an essential collection of work by one of the leading scholars of our era. Originally published in 1999. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Book Piercing the Corporate Veil in Latin American Jurisprudence

Download or read book Piercing the Corporate Veil in Latin American Jurisprudence written by Jose Maria Lezcano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comparative law study exploring the piercing of the corporate veil in Latin America within the context of the Anglo-American method. The piercing of the corporate veil is a remedy applied, in exceptional circumstances, to prevent and punish an inappropriate use of the corporate personality. The application of this remedy and the issues it involves has been widely researched in Anglo-American jurisdictions and, until recently, little attention has been given to this subject in Latin America. This region has been through internal political conflicts that undermined economic development. However, rise of democratic governments has created the political stability necessary for investment and economic development meaning that the corporate personality is now more commonly used in Latin America. Consequently, corporate personality issues have become a subject of study in this region. Drawing on case studies from Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, Piercing the Corporate Veil in Latin American Jurisprudence examines the ingenuity of Latin American jurisdictions to deal with corporate personality issues and compares this method with the Anglo-American framework. Focusing in particular on the influence of two key factors- legal tradition and the uniqueness of each legal system- the author highlights both similarities and differences in the way in which the piercing of the corporate veil is applied in Latin American and Anglo-American jurisdictions. This book will be of great interest to scholars of company and comparative law, and business studies in general.

Book Tamar Ross Constructing Faith

Download or read book Tamar Ross Constructing Faith written by Hava Tirosh-Samuelson and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tamar Ross is Professor of Jewish Philosophy (Emerita) at Bar-Ilan University. She has written extensively on the Musar movement, the thought of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, the ideology of Mitnagedism, and the relationship of Orthodoxy and feminism. Conversant with classical rabbinic sources and analytic philosophy, she champions the notion of cumulative revelation in pursuit of a non-foundationalist notion of truth, both religious and scientific. Responding to the feminist critique, she articulates an original and constructive Jewish theology sympathetic to the later stages of Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language and to complementary motifs in Jewish mysticism. Her philosophy of halakha similarly builds on post-positivist legal theory, demonstrating the transformative influence of women's direct input on a legal system previously managed exclusively by men.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domesticating the Invisible examines how postwar notions of form developed in response to newly perceived environmental threats, in turn inspiring artists to model plastic composition on natural systems often invisible to the human eye. Melissa S. Ragain focuses on the history of art education in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to understand how an environmental approach to form inspired new art programs at Harvard and MIT. As they embraced scientistic theories of composition, these institutions also cultivated young artists as environmental agents who could influence urban design and contribute to an ecologically sensitive public sphere. Ragain combines institutional and intellectual histories to map how the emergency of environmental crisis altered foundational modernist assumptions about form, transforming questions about aesthetic judgment into questions about an ethical relationship to the environment.
