Book New Advances in Kidney Transplantation

Download or read book New Advances in Kidney Transplantation written by Eytan Mor and published by Mdpi AG. This book was released on 2022-12-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue in renal transplantation covers a variety of clinical and research areas in kidney transplantation. The recent decade is associated with an ongoing shortage of organs for transplantation with efforts to increase the organ pool with DCDs and extended criteria donors. However, with the increasing success rate of kidney transplants, there is also a growth in the candidate list because of removal of the age barrier and transplantation of high risk patients with other comorbidities. The future seems promising with the development of innovative non-invasive technologies introducing biomarkers for diagnosis of rejection and ischemic reperfusion injury, use of cell therapy for tolerance induction, development of artificial organs, and overcoming immune and non-immune barriers in xenotransplantation. This Special Issue will touch some of these topics that are in the frontiers of the modern era of kidney transplantation.

Book Recent Advances in Renal Transplantation

Download or read book Recent Advances in Renal Transplantation written by Joe Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-17 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The organ transplant of a kidney into a patient having end-stage renal disease is known as renal or kidney transplantation. Diabetes mellitus, malignant hypertension, infections, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and polycystic kidney disease are some of the common disorders which often lead to end-stage renal disease. In case of renal transplantation, the donor and the recipient should be ABO blood group and crossmatch (human leukocyte antigen -- HLA) compatible. The renal transplantation surgery usually takes around three hours. The transplanted donor kidney is placed in the lower abdomen and its blood vessels are then connected to the arteries and veins in the recipient's body. Renal transplantation is an upcoming field of medicine that has undergone rapid development over the past few decades. It strives to provide a fair idea about this discipline and to help develop a better understanding of the latest advances within this field. The book is appropriate for students seeking detailed information in this area as well as for doctors and experts.

Book Current Status of Clinical Organ Transplantation

Download or read book Current Status of Clinical Organ Transplantation written by G.M. Abouna and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MICHAEL F.A. WOODRUFF Emeritus Professor of Surgery, University of Edinburgh This book grew out of a very successful conference on Organ Transplantation held in Kuwait in December 1982. The material presented at the conference has been expanded and brought up to date, and the result is a well written and authoritative account of many aspects of organ transplantation by a distinguished team of contributors drawn from many countries. A unique feature of the book is the account it contains of the development of organ transplantation in the Middle East. Although, as yet, it has been virtually impossible in Islamic countries to take organs after death for use as transplants, it is beginning to look as if this situation may change. Meanwhile, using living volunteer donors and a small number of cadaveric organs sent from other countries, transplant teams in Kuwait and Turkey are obtaining results with kidney transplants which are as good, in terms of both transplant survival and patient survival, as those reported from acknowledged centres of excellence in the United States, Europe and other countries where organ transplantation has been established for many years.
