Book Design Guide for Predicting Nonlinear Random Response Including Snap Through of Buckled Plates

Download or read book Design Guide for Predicting Nonlinear Random Response Including Snap Through of Buckled Plates written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This design guide describes a method for predicting the random response of flat and curved plates which is based on theoretical analyses and experimental results. The plate curvature can be due to postbuckling, in-plane mechanical or thermal stresses. Based on a single mode formula, root mean square values of the strain response to broadband excitation are evaluated for different static buckled configurations using the equivalent linearization technique. The effects on the overall strain response due to instability motion of snap-through are included. Panel parameters include clamped and simply-supported boundaries, aspect ratio, thickness and length. Analytical results are compared with experimental results from tests with 12 in. x 15 in. aluminum plates under thermal loading in a progressive wave facility. Comparisons are also made with results from tests with a 2 in. x 15 in. x 0.032 in. aluminum beam under base mechanical excitation. The comparisons help to assess the accuracy of the theory and the conditions under which deviations from the theory due to effects of imperfection and higher modes are significant. Book The Maximum Response of Rectangular Plates to Random Excitation

Download or read book The Maximum Response of Rectangular Plates to Random Excitation written by Richard L. Barnoski and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers empirical solutions to the first-passage or single-highest-peak (SHP) problem for a distributed elastic structure with rectangular geometry subjected to both stationary and a specific form of nonstationary random excitation. The structure is a flat, homogeneous, uniform, square plate and the applied stationary excitation is white noise perfectly correlated in both space and time. The nonstationary excitation is a rectangular noise burst with a unity correlation in both space and time. The structure and the excitation are simulated electrically and peak response data are collected for: (1) simply supported boundary conditions at all edges, and (2) rigidly clamped boundary conditions at all edges. These response data are used to establish probability curves yielding an estimate of the probability that the maximum response, for a finite time interval, remains below a preselected threshold level.

Book Nonlinear Buckled States of Rectangular Plates

Download or read book Nonlinear Buckled States of Rectangular Plates written by George H. Knightly and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A constructive method is developed to establish the existence of buckled states of a thin, flat elastic plate that is rectangular in shape, simply supported along its edges, and subjected to a constant compressive thrust applied normal to its two short edges. Under the assumption that the stress function and the deformation of the plate are described by the nonlinear von Karman equation, the approach used yields information regarding not only the number of buckled states near an eigenvalue of the linearized problem, but also the continuous dependence of such states on the load parameter and the possible selection of that buckled state preferred by the plate.
