Book Early Christian Muslim Debate on the Unity of God

Download or read book Early Christian Muslim Debate on the Unity of God written by Sara Leila Husseini and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early Christian-Muslim Debate on the Unity of God examines the writings of three of the earliest known Christian theologians to write comprehensive theological works in Arabic. Theodore Abū Qurra, Abū Rā’iṭa and ‘Ammār al-Baṣrī provide valuable insight into early Christian-Muslim debate shortly after the rise of the Islamic empire. Through close examination of their writings on the doctrine of the Trinity, Sara Husseini demonstrates the creativity of these theologians, who make use of language, style and argumentation characteristic of Islamic theological thought (kalām), in order to help articulate their long-established religious truths. Husseini offers close analysis of the authors individually and comparatively, exploring their engagement with Islamic theology and their role in this fascinating period.

Download or read book The Common Sense Muslim written by Zaynab Abdullah and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-01-06 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Commonsense Muslim: Treatises on Islamic Justice, Muslim Unity, and the State of Islamic Affairs in the West postulates the rise and fall of human civilizations, which occurs when Islamic monotheism is present or absent. A society’s level of morality predicts the cycles of human advancement or decline. When human nature and the prophetic systems align or misalign, civilizations rise and fall. The impetus for this collection of essays is to draw a correlation between Muslim unity, Islamic monotheism, Islamic State sovereignty, and the increase or decrease of morality in human rights affairs, especially as it is relevant to enjoining the good, forbidding the evil—justice and injustice. The treatise calls to warn Muslims that unity is key to solve the prevailing oppression currently afflicting humanity worldwide.

Book The Idea of the Muslim World

Download or read book The Idea of the Muslim World written by Cemil Aydin and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-04-24 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Superb... A tour de force.” —Ebrahim Moosa “Provocative... Aydin ranges over the centuries to show the relative novelty of the idea of a Muslim world and the relentless efforts to exploit that idea for political ends.” —Washington Post When President Obama visited Cairo to address Muslims worldwide, he followed in the footsteps of countless politicians who have taken the existence of a unified global Muslim community for granted. But as Cemil Aydin explains in this provocative history, it is a misconception to think that the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims constitute a single entity. How did this belief arise, and why is it so widespread? The Idea of the Muslim World considers its origins and reveals the consequences of its enduring allure. “Much of today’s media commentary traces current trouble in the Middle East back to the emergence of ‘artificial’ nation states after the fall of the Ottoman Empire... According to this narrative...today’s unrest is simply a belated product of that mistake. The Idea of the Muslim World is a bracing rebuke to such simplistic conclusions.” —Times Literary Supplement “It is here that Aydin’s book proves so valuable: by revealing how the racial, civilizational, and political biases that emerged in the nineteenth century shape contemporary visions of the Muslim world.” —Foreign Affairs

Book excerpt: One of the greatest threats to Islam is not only the divergence created by differences between the various denominations, but also discrepancies within each denomination. How different strains of Islam can come together, in the process bettering themselves and the communities at large, is the theme of this book. Tallal Alie Turfe, who work has been published in several languages, points the way for Muslims to regain their original path by recapturing the Islamic dream of unity that motivated the Prophet Mohammad. Turfe argues for a grassroots activism that begins with the individual and expands into the family and the community. The author brings a wealth of experience to his argument, including work as a management consultant for Fortune 500 companies seeking a global presence, and his leadership role in the Greater Detroit Interfaith Round Table, helping to build bridges between various religious faiths and ethnic groups.

Book Jinnah

Download or read book Jinnah written by Ian Bryant Wells and published by Seagull Books. This book was released on 2006 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the development of Jinnah ́s relationship with India ́s Muslims from his entry into politics until 1934. It shows that a dominant view of Jinnah - that he was an ambassador of Hindu Muslim unity in the 1920s who became a communalist in the 1940s - is far from the truth. The book argues that the "two Jinnahs" approach over-simplifies the trajectory of a complex and evolving political thinker and strategist. The primary changes in Jinnah ́s politics were the strategies he employed to achieve his goals rather than the goals themselves. Amongst the many aspects of Jinnah ́s political thought and career analysed here are his "elitism" and distance from mass politics, his relations with Gandhi, Motilal and Jawaharlal Nehru, Willingdon, Ramsay MacDonald and Irwin, his attitude to the Rowlatt Act, the Khilafat movement and non-cooperation, and his troubled and complex relations with other nationalist Muslim leaders.

Book Unity and Diversity in Contemporary Muslim Thought

Download or read book Unity and Diversity in Contemporary Muslim Thought written by Abbas Poya and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together ten articles on contemporary Muslim thought written by authors from Europe and the Middle East, who are specialized in the fields of Islamic theology, Islamic studies and Political Sciences. The scope of the contributions is limited by two aspects: each contribution focuses either on the thought of a contemporaneous Muslim theologian, whose creative period came after 1950 or on a Muslim stream that is relevant today. Second, the contributions also consider the interdependence between theological debates and the larger context in which they take place. The issues addressed here are diverse in nature and the approaches adopted are various, but they are united in giving testimony to the continuing existence of plurality in Muslim theology. This volume will be especially useful for students and scholars of Islamic theology, Islamic studies, and contemporary Muslim thought, as well as the history of ideas.

Book Bridging the Divide Between Immigrant and African American Muslims by Utilizing the Concept of Tawheed as the Catalyst

Download or read book Bridging the Divide Between Immigrant and African American Muslims by Utilizing the Concept of Tawheed as the Catalyst written by Dr. Salahuddin Mustafa Muhammad and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Islamic community boasts of being one united community. Its cornerstone belief is Tawheed (Oneness of G-d). Its fundamental principle is the Unity of G-d, and this speaks to the unity of humanity. Yet when you look at the Islamic community over its almost fifteen century history; racism, prejudice, bias, and discrimination have continued to prevail. I argue that the Islamic community has suffered fragmentation, as a result of this artificial divide. Therefore, the one united community has been more of an ideal than reality. I contend that really understanding the concept of Tawheed is the true answer--the bridge--as it were--to overcoming this artificial divide, the divide that separates the immigrant Muslim from the African American Muslim.
