Book Performance Analysis of Computer Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Computer Networks written by Matthew N.O. Sadiku and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers performance analysis of computer networks, and begins by providing the necessary background in probability theory, random variables, and stochastic processes. Queuing theory and simulation are introduced as the major tools analysts have access to. It presents performance analysis on local, metropolitan, and wide area networks, as well as on wireless networks. It concludes with a brief introduction to self-similarity. Designed for a one-semester course for senior-year undergraduates and graduate engineering students, it may also serve as a fingertip reference for engineers developing communication networks, managers involved in systems planning, and researchers and instructors of computer communication networks.

Book High Capacity Local and Metropolitan Area Networks

Download or read book High Capacity Local and Metropolitan Area Networks written by Guy Pujolle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of this workshop was to review and discuss the state of the art and the latest advances· in the area of 1-10 Gbit/s throughput for local and metropolitan area networks. The first generation of local area networks had throughputs in the range 1-20 Mbit/s. Well-known examples of this first generation networks are the Ethernet and the Token Ring. The second generation of networks allowed throughputs in the range 100-200 Mbit/s. Representatives of this generation are the FDDI double ring and the DQDB (IEEE 802.6) networks. The third generation networks will have throughputs in the range 1-10 Gbit/s. The rapid development and deployment of fiber optics worldwide, as well as the projected emergence of a market for broadband services, have given rise to the development of broadband ISDN standards. Currently, the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) appears to be a viable solution to broadband networks. The possibility of all-optical networks in the future is being examined. This would allow the tapping of approximately 50 terahertz or so available in the lightwave range of the frequency spectrum. It is envisaged that using such a high-speed network it will be feasible to distribute high-quality video to the home, to carry out rapid retrieval of radiological and other scientific images, and to enable multi-media conferencing between various parties.

Book Performance Analysis of Telecommunications and Local Area Networks

Download or read book Performance Analysis of Telecommunications and Local Area Networks written by Wah Chun Chan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-17 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance Analysis of Telecommunications and Local Area Networks presents information on teletraffic engineering, with emphasis on modeling techniques, queuing theory, and performance analysis for the public-switched telephone network and computer communication networks. Coverage includes twisted pair cables and coaxial cables, subscriber loops, multistage network switching, modeling techniques for traffic flow and service time, random access networks, and much more. End-of-chapter problems with solutions are also included. Performance Analysis of Telecommunications and Local Area Networks is also a useful reference for practicing engineers but is intended as a textbook in advanced- level courses.

Book Metropolitan Area Networks

Download or read book Metropolitan Area Networks written by Matthew N.O. Sadiku and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-12-27 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand for communication networks has increased dramatically in the last few years, creating a need for an intermediate network that operates over a metropolitan area at comparatively high data rates with simple protocols. With some characteristics of local area networks and wide area networks, the metropolitan area network (MAN) technology reflects the best features of both. The motivations for MAN technology include o interconnection of LANs o high-speed services o integrated services. MANs can be used in the following areas: LAN interconnection Filetransfer Distributed processing Remote services Remote login Metropolitan Area Networks provides an introduction to the key concepts of MANs in an easily understood style. Organized into five chapters, this unique book acts as an excellent reference for a beginner as well as for the veteran in the field. Topics include: Introductory and background information about MANs Interworking devices, MAN topologies, and key issues Various popular protocols proposed for MANs Modeling and performance analysis of common MAN topologies Emerging MAN-related technologies such as BISDN, ATM networks, frame relay, cell relay, SONET, and SMDS For a broad understanding of this expanding subject, Metropolitan Area Networks serves as the singular standard in the field.

Book Design and Analysis of a Metropolitan Area Network

Download or read book Design and Analysis of a Metropolitan Area Network written by Laith Kadhim and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerned with design of a suitable packet switching MAN to interconnect twenty-six locations (nodes) with each other with high survivability and compare it with the circuit- switching network in term of throughput. These nodes have one or several Local Area Networks (LANs) connected to each node. Two network topologies have been proposed and designed. The first one has the minimum requirements design and used as a reference with which the second design will be compared to fined the performance difference. The second topology represents the final proposal. The two routing algorithms namely, (Link State Algorithm and Distance Vector Algorithm) have been studied and applied on the two proposal networks. The performances of these topologies have been analyzed through calculating many parameters under fault free and failure situations. Then these parameters have been compared. The parameters considered are: average link utilization factor, average node utilization factor, network reliability, delay time, network costs and network connectivity. These parameters have been calculated under shortest distance path routing strategy.
