Download or read book Oral Health related Quality of Life written by Marita Rohr Inglehart and published by Quintessence Publishing (IL). This book was released on 2002 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Helping patients achieve an optimal quality of life through patient-centered treatment planning should be the ultimate goal of all oral health care providers. However, this issue extends beyond the realm of the individual clinician's office. This text presents quality-of-life research from various fields, including psychology, public health, and general health care; discusses how a patient-centered approach can be applied to basic oral and craniofacial research, clinical dental practice, community dental health issues, and dental education; and addresses how oral health-related quality of life relates to treating and understanding different patient populations, such as children with special needs, medically compromised patients, patients with oral cancer, and patients with chronic facial pain. Also discussed is how factors such as race/ethnicity, gender, and age can affect oral health-related quality-of-life concerns and treatment strategies. Finally, the book offers an outlook on the role that oral health-related quality of life will play in future research and dental education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Americans believe that people who lack health insurance somehow get the care they really need. Care Without Coverage examines the real consequences for adults who lack health insurance. The study presents findings in the areas of prevention and screening, cancer, chronic illness, hospital-based care, and general health status. The committee looked at the consequences of being uninsured for people suffering from cancer, diabetes, HIV infection and AIDS, heart and kidney disease, mental illness, traumatic injuries, and heart attacks. It focused on the roughly 30 million-one in seven-working-age Americans without health insurance. This group does not include the population over 65 that is covered by Medicare or the nearly 10 million children who are uninsured in this country. The main findings of the report are that working-age Americans without health insurance are more likely to receive too little medical care and receive it too late; be sicker and die sooner; and receive poorer care when they are in the hospital, even for acute situations like a motor vehicle crash.

This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 948 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and related conditions cause more than 40 percent of all deaths globally, and their substantial burden is rising, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Their burden extends well beyond health effects to include significant economic and societal consequences. Most of these conditions are related, share risk factors, and have common control measures at the clinical, population, and policy levels. Lives can be extended and improved when these diseases are prevented, detected, and managed. This volume summarizes current knowledge and presents evidence-based interventions that are effective, cost-effective, and scalable in LMICs.

Book excerpt: Oral diseases not only affect the teeth and oral cavity but can also influence the well-being, self-esteem and overall quality of life of the individuals. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is a relatively new but rapidly growing notion. The concept of OHRQoL is particularly significant tool to understand and shape not only the state of clinical practice of dentistry, dental research, and dental education, but also that of the community at large. OHRQoL has an obvious role in clinical dentistry which translates into the clinicians' recognition that they do not treat teeth and gums, but human beings.

This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Medicine - Dentistry, grade: A, Teerthanker Mahaveer University (Teerthanker Mahaveer University), course: MDS, language: English, abstract: It is important to understand how a very common prevalent condition of tooth wear (TW) impacts a person’s day-to-day oral health. An emerging concept of measuring the parameter of oral healthrelated quality of life (OHRQoL), which evidently impacts the daily living of a person, makes it practical to examine the correlation between TW and OHRQoL. For measuring the OHRQoL, we can apply various methods, and the most effective is the use of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) questionnaire. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to assess the correlation between TW and the OHRQoL among adult patients attending a dental college and hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional research was performed on patients who visited the outpatient department of Teerthanker Mahaveer Dental College and Research Centre, Moradabad, India. Initially, the sociodemographic details of patients, including their oral hygiene and dietary habits, were recorded. This step was followed by the assessment of TW using the Smith and Knight TW index. Then, the translated version of the OHIP questionnaire was filled up, in which the patients were asked to rate each question on a Likert scale, with five points ranging from 0 to 4, where 0 = never, 1 = hardly ever, 2 =occasionally, 3 = fairly often, and 4 = very often.

Abstract: Abstract of thesis entitled Oral health-related quality of life after stroke Submitted by Zhu Haiwei for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Hong Kong in November 2006 This thesis reports the results of a prospective, longitudinal study on the impacts of stroke on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), functional status and oral health condition in stroke sufferers at three time points: during the acute stroke phase, on hospital discharge after rehabilitation and six months after hospital discharge. Of 150 stroke sufferers initially recruited, 81 of them completed assessments at each of the three time points. Eighty-one elderly people without stroke were recruited as a comparison group. OHRQoL were investigated using the Medical Outcomes Short Form 12 (SF-12) measure, the General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) and an oral health transition scale (OHTS). Functional status was assessed by the modified Barthel Index (BI). Oral health condition was assessed by verified clinical and laboratory techniques and measures. Significant improvements were observed in median SF-12 physical component summary scores (PCS) and GOHAI scores over time (PThe use of proxy measurements in the assessment of OHRQoL after stroke was investigated among 121 stroke patients and caregiver (CG) pairs during the acute stroke period and 65 pairs at six months after hospital discharge. Stroke sufferers and CGs were interviewed independently employing the GOHAI and SF-12 measures. CGs reported lower SF-12 mental component summary scores (MCS) on both occasions (P0.05). At the individual level, agreement was substantial to excellent during acute stroke (ICC 0.69-0.86), fair to moderate at six months after hospital discharge (ICC 0.28-0.60) and substantial in relation to changes which occurred (ICC 0.56-0.67). Changes in oral carriage of yeasts and coliforms in 56 stroke sufferers over time were investigated. Candida albicans was the predominant yeast isolated and Klebsiella pneumoniae the most prevalent coliform. The oral carriage of yeast was highest during the acute stroke phase and progressively reduced over time (PStroke had a prolonged adverse impact on OHRQoL, oral heath condition and functional status although some improvements occurr
